Capturing the Northern Lights and Winter Magic with @stianmklo
To see more of Stianâs photos of the aurora, follow @stianmklo on Instagram.
Norwegian photographer Stian Klo (@stianmklo) does not need to leave his living room to catch a glimpse of the northern lights. Capturing them, however, is a little more complex. âItâs a lot of trial and error and taking chances,â says Stian. Once the right conditions are in place â a solar storm paired with clear skies â Stian goes out in search of his ideal setting. âI compose my shots as regular landscape shots, and the aurora is just the icing on the cake,â he says.
Stian also welcomes the challenge of taking photos when a landscape is transformed by ice and snow. âIt forces the photographer to work the scene,â he explains. âThe compositions are less obvious, and you really have to push boundaries.â
