The Reunion
From the beginning of their time together, Grey had an annoying habit of knowing her all too well. Not just her mind, but her body as well. He read her like a Sunday paper, knew her better than she knew herself. Even with the long time of not seeing each other, he still knew her better than she knew herself. She grew up around people who smiled in her face but dragged her name behind her back. Her trust in words was minimal for that reason. Grey was the only person who said it to her face, and a subconscious part of her appreciated his explicit honesty. Maybe it was inevitable for them to come back to each other. He was the other half of her that put every insecure thought and every doubt into retrospective. Nadine needed that. But maybe she didn’t need it in front of all the spectating eyes of their former classmates.
Nadine, for the first time in a long time, couldn’t fathom anything to say. What could she say that wouldn’t be completely lame? ‘I’m sorry’, ‘you’re right’, and ‘i love you too’ weren’t options. The brunette couldn’t do anything but stare into the blue eyes of the man she loved. She wanted him. More than any project, and more than she was willing to admit to him. That professionalism shit she always put up was just a front to keep him away. But, God, was she tired of pushing him away. It was just a natural reflex for her to push people away, she’d done it all her life, but Grey kept coming back. That had to mean something, right? It wasn’t a question whether she would accept his kids or not, of course she would, despite her limited exposure to children. She’d accept everything.
Maybe that’s what she needed to hear. She needed him to tell her that he would never stop loving her, that he’d never give up on her, because those words set her whole being on fire. She was stuck between bursting into tears and crying apologies, and throwing herself at him. By the time he was finished reading her life, everyone around them was staring, waiting to see her reaction, but none of that matter. Nadine did the only thing that made sense at the moment. She licked her lips and took the few steps that closed the distance between them. Rising to her toes, she slid her arms through his suit jacket and pressed a lingering kiss to his lips. Every part of her became aware of how much she truly wanted him, but going full out in front of everyone like they used to wasn’t what she wanted. Nadine pulled away from the kiss, “call your car around,” she whispered, and let her darkening eyes reveal her intentions.
There was much more to say, Grey could talk all night if she wouldn’t get the hint, but it seemed like Nadine did just that. Nadine was quite throughout his entire rant, which pissed him off. Regardless the guy did as he was told. “Fine, but this conversation is not over.” He muttered, pulling out his phone to text his driver. It was funny, considering they just got there. Hadn’t even spent thirty minutes at the reunion before their night ended in full out drama. “Are you not going to talk to me now?” He asked, watching as his car pulled up for them. The driver came out and around, opening the door for them.
