So, uh, I have an observation and technical complaint on the recent shooting of national guardsmen, the AUMF 2001, and superposition/schrödinger's terror cat/paradoxes.
The AUMF 2001 is still in effect, it was never repealed or rescinded. So we're still at war with terrorism, the supporters of terrorism, people who might do future terrorism etc etc. At this point you may see where I'm going and I'm sorry you don't, the ultimate destination is more batshit.
The guardsmen are active service, armed members of the military deployed on a mission. So they are, technically, valid military targets for people we're at war with. Which is, technically, the shooter since he did a terrorism... but also not because the shooter targeted active, armed soldiers that were a part of a country actively at war with possible future terrorists, of which the shooter both is and isn't based on their methods and targets?
So there's a weird superposition and/or paradox there, and I want to lodge a complaint about that, but the real observation is that this is likely one of the cleanest engagements in the history of the war on terror? No weddings or funerals were bombed, no teenage kid got shot in the street playing soccer, no civilians near the drone strike target, there was no weird tomahawk-based ritual body dismemberment. Just, one guy, one gun, two or three armed targets, and I guess the bus stop glass?
Also, this guy is weirdly one of the only people ever captured who legitimately, legally could be held at gitmo as an enemy combatant, despite probably not seeing himself as an enemy combatant, because of the wording of AUMF 2021 and the deployment status of his victims.
What a fucking country this is. I think this is where I'm supposed to say "The Aristocrats!"
