THE FADED NAVY BLUE HAT that chuck can frequently be seen wearing used to belong to herc; it was his old raaf uniform cap, handed over during chuck’s primary school days. he’d been around 7 years old at the time, the age when every boy idolized their father and hailed them as nothing less than a hero. career day rolled around and this time was extra special because herc had actually be able to make it, showing up in his dress blues and putting every other parent to shame. he’d let chuck wear his cap and dog tags during his presentation ( chuck puffed his chest and proudly showed them off the whole time, the smug little shit ) and at the end of the day, when he’d tried to give them back, herc just put the cap back on his head and told him to keep it.

FROM THEN ON, chuck took that hat everywhere. he clung to it when living with his grandmother while his dad was away; wore it through all six months at jaeger academy and toted it from shatterdome after shatterdome throughout the years. it's so worn and faded that the crest has since fallen off ( carefully tucked away in a shoe box under a bed somewhere ) and the cotton is close to falling to pieces each time he touches it, but that doesn’t stop him from wearing it anyway. it’s familiar and comforting, a gentle, unspoken reminder of easier times -- before all the kaiju and secrets took their toll on their relationship. and yeah, maybe chuck will pretend he’s not the sentimental type and maybe in recent years, he'll act like he doesn't remember where he even got the thing, but of course he knows. and more importantly, he knows that his dad knows, even when they haven’t spoken face to face in days. it’s times like those when chuck really relies on the drift -- it’s always easier to share his softer thoughts and emotions when he doesn’t have to worry about finding the right words to say them.

YOUNG JAEGER PILOT HOPEFUL c.huck han.sen absolutely had a becket boys poster on his wall and none of ya'll can tell me otherwise. he revered that poster as much as he did the brothers because at that point, he couldn't look up to his uncle and his relationship with his dad was ... tempestuous at best. he'd just recently graduated from the jaeger academy when he heard about the attack that left yancy dead. it broke his heart, but the sadness was quick to turn to anger as soon as he learned raleigh left the ppdc not long after his recovery. the fact that the best and brightest ranger at their disposal would let a personal tragedy get in the way of helping others ??? that raleigh would rather walk away and damn the world instead of staying to fight for it ??? it was a slap in the face to everything he thought he knew and as soon as he could, chuck tore the damn poster down and stomped on the pieces. tbh it's almost symbolic -- him getting rid of the poster marked the death of the last of his heroes and the birth of the idea that the only person you can truly count on is YOURSELF.

SNUBBULL - because even in a pokemon world, chuck's gotta have his bulldog. despite snubbull’s fierce looking face, it is actually very playful and affectionate. this contrast between looks and attitude make it more of a companion than a real fighter; the perfect friend for a boy who has none.

CUBONE - cubone wears the skull of it’s dead mother. no one has ever seen their true face as they hide under this outward facade and carry her loss with them throughout their life. you don’t gotta be a genius to connect the dots here.

KROKOROK - a middle evolution, cocky but still capable of learning. it’s not quite as intimidating as a krookodile, but it’s doing it’s Best. honestly, it’s a crocodile crook that lives in the desert. that fits the arid, saltie-infested country of australia like a glove.

SHARPEDO - are literally feared and known as ‘ the bullies of the sea ‘. sharpedo are all teeth and rough hide. they know where to bite to inflict the most damage and rely on their thick skin to absorb the damage, proudly bearing their scars as a result.

PANGORO - despite it’s cantankerous and ornery demeanor, pangoro do not tolerate those who pick on the weak. they protect those who cannot protect themselves, even if that means putting themselves directly in the line of fire.

TYRANITAR ( MEGA ) - a powerful pokemon with an insolent nature, it’s armor makes it immune to harm, so it’s very eager to make challenges against perceived enemies. the effects of mega evolution make it even more ferocious than before, to the point where it's unclear whether it can even hear its trainer's orders.
