With the Moghul Rule coming to an end, patronage to the arts also ended. Meanwhile, many Europeans who followed Vasco Da Gama, found that the wide diversity of the biological life, the historic buildings, the cultures and traditions, the local occupations in India need to be captured so that they can preserve them as souvenirs and show them to their kin and kith. (Photography was not yet invented!) Also, the British found out that indigenous Indian Art lacked linear perspective, light sense (shading) and depiction using water/oil paints. They taught these technical aspects to the local artists so that they can get paintings from them according to their own Western taste. As a result, a new style of Art emerged with a fusion of the local scenes painted in a western perspective. This was called the Company Style (yes, Company meant East India Company). Differing from all the styles till then, Company Style is a kind of its own and has remained unique! My humble contribution on Telugu Wiki about this style of art!!
