He felt her head move as she looked up at him, looking curious at what he had said. When she questioned him, his mind had already began to put the pieces together. That the core of each emotion that he had came from her, that he was happy to be with her now, to remind her that she was still important to him, how he's grown to care for her, he wanted to tell her this. But as all reveals went, they had to be worded for understanding. But he only bit his tongue. This hesitation, that would not let him stray from the lifestyle he had which kept everything manageable, was what he wanted to be able to get rid of this moment. This boundary felt like it was one sided, because even now he couldn't spit it out. How familiar this felt...
As she said that she understood, his head rose up to see her expression. Her gaze lowering was disheartening, and a feeling of fear came up. Was it what he meant, or something about herself? Just as he put everything together, had he done wrong again? The closer he seemed to getting an answer, the more it seemed like he was incorrect. But Chrome put her hands to his chest, she spoke to the thump of his heart, the core if his fear. Her pause allowed more time for him to assume, until she spoke up. Whispered words that he could only describe as bright red, causing the grey boy to resort back to his state of shock. His hand let go of her head and he could only stare at her, seeing her face getting closer to his. His eyes were wide as she reached up and left a soft kiss on his cheek.
But she backed away with her arms now back to her sides, space between them now. Though she gave a smile, she couldn't seem to be able to say anymore, as if the damage had been done. In an instant, Chrome left around the corner and gone from the silence and the moment they had, and he felt something drop in him. Still, Houtarou could only stand there in the aftermath of her actions. His mind couldn't assess what just happened, until he reached up and touched his cheek. Chrome said that she understood what he meant, and that she loved him. The feelings didn't flutter then, but they submerged him under until he knew he couldn't escape. Oddly enough it didn't smother him, but Houtarou felt the relief as he understood. Instead everything urged him to stop her, to hold her close again, and, his fingers clutching, admit that he loved her. At this point it was useless to avoid coming to that conclusion. It was there and he ignored it and wouldn't say it, and now she left.
So much for a quiet lifestyle. The boy let his hand fall and pulled himself back together to find Chrome. He started around the corner, much quicker than he thought was possible for him, and headed back to the glassed room. It was particularly cold near the doors, and no one sitting appeared to have come from the outside for a while. Since she had run off, he assumed Chrome would try to go where she thought he wouldn't. At first he was hurt from her sudden retreat, but as he thought about it more, it didn't seem like something she wouldn't do. Now that he thought about it, from what she's told him before, she was reluctant to get close to people. Quite possibly, he remembered, with the belief that they'd leave her. I said I wouldn't... Her pained face stuck in his head made it a bitter recollection.
With that much, he opened one of the doors, cringing a bit from the cold air surrounding him, but walked outside and shut the door. Houtarou shivered again and buried his hands in his pockets From here, he wasn't exactly sure which direction to go, and couldn't rush since the ground had several ice patches. He looked up at the sky, seeing the colors mix into a purple as the sun lowered. The pale colors were soothing, this spot a good perspective to look up, covered mostly from the trees and additions of the lodge. Near by, a trail led to a set up stairs, the signs seemed to call it a spot for observing the slopes and the sky.
He ascended up the stairs, taking careful steps all while keeping his eyes fixed at the top of the stairs. At the top, he spotted something at the end of the plateau. Realizing what he was about to go into, he began to feel nervous again. Houtarou took a breath before he called, "Dokuro, I understand!" The cold made his breathing visible, even little more so. He walked closer to her. Without thinking anymore, he reached out and pulled her back to him, an rm around her shoulders and another holding her head back to his chest. The cold didn't hit him now. "I'm sorry I didn't say, but I do understand. And Dokuro, I..." He closed his eyes, keeping himself together, and spoke, "I love you. And I won't leave those whom I love.ā The words fell so calmly that he didnāt think he actually said it. Like he only thought of it and it defied belief that it would become a voice. Houtarou believed it was a mere image again that would turn back to a simple, quiet moment in time.
