Waiting? STILL Hopeful? How Long Should We Wait?
Do you hope for something you really want yet doubtful?
HOPE. A 4-letter word that is as powerful as the word F-A-I-T-H. It is difficult to HOPE when you cannot see the light most specially if we don’t know how long should we wait. Or if we really are waiting for something? That is why we need to have a discerning heart to always see God in every circumstance in our lives. Be careful with spiritual blindness in the process.
“To be spiritually blind is not to see Christ, and not to see Christ is not to see God (Colossians 1:15-16; 2 Corinthians 4:6).”
I just want to share another answered prayer in my life. The Lord never fail to reveal Himself to me many times. And He did it again. I can’t help but marvel to God for His Faithfulness.
I just recently migrated in Brisbane, Australia last 13 May 2017. As a migrant, you need job security. So my job hunt begins.
Also, It was a struggle for me to go to mass everyday as some churches in suburbs do not celebrate everyday masses, not to mention the timing of the public transport (for a starter) going to Church. But God is amazing as He always leads me to His Home. God does not let His Faithful servants abandoned in the wilderness. He will send angels to guide us to His path so we can have the gift of the Holy Eucharist.
When you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, remember this from Isaiah 42:16: “And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them.”
It was my 30th day in Brissy, I already asked God for the reason why He has not given me yet the job according to His will. And he answered me:
After that, series of job interviews came. While waiting for the results, I continue my fasting and prayer. During the mass, God spoke to me:
He said: “40 Days” my child. And officially, it was my 40th day in Brisbane when I received a call for a job offer. Praise God! Such an amazing God we have!
In Deuteronomy, I reflected: What is the condition of my heart while waiting? am I patiently waiting? am I faithful to Him by keeping my prayer and fasting even though I don’t know how long should I wait?
Waiting. This is the hardest part. But while waiting, what are we doing before our most awaited answered prayer came?
I have a list of “long wait” in my life but in the end, I got my answered prayers! Of course! God is Faithful. The generosity of God is beyond our human understanding. After almost 15 years of praying for a partner, He gave me God’s best! (yes, I have a list of heartaches as well before my Dearest came). Trust me, its worth the wait! After “10 years” of fervently praying for Australia, I am finally here! I am living my dream, pips! But of course, It is a long wait. Yet, I have a hopeful heart. Why shouldn’t I? I have a powerful God!
Whatever you are undergoing right now, or if you are already disheartened, the Lord said from Psalm 55:22: Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.
I just want to say, do not lose hope. As God said from Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
God is hope. continue praying. I am definitely sure, it is worth the wait! Sometimes, it may take 5 years, 10 years, 15 years… but the question is, are you willing to wait? Can you still keep that expectant faith? Why not? God’s timing is always perfect! Always is, Always will be!
WHAT TO DO IN CAIRO, EGYPT (and fall in Love with the Pyramids of GIZA and its being an “Organized Chaos” City)
Cairo, being the heart of Egypt, is one of the must see cities all over the world not only because of the Pyramids of Giza most specially the Pyramid of Cheops, the Great Sphinx but also the Egyptian Museum! It is like ‘time travel’ during ancient times. You will be engulfed in the richness of the culture and history of Egypt. Your jaw will really drop when you see a real mummy: Royal Mummies! Everything that you've learned in your History books come alive in front of you especially the Pharaohs!
We stayed in Le Meridien Pyramids Hotel and Spa overlooking the pyramid. Every hotel all over Egypt has their mandatory security check upon entering so you will really feel safe. Also in every airport, there is mandatory removal of shoes for machine scanning (so try to wear shoes that are easy to remove and to put in).
But first things first, breakfast! The International Breakfast Buffet of Le Meridien is soooo satisfying!
I love their Fresh Pita Bread that reminds me of Manna from Heaven :)
1. A MUST to go inside the Great Pyramid of Giza
PYRAMIDS of Giza are built for 2 reasons: Firstly, to solve the unemployment rate that time. Secondly, as tombs most specially for Pharaohs. Cheops is the first to sort out the unemployment rate during his reign by building the pyramid. The Great Pyramid of Giza is known as Pyramid of Cheops. It is the largest pyramid ever built in Egypt. It is 760 ft square, and the sides diverge from the average length only by a maximum of 4 1.4 in.
Giza has a total of 6 Pyramids. The Three Main Pyramids are tombs for Cheops, his son (Khafre) and grandson (Menkaura).
Pyramids are made of limestone.
Pyramid up-close: limestones piled and arranged in a triangle shape.
The positively superhuman monumentality of the great pyramids has not only impressed posterity ever since classical antiquity but has repeatedly raised the questions of their functions and the way which they were built.
Curious on how the pyramid looks inside?
You must be physically prepared to climb inside the Great Pyramid as it requires strength, stamina and endurance to squat while walking, duck walk as the walkway and staircases are narrow.
Inside the pyramid is dark and hot due to lack of ventilation and because of "exercise" upon reaching to the top: The burial chamber, measuring 33 x 17 ft and was built enitrely of red granite.
Imagine how do Egyptians build this? It is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Only in Egypt. One of a kind :)
2. Camel ride for 30 minutes in all the Pyramids of Giza :)
Camel can last in the desert for 10 days.
How beautiful camel’s hump is! Strong creature that can endure heat, cold, hunger, thirst for several days...
3. Great Sphinx
The figure of the Great Sphinx was worked from a rocky outcrop. The colossal sculpture (240 x 65 1/2 ft; 73.5 x 20 cm) of Chepren faces east, and show the classic combination of the body of a recumbent lion with the pharaoh’s head. the ruler wears the striped nemes headcloth, and has a uraeus worn flat on his forehead.
Kissing the Great Sphinx? Oh Yes!
Urban legend said the Sphinx’s nose was broken by an Egyptian or Alexander the Great. But that’s only a theory.
4. Forget the present and travel back in time in Egyptian Museum
The National Egyptian Museum, which today contains the largest and the most important of all collections of Egyptian antiquities, with well over 150,000 objects.
Embalming Table explained by our Egyptologist Hannah
Coffins and Sarcophagus
One of the exhibits in the Museum are Tutankhamun and all his treasures found in the tomb at the Valley of the Kings!
As early as 6 years old, He became the youngest Pharaoh who ruled Egypt.
Did you say Gold?
Pure Alabaster Jar
Too bad you can’t take pictures in the Royal Mummies :(
Inside the Royal Mummies is mesmerizing! Actual Mummies of Ramesses I, II, III and many others. Seeing the hair, skull, nails, teeth intact is beyond amazing.
5. TRY Egyptian foods :)
I thought i cannot eat them but surprisingly, I love it :)
The authentic Egyptian Restaurant is truly recommended!
6. Hanging Church
The Hanging Church is also referred to as the Suspended Church or Al-Moallaqa. It is a Coptic Orthodox Church dedicated to Virgin Mary. It is also called the Church of the Virgin Mary.
It is called the Hanging Church because it was built on the southern gate of the Roman Fortress. Logs of palm trees and layers of stones were constructed above the ruins of the Roman fortress to be used as a fundament. The Hanging Church is a unique church and has a wooden roof in the shape of Noah’s ark.
Entrance Leading to the Hanging Church
Enchanting!
Icons are fitted into the upper part of this screen, showing Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary, the archangels, Michael and Gabriel, and Sts. Peter, Paul, and John the Baptist.
Before you reach the church, you will see a lot of beautiful buildings with history revealing itself...
JUST A FEW TIPS TO TAKE NOTE OF.
a. Don't buy souvenirs in Cairo if you’re also going to other places in Egypt such as Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Aswan, Luxor and other provinces of Egypt because it is definitely more expensive in Cairo by 2x and 3x. Beware of the hasslers telling you that they are selling you the items in 1 usd when in fact they will corner you to get more money as they target tourists. Use your charm in bargaining. It works! Be a wise buyer. (Dahab is the best place to buy precious stones such as Sapphire, Amethyst, Jade etc.; Aswan for Oils and Essences.) b. Tipping is a must in Cairo. Although its optional but majority are asking you tips upfront even the cleaners in the toilets who will hand-over the tissue when in fact it is for free. It is a polite way of saying you enjoyed someone’s service by tipping. Break your money in lower notes like 5, 10, 20 LE (Egyptian Pound) so you would not overspend in Tipping alone. c. Also, bring extra money in USD or EUROS unless you want to use your Debit Card/Credit Card for shopping (I noticed that the exchange rate is better actually in using a bank card). They only recognize few currencies in the money changer. Just bring extra USD or Euros for convenience in order not to have so much excess Egyptian Pounds when you go back home. By the way, they accept USD as payment but i think their conversion from USD to LE (Egyptian Pound) is lower. The best Payment is in Egyptian Pound when you are buying stuffs.
d. Governmental Shops recognized by Ministry of Tourism are ubiquitous. Better buy there, a little bit expensive but they offer quality and for safety and authenticity when you buy papyrus paper and arts, cartouche, gold, silver, pure oils/essenses (such as Eucalyptus oil, Musk oils), stones (which are actually cheaper in Dahab). Ask help from your guide if they are selling you a good price.
e. Traffic in CAIRO is madness. Its unpredictable. You can be stucked in traffic for 3 hours. So give about 2-3 hours travel time allowance going to the airport just to make sure you can make it to your flight. Driving in Cairo is truly for professional drivers because there are no traffic rules which the local termed as “ORGANIZED CHAOS”.
Other than the TIPS to PONDER, the experience in Cairo is priceless and incomparable.
You should include this in your bucket list. Not only it is included in the 7 wonders of the world but what you will see here, you’ll never find elsewhere. I can assure you! ONLY IN EGYPT
FYI: all our tours for Egypt are arranged by Memphis Tour including hotel accommodations, domestic air tickets, and private tour with Egyptologist.
It is best to avail tour guide for travelling around Egypt for safety purposes. Our Tour guides are free lancer Egyptologist who really studied the history of Egypt and explain what the inscriptions on the wall means, terminologies such as Sarcophagus, Scarabs, how the temples were built, Pharaohs and many others. I believe that in order to better understand the rich history and culture of Egypt, you must have a wonderful and knowledgeable tour guide just like what we have from Memphis Tours.
CAIRO, for me, is a destination worth seeing.

This has been the site of Entertainment and Rebellion, Victories and Massacres.
Serpentine Column
The Walled Obelisk
2. Obelisk
The Obelisk of Theodosius (Turkish: Dikilitaş) is the Ancient Egyptian obelisk of Pharaoh Thutmosis III re-erected in the Hippodrome of Constantinople (known today as At Meydanı or Sultanahmet Meydanı) by the Roman emperor Theodosius I in the 4th century AD.
When you look closer... it shows amazing history. The other pair is in Luxor, Egypt.
3. German Fountain
The German Empire gift to the Ottomans: the Alman Çeşmesi. The fountain was a gift from Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany to commemorate his visit to Istanbul in 1901.
4. Hagia Sophia/Aya Sofya
Sophia means Wisdom in Greek Language. When we translate the full name of Hagia Sophia to English it is Shrine of The Holy of God.
It was a Greek Orthodox Christian patriarchal basilica (church), later an imperial mosque, and now a museum.
If you find Hagia Sophia breathtaking outside, it is much more spectacular inside!
5. Topkaki Palace
Topkaki Palace has Fourth Courtyards. It is not actually a single building but a complex of individual buildings set out on a large garden. It was the centre of imperial administration as well as the residence of sultan and his wives. It also housed the Chamber of Sacred Relics, which was regularly maintained and repaired. Also, many state officials continued to live in this palace.
There is a security check in every courtyard entrance.
INSIDE is amazing!!!
At Topkaki Palace you will see the overlooking Bosphorus.
There are cafes and restaurant inside in case you need to grab a bite.
...and we are ready for our free LUNCH!
Beef Kebab, for me, is delightful!
with matching desserts!
After lunch, We proceed to Hagia Sofia
6. Blue Mosque
Also known as Sultan Ahmet Mosque, composed of blue tiles which is exactly 21,043, each of which is priceless.
Inside is breathtaking...
The free guided tour is simply amazing. Knowing the rich history and culture of Turkey, particularly in Istanbul, I can attest that it is a must see city on your European Tour :). All the sights are breathtaking with what all your naked eye can see. We went during mid-winter which is February 17, 2017 and has the perfect weather for walking tour.
Its just perfect to sit and enjoy the cold breeze on a sunny day!
I Commend Turkish Airlines for a wonderful service!
“Happy Those Who Mourn: They Shall Be Comforted”
Who would have thought that a tragedy can turn into something greater... A blessing!
It was 2015 when I wanted to runaway from the world and prayed that God take me to heaven because the pain here on earth is unbearable: I had my heart broken, I got really sick (and its thyroid cancer), then my family (specially my parents, elder brother) got sick as well. Not only that, Adelaide closed when I am applying for PR (It has been my dream for 10 years). I Felt shattered. There is no words that can perfectly described the feeling that I had. I hit the rock bottom. Little did I know that God is working on with my character. This is God’s way of regaining my soul.
Out of my brokenness, I prayed and prayed and prayed even if I didn’t understand it way back then. I just only told God: “Lord, I may lose everything here on earth even my life, but I can’t lose You. If I did, my soul will die. You are my Hope when everything seems hopeless.” Then God whispered: “...because the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastens everyone He accepts as His son." (Hebrew 12:6). God must really have a big sense of humor. And then I told God, “You must have loved me so much to train me like this.”
Have you ever felt like this? Almost giving up, lost, broken, hopeless or as what Blessed Mother Teresa described “such terrible darkness as if everything was dead.”
I DID. There is more. When my Ophthalmologist told me: “You have Fook’s disease. 20 or 30 years from now, there is a possibility that you will get blind.” But this time, it didn’t shake me, instead I told God “Lord, let me treasure the times I can see, to witness the beauty of life and Your creations, so that I can cherish it in my heart forever.” Out of all these challenges, I still pray. But I also experience spiritual dryness along the way. There is one time I am in the church that i can only pray these words: “Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.” Every time I uttered these words, i cried. What did I do to overcome this dark nights in my life? Being a cancer survivor, believing in love once again by discerning for my true vocation, and holding on to God’s promise that He will never abandon us.
1.PRAYER
No matter how you feel, pray UNCEASINGLY. I tried my best to go to church everyday to ask for God’s grace. And it works every time. Ask God everything. And you will be surprised how He will answer your prayers. I prayed for the impossible because He makes impossible, possible (Matthew 19:26). I even prayed for miracles and He has His own way of doing it in each of our lives. I prayed that He gives me money for my Lasik Surgery, and He did. I prayed for money for my migration, and He did. His providence is beyond comprehension. I pray for everything even patience, humility, purity and expectant faith. Make Prayer like breathing. Pray most specially for Wisdom. Just like what Proverbs 3:5-6 said: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Always pray for God’s will in every decision that you make.
Don’t forget to pray for others too. When you pray for others, you become selfless. Prayer purifies one’s soul.
Get a prayer partner. Pray for each other and make a checklist of all the prayers answered so you can offer a thanksgiving prayer. When you can’t pray, he/she will be your motivation to pray.
2.SCRIPTURES
When you read the Bible, you have an unbeatable weapon to a lonely soul specially in times of temptations. It is how God speaks to us most specially to me. I remember one time when I am discerning for my vocation, He had spoken to me which is already etched in my heart: I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. (Psalm 32:8). After that, I dreamed of my wedding. I even saw myself walking down the aisle with my wedding gown and I saw my future husband. It’s God’s message of telling me to wait patiently because He is working on it.
How about you? Converse with God. The only way to know Someone is through deep conversation. Let God speaks to you. Speak your heart out to God.
3.HOLY EUCHARIST
I am once a compliant believer of going to Church every Sunday as a day of obligation. I didn’t realize the gift that Jesus Christ has been given to us after the Resurrection through the Holy Eucharist.
Saint Maria Goretti during her First Holy Communion when asked by a Priest what is the gift that she desire to receive, she answered: “To receive Jesus again.”
Being one with Jesus in The Holy Eucharist is the best gift that I receive everyday because It doesn’t only give countless graces and blessings but knowing the words of Galatians 2:20 explained my love for being one with Christ: I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
I go to Church every day to receive Jesus again and again in the Holy Eucharist as He does not only sanctify and purify but through the Holy Eucharist, He heals, He forgives,He saves. No amount of earthly gifts can compare to the graces and blessings of being one with Christ. Why not maximize this gift of being One with Christ to taste the heaven here on Earth?
As what Romans 5:20 says: Grace abounds. Yes, I can attest to this through the Holy Eucharist.
4. JOURNALING
I believe everyone can write beautifully if its a personal experience. Put your dreams into writing. Put your prayers into writing. You will be surprised with your prayers 2 years, 5 years from now when you read it again. Write all the blessings/answered prayers. You will never know that you have received countless answered prayers already. It will make you have a grateful heart. Some people have Gratitude/Blessing Notebook wherein they write all the blessings they received and look at it when they feel pessimistic.
5.READ BOOKS/LISTEN TO AUDIO-BOOKS
In my thirst to know God more, I read Spiritual Books most specially if I am searching for answers of the countless questions I uttered to God. I praise God for the gift of technology which provides countless resources in the internet for books and if you are not a bookworm, audio books.
This is where I knew His Mother, Blessed Virgin Mary. My life changed when I read the book entitled 33 Days to Morning Glory which aids in Consecrating yourself to Jesus through Mary.
Through books and audio-books, I came to know little by little the life of the Saints which by their examples, lead us to holiness.
It is where I fathom that “Only a soul that is disciplined through suffering has the possibility of keeping eyes fixed on Christ.”
6.LOVE
For God so love the world that He gave His only Son (John 3:16). Everything evolves on love. Love for God, family, friends, spouse, children, job, music, dancing, acting, etc. Saints even love suffering as a form of sacrifice for the sanctification of souls and atoning our sins.
God commanded us to love Him and our Neighbors most specially the unlovable. I now understood why: Love is the core of living (my life statement). Bloom wherever you are planted (advise from a good friend). Bloom with Love in your heart, and everything else will follow.
Before I end this article, let me share with you my life verse from 1 John 4:18 (NIV): There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
In connection with this verse, He whispered to me: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
I can clearly substantiate, with the Gift of the Holy Spirit, how the Lord comforted me during my sorrows. It is with great Joy that i ponder the words “Happy Those Who Mourn: They Shall Be Comforted” through my God-glorifying experience of “Suffering that turns into Joy” that is rooted in Christ. I don’t fear anything anymore, because I know that in this life time, I have Christ. Indeed, the Lord is our greatest Comforter

Woman, Why Are You Crying?
“Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”
As Mary Magdalene stood outside the tomb crying, her grief had blinded her by not recognizing Jesus. She couldn’t see Him because she didn’t expect to see Him.
This is one of my favorite verses in the bible showing on how compassionate and loving our God is. We might find ourselves in the same situation as Mary Magdalene, crying, in grief, because we felt empty, like the empty tomb, not recognizing the Resurrected Lord is in front of us, comforting us, even asking us “Who/what we are looking for?” When in fact, He is already infront of us, asking us of what we need, what we want, or who we really are looking for to fill our cups to the brim and to experience eternal happiness no one can give.
Who do we really look for in times of trials, loneliness, fear, anxiety, grief, or the worst situation we can never imagine we are in?
We cannot meet Christ until we discover that He is indeed alive, that His tomb is empty. God wants us to empty ourselves, so He can meet us just like how He empty Himself for us, for our salvation.
Mary Magdalene is indeed obedient when the Lord told her “Go instead to my brothers and tell them, I am ascending to my Father, and Your Father, to my God and your God”.
This is indeed a call for us and ask ourselves, are we filled with joy by this good news, and do we share it with others? As well as how God emphasized that we have a Father in Heaven? That He is a God of All, no exemption?
Are we, like Mary Magdalene, will go to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!”
This Gospel is a proof that in every trials, tribulation, and even death, is an opportunity for us to meet God in an unexpected way. Then we will find joy we can never imagine and shout out loud just like Mary Magdalene did: “I have seen the Lord!”. For sure, we will never be the same again :)
The Day I Fall in Love with Japan, again and again...
Japan is the place where you will fall in love again and again because the place itself is spectacular! There is so much to see such as the great sceneries of Mt. Fuji and Cherry Blossoms in full bloom, temples, pagodas, and the thing i enjoyed the most: food! not just simple food, but GREAT food! I will show you some of it.
When you travel in Japan, prepare to be surprised because it is truly a remarkable country with the kindest and most courteous people you will ever meet in the entire planet (and they have 4 seasons!)… Don’t worry, if you get lost because of their complicated train transport system (Tokyo itself has 37 lines), there are a lot of “marshalls” and information counter for you to ask directions or the right train platform to go (specially in Tokyo station and Shinagawa Station, it is very confusing for a first timer like me). After several days, you’ll get use to it.
I travelled in Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka-Mt-Fuji-Tokyo route for 9 days. I only have 5 goals in mind:
Eat great food: sushi, sashimi, tempura, ramen, udon, soba and matcha of all kinds!
To see Mt. Fuji and Chureito Pagoda (which i usually see in travel magazines)
Harry Potter (butter beer) and Dotonbori Foodtrip (takoyaki and Okonomiyaki) in Osaka
Arashimaya Bamboo Forest, Fushimi Inari and Gion in Kyoto.
Kabuki Show in Tokyo.
….and all of these are achieved! Plus so many bonuses!
You don’t need to seek for Cherry Blossoms since it is everywhere, Cherry Blossoms will find you.
Just a simple walkway full of Cherry Blossoms along Sumida River! You will literally walk under Cherry Blossoms!
and did i mention i travel alone? that’s why i was able to do crazy things like this: to lie down on a train station! bucket list checked! I did it in Shimoyoshida station :)
and be fat with my motto: Matcha ice cream everyday!
How to Plan:
I asked www.voyjer.com to help me plan my itinerary. Yukiko, my planner, has been so helpful and she accompanied me to watch Kabuki Show in Tokyo. You can give it a try if in case you have no time to plan or research. Just tell them what you want to see and what you want to eat. They will give you an itinerary that is so “worry-free” since the link of the maps and the directions are there as well. The planners are local in the area where you want to go. I find voyjer very helpful.
What to Bring:
JR Pass. I bought mine in Singapore which cost about 369sgd for 7 days in JTB Travel Saloon in Takashimaya S.C. You cannot buy it in Japan so you have to purchase it in advance. When You arrive at Narita Airport, You have to convert your voucher to JR Pass itself in JR office in order to activate your first day. You can also make reservations on your train for long journey. Always choose the NON-smoking and WINDOW seat. You might be lucky to see Mt. Fuji poppin’ up in your window while you are in shinkansen.
If you are just staying in Tokyo the entire time, don’t buy the JR Pass. But if you are going to Kyoto, Osaka, and many other destinations, buy JR Pass. You will save money on your fare specially on long journey (for example, NEX costs 3600 yen one way).
Pocket Wi-fi.
You can either rent when you arrive in Japan or from your departing Country. I rented mine in SIngapore. You can reserve in advance at Changi Recommends website. Claim it on the day of your departure. It costs about 8sgd per day under promotion price (but usually costs 15sgd per day).
Gadgets
…Such as cameras (go-pro is the best for solo traveller like me), handphone for GPS and google maps, 20,000mah powerbank, and universal adaptor (multiple usb port so you can charge all at once).
Vitamins
Believe it or not, you need it. It will replenish your energy after the whole day of walking and sightseeing. Not to mention the cold weather. I personally like Berocca effervescent tablet. It is my travel energizer.
Good pair of Shoes
This will be your best friend the entire trip. I soooo love Onitsuka Tiger shoes. They are soooo comfortable! I never felt my feet nor my legs hurt even after the whole day of walking endlessly. Choose comfort over fashion. You can also be fashionable with comfort by having good quality shoes. I was blessed with a good weather because it didn’t rain that’s why no need to wear boots. Boots are necessity in snowy areas and rainy season.
How To Go:
Try Japan Airlines because they have promo fare that is the same price with other budget airlines. I went via Scoot from Singapore to Narita Airport Terminal 2 (they have 3 Terminals). I suggest that if you will arrive in Tokyo and leave in Tokyo as well, try Haneda Airport since it is much nearer. If you go via Narita Airport, ride NEX (Narita Express), covered with JR Pass and it is approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours journey to Tokyo. But if you have big luggages and want convenience, they have buses depending on where is your hotel location. The bus stops at some major hotels in Tokyo, but sometimes longer journey with traffic.
Inside NEX
Japan has the most efficient transport system but during rush hours, the train is really full… and you will see most Japanese wearing masks either they are sick or for their prevention against hay fever…
…and bringing with me my luggages going to my hotel. It is important that your hotel is near train station for convenience. Taxi is VERY expensive in Japan. Don’t worry, every train station has escalators, elevator and if you are in a hurry, staircases…
single journey ticket machine (where i buy my ticket not covered by my JR Pass).
HOTELS
If you are planning to go on “Busy Seasons” like Cherry Blossoms in Spring, book 6 months to One Year in Advance because almost all the Best Hotels with good location and cheaper prices are already taken most specially the Traditional Japanese Inns or Ryokan which i really like but no more vacancy. You can also try www.airbnb.com for cheaper alternative. I booked all my hotels in www.booking.com. I find their rate cheaper compare to www.agoda.com. They offer 30- 50% discounts if you are lucky enough to catch it. The earlier, the cheaper the rate, the better location, more options.
I booked in a hotel so i can store my luggage safely when i leave for other cities for several days without worrying. Alternatively, there are big coin lockers in train stations which you can store your luggage but there are maximum days of storage. Some are for 24 hours up to 3 days.
I booked along JR line (to maximize my JR PASS) specifically in Yamanote Line: Hotel My Stay Gotanda Station. It is quite a small room but convenient location since it is literally 2 minutes away from Gotanda Station, you’ll just cross the street. It is 2 stations away from Shinagawa (where you can ride shinkansen train to Kyoto, Osaka and other destinations). I want Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku but it is fully booked. I went during Holy Week Season (March 26-April 3, 2016), and it is quite crowded due to Cherry Blossoms Seasons.
I booked several hotels because of my destinations. I booked at Mitsui Garden Hotel in Shijo, Kyoto (I love their onsen, a public hot spring bath but 15 minutes walk fr JR line); Park Front Hotel at Universal Studios (for my USJ adventure) In Osaka; Hilton Tokyo Bay (which is a Disney Resort Hotel) for my Disneyland and Disneysea adventures; Tokyo Ginza Bay Hotel, a capsule hotel to try for an experience to sleep in a capsule (very clean but less convenient compare to hotels and a bit far from train station approximately 15 minutes walk), and the best hotel i have chosen with a steal price: Mt. Fuji Hotel in lake Yamanaka-ko giving me the best window view fr my room of Mt. Fuji in early morning. They have onsen overlooking Mt. Fuji (how cool is that?) and good breakfast buffet. They have free shuttle from Bus stop to hotel, but check the timing.
There are other good hotels with good location and cheaper prices but because it is considered “busy season”, most of them are taken.
I think the best Locations are in Shinjuku, Shibuya, Tokyo Station, Shinagawa Station for accessibility. You can start searching in that location first. Alternatively, Ginza, Ueno, Ikebukuro, Asakusa is also near touristy areas.
HAPPY EASTER!
Before i start my day, i celebrated my Easter Sunday Mass at Franciscan Chapel Center in Roppongi at 8AM.
Tourists were welcomed and asked to introduced themselves one by one after the Holy Mass.
How To Go in Kyoto from Tokyo
From Tokyo Station or Shinagawa Station, You need to take Shinkansen (bullet train) to Kyoto station.
(The woman wearing pink is ready to clean the train when it arrives. They have limited time and i watched it featured in television before to ensure cleanliness of all shinkansen…)
FYI: car 1-5 are usually for non-reserved seats. when i miss my train, i can still ride without reserved ticket, you just show your JR Pass.
Shinkansen… You can eat inside the train :)
I bought my bento box for my lunch inside shinkansen, to save time. Every train station has foodshop inside or selling bento boxes as well. You can grab and go!

What To see In Kyoto
1. Arashimaya
a. You’re journey in Kyoto wouldn’t be complete without seeing Arashimaya Bamboo Forest. You have to be very early to avoid crowd. I was there around 0730am and its refreshing to walk surrounded by trees in peace and quietness.
b. Sogenchi Garden
while walking along Arashimaya Bamboo Groves, you will come across Sogenchi garden. There is a fee of 500 yen upon entering the garden. Beside it is the Tenryu-ji temple and entrance fee is 100 yen. Don’t worry, the money you pay is worth it.
Inside the garden are different species of Cherry Blossoms from pink to red to white. The garden itself is blissful to see.
It is actually huge and a beautiful landscape awaits.
You can make a wish in the wishing well.
and Kiss Cherry Blossoms...
not once, but twice!
c.Tenryu-ji Temple (temple of the Heavenly Dragon) located at Sagano District of Kyoto.
d. Togetsu-kyo Bridge
It has a venerable history of over 1000 years. It is believed to have been first built in 836, when the priest Dosho (a disciple of Kobo Daishi, founder of the Shingon sect of Buddhism) was conducting construction repair work along Oi River. The name Togetsu means “Crossing Moon” and it is said to have been given by retired Emperor Kameyama, as he observed the moon crossing the sky from east to west.
2. Fushimi Inari Taisha (Nearest station: Inari Station by a local train or JR Fushimi Inari Station which you will walk 10-15 minutes)
I was excited to see Fushimi Inari because I am a fan of Memoirs of a Geisha.
At the purification area near the shrine’s entrance, take one of the ladles provided, fill it with fresh water and rinse both hands. Then transfer some water into your cupped hand, rinse your mouth and spit the water beside the fountain. You are not supposed to transfer the water directly from the ladle into your mouth or swallow the water. You will notice that quite a few visitors skip the mouth rinsing part or the purification ritual altogether.
Shinto Shrine
The famous thousands of vermilion torii gates…
I went during sunset and i believe the colors are more attractive during day time. It is really a work of art. A must see in Kyoto. I suggest to go in an early morning to avoid the large crowd.
3. Gion to spot Geishas
I wasn’t fast enough take a picture of a geisha entering a black taxi. But i observe how graceful and demure they are in every way they move.
I like Gion a lot. as you walk, you will feel the old vibe of Japan specially at night.
along Gion you will see:
a. Marumaya Koen park, in which the oldest cherry blossoms tree is located.
b. Yasaka jinja Shrine
c. Kabuki Theatre
There are sooooo many places to see in Kyoto. But due to my limited time, I choose my top 3 places to visit in Kyoto. You could visit Philosopher’s Walk, Kinkaku-ji Temple, an iconic serene gold colored temple, Ginkaku-ji Temple and the historical wooden castle, Nijo Castle, with lush garden. I have something to look forward to the next time I come in Kyoto.
Where to Eat in Kyoto
Matcha green tea at a local cafe to start my morning rush!
Snacks: Kyoto Arashimaya Sagano Croquette which costs 200 yen. But i tell you, its sooooooooooo melt in your mouth taste, the beef is really soft and tender. I love it!
Matcha Parfait, anyone?
Dinner at Kappo Sakamoto in Gion
The plating is impressive. It is a work of art with a low prices. Isn’t it amazing?
It started with an appetizer of raw octopus and bamboo shoot. I ordered the most delicious sake i have ever tasted in my entire stay in japan: Tamagawa Hitokui-iwa which is made from Gohyakumangoku, most famous rice for making sake. According to a Japanese friend, in order not to get sick or have stomach flu, you should drink sake or hot green tea after eating raw foods in particular.
I was happy observing them preparing food for the costumer.
What To See In Osaka
1. Harry Potter, In Universal Studios Japan
At 0630am, this is the scenario at USJ: a long queue in the entrance to Universal Studios.
There is a time slot for going inside Harry Potter. You need to have a ticket in the Machine near the Harry Potter area. i went morning, i got the 1700-1830H entry time slot. Plus the queue in the Amazing Harry Potter ride is loooooooong. For normal ticket, about 1.5 to 2 hours waiting. But its worth queueing for. The only problem is, everything is in Japanese. But never mind, the ride itself is astonishing.
Don’t miss the famous butter beer. FYI: it is non-alcoholic. I find it sweet. But i bought it just for experience. The Hot butter beer with souvenir mug costs about 1200 yen (i find it a bit expensive…). and there is a long queue (30 mins waiting time).
2. Glico Man
There are so many places to see in Osaka such as the Osaka Castle, Umeda Sky Building, Osaka Aquarium, and many others. I missed it. I love to see Sumiyoshitaisha Shrine famous for its Soribashi Bridge. I will probably see it next time i come in Japan again… and again… I won’t get tired of coming to Japan because it is simply amazing!
Where to Eat in Osaka
Osaka is known for good food. The phrase kuidaore means eat ‘til you drop is practically the city motto. Try going to Dotonbori area, and you’ll go full just by food hopping.
If you happen to see Kuidaore Taro, a clown wearing a red and white striped outfit banging a drum, try the taro pudding, I tell you, one of the best pudding in the world! You shouldn’t miss it. You can only buy it in Osaka specifically in Dotonbori. Too bad you can’t buy in bulk because it has a short expiration date.
TARo Pudding with good packaging
1. Okonomiyaki (meaning cook as you like): savoury pancakes filled with cabbage and your choice of meat, seafood, vegetables and more.
the best place i could recommend is Mizuno. I am willing to queue for this. I heard it is one of the best.
Yes, they are preparing your Okonomiyaki in front of you, and you will eat in that same hot pan :)
2. Tako-yaki: octopus dumpling which is cooked in shape of balls made of batter with a dollop of octopus (tako in Japanese). Kukuru is the best :)
I tell you, it is the best Takoyaki i have ever tasted. very soft and the feeling of “melt-in-your-mouth” taste is heavenly. I have eaten inside along with other Japanese.
3. Fresh Melon Bread with Ice Cream
the bread is soft, tasty. Perfect with vanilla ice cream!
4. Crabs!!!
The restaurant is full until 5pm. Good thing they have food stall outside the restaurant with the same quality.
I think I am in Crab Heaven, Crab soup, Fried Crab and Crab dumpling!
What to See in Mt. Fuji
There are 5 lakes that act as a reflecting pools for the perfect cone view of Mt. Fuji namely: Yamanaka-ko (easternmost lake where i stayed), Kawaguchi-ko, Sai-ko, Shoji-ko and Motosu-ko. Better yet, Kawaguchi-ko is the most accessible, more accommodations to choose from and a variety of activities to do.
Travelling from Yamanaka-ko to Kawaguchi-ko takes about 30 mins to 1 hour by bus.
I was fortunate enough to feel the vibe of snow in my hotel. It feels like Christmas!
I tried cheesecake garden along Lake Kawaguchiko and its one of the best cheesecakes i ever tasted. Too bad it needs refrigeration and with short expiry. If not, i think i will buy a lot.
Kawaguchiko offers interesting activities such as cable car, and cruise along the lake.
After my Kawaguchiko exploration, I went to CHUREITO PAGODA.
going there requires riding a local train. The train is old, but efficient… and train is really classic with manual train operator/driver.
The train arrives seldom usually about after an hour. so when you miss it, you will wait a long time…
Lets go to Chureito Pagoda! You will not get lost because signage are available along the way. You will walk about 20-30 minutes to reach Chureito Pagoda.
It was afternoon and the Mt. Fuji is hiding under the beautiful clouds. If not, This shot will be perfect like the one in the travel magazine!
Breathtaking!!! Going here is worth it!
I did it! I finally saw you :)
By the way, You need to have a lot of strength because you will trek to get here as well as climb an approximately 100 steps to get to the top.
You can sit back, relax, overlooking the astounding view of Mt. Fuji (if you are lucky it is not cloudy).
Truly a dream come true for me!
What To See in Tokyo in a Limited Time in 4 days!

3. Chidorigafuchi koen/garden (nearest station: Kudanshita exit2)
It is not yet in full bloom, but it is already starting!
I was able to play around…
…and take unlimited pictures of Cherry Blossoms. hahaha. i never get tired of taking Photos of it.
4. Yasukuni Shrine (nearest station: Kudanshita station exit1)
I sit down and set my camera to get a sitting shot, I didn’t know it is prohibited to sit down in this area. the policeman (in this picture) after this shot approached me to tell me in Japanese that it is not allowed to sit (wise guess)…
before you reach the shrine itself, there is a long walkway of food shops!
Hanami!
5. Ueno Park has museums, beautiful garden, boat, temples, shrines and zoo, all in one! TIP: This is really a beautiful place to see Cherry Blossoms!
Sakura

Day2: Imperial Palace, Odaiba and Meiji Shrine
5. Imperial Palace and East Garden
Chill and relax under cherry blossoms trees!
love the old edo vibe!
From Imperial Palace and East Garden, I just walk and walk until i reached Maranouchi station which is like a museum.
It is made of concave joints which refers to a tooled joints with a semi-circular cross section. The intersections of vertical and horizontal joints are formed with frog-leg struts (kaerumata)
6. ODAIBA, my Love!
a. Rainbow Bridge and replica of Statue of Liberty
I suggest you chill for sometime with a coffee in the nearby cafe. So you could see the colors of Rainbow bridge after sunset.
along the walkway you will see lots of Cherry blossoms
and tulips!
b. Gundam
c. Mega web
Just be amazed by the buildings… the architecture is surprisingly unique.
10. Meiji-jingu Shrine
Along the road you will see:
Barrels of sake wrapped in straws
Provenance of the buorgogne wine for consecration at meiji-jingu
You can also place your prayer offering here.
Or try Omikuji
My Omikuji is a poem composed in a traditional 31 syllables form by Emperor Meiji or the Empress Shoken.
Day3: Harajyuku-Shibuya
7. Shibuya Crossing
Watch Cross walk from Starbucks.
8. Hachiko
Very easy to find this dog, just take Shibuya station Hachiko exit. Before Shibuya crossing.
This dog is really famous. You have to queue to take a picture with “him”.
9. Takeshita Street
If you want to shop in cheaper prices of Japan make up brands and many others, this is the place! I bought KATE, Sana Newborne and Shiseido here.
I Couldn’t miss eating this Tiramisu Crepe! Surprisingly, it is not too sweet. It is just right. I feel like eating in a soft icecream cone! Crepe is very popular in this place because it is ubiquitous here.
What catches my attention is the fashion of the youngsters here.
Day4: Oshiage, Tokyo
13. Tsukiji Fish Market
How to go: Tsukiji Market is just above Tsukiji Shijo Station on the Oedo Subway Line. Alternatively, it can be reached in a five minute walk from Tsukiji Station on the Hibiya Subway Line. The closest JR station is Shimbashi, from where you can walk to the market in about 15 minutes.
This is the nearest station in my opinion.
FYI: TSUKIJI FISH MARKET IS CLOSING ON 02 NOV 2016 AND MOVING TO A NEW Location: Toyosu, Koto Ward.
You can buy the sharpest knife here.
There are a lot of food “shops” to choose from but the famous of them all is sushidai. Most people queue at 5am and take their turn to eat sushi around 0730 to 8am. I’m not kidding, i gave up my queue because its 3-4 hours of waiting…
14. Kabuki Show
Yuki and I at the box seat. I enjoyed the Kabuki show so much!
15. Asakusa Temple and Nakamise Street
Start from Kaminarimon Gate and it takes a long time to get to Senso-ji temple because many little shops are waiting for you in Nakamise Street.
Long queue (although I didn’t queue since it is the prayer line for Buddhists)
16. Tokyo Skytree
While walking along Sumida River, I was amazed by my walkway which is literally walking under Cherry Blossom Trees!
Tokyo Skytree from afar…
I wouldn’t miss Disneyland and Disneysea to complete my JAPAN experience.
Disneyland
To be kid again in the happiest place to be!
..and Meet Mickey IN Person!
Disneysea
wishing well???
Journey to the ends of the earth
Under the sea!
Mermaid lagoon
nice view!
I really enjoyed Disneysea more than Disneyland.
What To Eat in Tokyo
Kyubey at 7th Floor of Keio Plaza Hotel
my sushi chef
Your sushi made in-front of you.
I am not exaggerating but i tasted mostly all of them. I have no time to take a picture for i ate after my sushi chef prepared it fresh :) From Tamago (egg), Torigai (cockle), Ika (squid), Aji (Horse Mackerel), Anago (sea eel), ebi (prawn), Uni (sea urchin), Ikura (salmon roe) and many others. I find tuna the best! I will go back in Kyubey everytime I am in Tokyo. a bit expensive but worth it! Must try for a sushi lover.
Uni
Ichiran for Tonkotsu Ramen
One of the best ramen i love so much in Tokyo ( I ate in Shibuya branch). No wonder there is a long queue. i waited for half an hour to 45 minutes for this.
my cute cubicle with privacy.
They will ask you on how you want your ramen done. There is really an art in making ramen. Ichiran tops my list.
I love their Matcha Anni Tofu! the best tofu i have ever tasted in the entire planet. I am not kidding. You should try it! and never miss it when you are in Tokyo.
and just near my hotel: Dragonfly
Don’t judge it from the outside since there is a long queue here… and its quite cheap. I have eaten with a Japanese while standing, and some of them can eat the udon in 5 minutes, and go! The machine is entirely in Japanese. i just pick randomly according to the picture.
The best Udon i have ever tasted in my entire trip in Japan
and SOBA in Shinjuku near Keio Plaza Hotel
and lastly, in the airport while waiting for my flight.
simple but tasty Udon with tempura :)
The only thing i bought as a souvenir from Tokyo is this Kokeshi doll! I think I have a new collection ;)
and a newly discovered lipstick!
Restaurants to Try in Tokyo:
You can also try Zauo Shinjyuku, Okonomiyaki Kizi, Gomasoba Takadaya in Odaiba area, Ra-men Santouka in Harajyuku,Kushiage Namaiki in Shibuya, Torinoiru Cafe in Asakusa as suggested by a Japanese Friend for an authentic Japanese dining experience of Ramen, Soda, Udon :)
Restaurants to Try In Kyoto:
For Best Kaiseki, try Gion Karyo, Kiyamachi Sakuragawa, and Kitcho. For Fine Dining Experience, Try Yuzuya Hotel Isshinkyo or Okazaki Tsuruya where royalties usually eat (like Queen Elizabeth II).
Suggested Places to Try:
If you miss having an Onsen (Hot Spring bath) experience in Kyoto or Mt. Fuji, try Oedo Onsen Monogatari in Tokyo! Stay in Traditional Japanese Inn called Ryokan in Kyoto specifically Shiraume Ryokan, or Tawaraya Ryokan where Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman to Harrison Ford have stayed . Take a picture or stay at the famous Nakagin Capsule Tower close to Ginza.
The Ghibli Museum is worth seeing. I just didn’t have enough time to go.
Samurai Lesson, watch a Sumo Wrestling match, Sushi making lesson, and tea ceremony experience (best to try in Kyoto) would be interesting to try if you have ample of time to devote in Tokyo.
If you are interested in Anime (I love to see Cooking Master Boy, Dragon Ball Z and Naruto… I grew up with them), Akihabara is your place to be.
Before i forget, i find their toilet bowl fascinating because it is so high-tech. It has to be closed to retain its warmth (yes, the toilet seat has warmer).
I hope my experience helps you to plan your japan trip. If you have questions, You can message me and i could provide you the link or my exact itinerary. Good luck and God bless!
My next target will be Hokkaido, the Wisteria Tunnel at Kawachi Fuji Garden in Kitakyushu, three islands in Japan’s Seto Inland Sea (Naoshima, Teshima and Inujima specially Miho Museum), Day trip to Hitachi Seaside Park and Ashikaga Flower Park, and if time permits Takeda Castle in Hyogo and Oya Stone Museum in Tochigi. You can give me some tips :)
Sealed with a red lipstick kiss, DONNA
One of the great things to do in Ipoh is explore Oldtown with Ipoh Heritage Trail. It is truly remarkable seeing their rich history in the paintings that are exemplary. I admire Ipoh preserving their culture. A MUST do in Ipoh. Goodluck to finding these 7 old yet uncorrupted images.
Skydiving is the craziest adventure that i tried in my entire life. Scary at first but worth it. You feel fearless afterwards. The bonus: the beauty of the sky because of the clouds, the rays of the sun, the view of the sea and land from above, and the coldness of the wind... what an amazing creation by a Majestic Creator.
Ancient chinese writing in Gua tempurung cave, Ipoh
Caving in Gua Tempurung, Ipoh, Malaysia… yes, pips. Its not just a typical caving but the hardest caving I ever had which involves spelunking, climbing, duck walk, planking in motion, sliding (yup in a rock) and the famous military crawl… bonus: stalactite, stalagmite, diamonds, marbles, crystal clear cold water, and the darkness of the cave. You will appreciate the sun after 3 hours of darkness and physical exercise. need i say more?
