I gotta say I'm obsessed with what Luffy does to the typical "sunshine" character trope, in that he's an exception to the usual portrayal but perhaps the most true to it of anyone. He's not "sunshine" as in pure niceness and sweetness and innocence. He's sunshine as in The Sun.

He's joy and light and warmth, illuminating all the beauty of the world, but he's also powerful enough to kill and blind and burn. He's an everyday annoyance. He's the strongest force of nature that exists. His happiness shines bright for miles. So does his rage. You could look at him wrong and be screwed up for life. You never want to live without him.

I can't get over this.

personally obsessed with the idea that there’s a shitty, pop culture magazine that circulates on the grand line for years, but has more recently wormed its way into the pirate zeitgeist because of their special edition, annual issue of sexiest pirate alive.

the first year it gets big, shanks comes in at the top only to be dethroned by a nineteen year old portgas d. ace twelve months later. it gives shanks a complex. then, trafalgar law sweeps for two years in a row despite refusing to humor this whole spectacle. slutty, bedazzled heart pirates crop tops start becoming popular in port towns.

eustass kid is pissed. trafalgar is a virgin loser. he rigs the voting and threatens the editor. he comes in first the following year, but killer gets more attention from the article because 1.) blonde 2.) masked 3.) dick-skin shredded.

they start implementing a top-five system because of how many letters of complaint the publisher starts to receive — which only makes the dick measuring contest even worse, because now sanji and zoro are tied for #5 and they’re going to kill each other.
