The sun was dipping low, edging toward the horizon. Another night. Another Hunt. Though the air was different. It was like sparks were floating unseen, waiting to spark one hell of a fire. Edmond kept to the shadows for the time being. His mind was still reeling from his tumultuous arrival. The strange dream-like place, the doll, all of it.

Even stranger still was that the fire he always felt burning within could become manifest by his will. Black flames that seemed more like liquid darkness at times. Even with such new power, Edmond had to be careful. He had learned quickly that the Yharnamites did not take well to foreigners. With how high tension was running, he would rather not get caught out in the open by a group of them.

“Someone there?” he asked, turning his head slightly at a noise in the alleyway. “Show yourself.”

Bloodborne AU

Rough details within.

Edmond Dantes is a man cursed. He comes to Yharnam in search of a cure, something to quell the dark flames within him. Hearing of Yharnam’s seemingly miraculous healing, he sets out for the city to seek aid from the Church.

But such a solution was not to be acquired easily. He arrives on the even of the Hunt and is drawn into the Hunter’s Dream. The black flames burn hot, manifesting within and without his body at his will after becoming a Hunter.

The fires of his endless vengeance shall burn in the night and blood shall run fresh in his search for answers.

He froze upon seeing such a man, or rather his body refused to take another step forward, as if warning him that doing so would mean death. He didn’t know who this man was, but he knew it was a servant, nothing else was answered no matter how much he tried to decipher from the man. Something about him felt wrong… But before he could try to think further on it he spoke, the words shaking what little heart he had left and throwing him from his thoughts. 

“You–!” He silenced himself before continuing, because he knew which of them was right. He was too weak to save Saber, that was something he must now carry with him until his own death. The more he looked at this servant, the more he believed that day may come sooner than he was thinking. 

No. He’d shake off this hesitation, the man asked him a question, it would rude not to answer. Taking a moment to catch himself Shirou took a slow breath, looking the other in the eye as he spoke. “I don’t know. To fight a certain man, maybe. Or to make a deal with another Master. But where I’m going doesn’t matter, I just have to keep moving.”

“If you have no certain destination, then you have no business moving anywhere,” the dark servant spoke.

He moved closer, something like liquid shadows flicking off the outline of his body covered by the cloak. “You the look to your eyes of a man seeking vengeance. Or perhaps seeking something to fulfill your lack of purpose. Your determination wavers even now. There is no foundation, no anchor for your cause. To simply follow your instinct is to be swept up before the storm.”

He stopped a few feet from the youth, leveling his glowing gaze upon him. There was some potential worth to him. Some merit to the strength he put out as having. “Very well,” the dark servant said, “if you would go forward, then I shall judge your worth. I shall drag you through Hell and your will shall be tested.”
