The hunter/jumper world has finally embarrassed me enough that I feel like I need to say something about it. I am completely appalled that a rider was abled to compete in and win the USEF Talent Search Finals East while another horse of her’s failed USEF’s GABA drug test and her mother and trainer admitted that the horse had been routinely administered 9 tubes of calming paste. I think this just really goes to show how much quieting there is in the horse show world and it makes me sick because nobody is caring about the horses anymore- it’s turned into something all about money and power. To me, anyone who puts money and ribbons before horses doesn’t deserve anything.. Let’s all remember that these horse’s didn’t sign up for the horse shows, we do! And if drugging them up is the only way you can do well, then maybe they need a different job or need more time before they’re ready. This also goes to show you what a sham the equitation finals are… They’re no longer about the equitation, the riding, or even the horsemanship. I am just disgusted. Maybe it’s not my place to say anything, but that’s exactly the problem! If all of us just stay quiet and don’t say anything, then criminals are able to fly under the radar and get away with these things! It’s time to take some responsibility and stop trying to shift the blame…
If you would like to read an article detailing more about the drug test incident, here’s the link: http://www.chronofhorse.com/article/sunshine-false-fairytales-calming
Why does nobody care about this ?!
This is incredibly important; I’m frankly so disapointed they allowed her to continue to compete, it’s disgusting. What does this say to other riders? It’s okay to drug up a horse if you’ve got another string of them and can have it brushed under the rug? I’m so disapointed that ribbons and titles have come before the horses and their well being. The Equitation and hunter rings specifically seem to have drifted in some cases very far and dangerously away from what they used to be….
Me and @unity-01 were talking about this the other night! Honestly we felt like we couldn’t take it to tumblr because we would get shit, but you took the words right out of my mouth. I cannot believe that she was allowed to keep her win. It is appalling and it made me question the integrity of our sport. How is it people are allowed to get away with this? I’m really disappointed and hope that this is reevaluated by USEF.
Also think about the influence this has. I know so many girls who look up to Tori. Three girls at my barn used to have her as their screen savers on their phones. what kind of message does that send? That it’s okay to drug our horse if it means we can win?
I have been educated by @excellentequestrian. I’m embarrassed to be apart of these disciplines because of her. Smh hopefully we can get back on track.
