she’s still in the middle of muttering curses when someone stops in front of her. looking up quickly, her face all but pales. he looks similar to the ollie on her earth, but not as happy, not as settled. “dad,” the word is out of her mouth before she can stop herself, saying it as easy as breathing. she’s not quite sure if he hears it, she said it very quietly, and so she carries on talking. she has no idea if she should tell him. she clearly doesn’t exist on this earth. otherwise he’d recognize her. then again, it’s 2018. she’d only be a toddler. she’d look completely different. “i know, yeah, i know, unsafe, and all that jazz. i’m new ‘round here, didn’t know this was happening.”
he pauses briefly, unsure if he had heard the girl correctly. it had almost sounded like she called him dad. it’s not completely implausible --- a good number of his younger years were mostly just a blur due to alcohol and poor choices, and it wouldn’t be the FIRST time he’d been in a situation like this. yet she continues unphased, so he brushes it off as a misunderstanding. ' well, you definitely picked an exciting time to show up.’ lips press together slightly, almost in amusement, yet their current situation still has him on alert. being out in the open makes him uneasy, but so does the thought of leaving her on her own during this, especially if she didn’t know the area. ‘ even though i haven’t lived here that long myself i feel a bit obligated to speak on behalf of the city so --- it’s not usually this bad. promise.’
