The servant approaches — knife-like nose pointed to the sky, lithe arms of pale yellow hidden behind the small of her back. Her posture is graceful, a leg stretching out behind her to hold her balance — the other leg perched forward, toes pointed.  Her are eyes shut as if unfazed by the radiance of the monarch before her. Confident, yet subservient — she was Yellow’s pearl, indeed. A single eye peaking open, an iris of gold settles on Blue Diamond, the small gem’s air of indifference turning to one of respect — As it should.

She speaks, nasally voice cutting through the silence of the Diamond’s chambers. To the point, arrogant and yet, somehow — respectful. The servant addresses Blue Diamond as she should, delicate hands moving to form the Diamond Salute. Despite the servants efforts, the Diamond moves to simply wave her away.

Blue pushes her powers of emotional regulation / happiness on Steven because she knows how it feels to suffer & doesn’t want Steven to have to go through it. Though she doesn’t mention this to Steven directly ( because that would just make him think of his negative feelings more ) Blue will make more ‘happiness clouds’ while he’s around in hoping he’ll get tempted and hop on one, forgetting his worries for a while. 

Blue doesn’t want to bother Steven often because she, herself, is aware of how her tyrannical past has affected Steven. She feels her presence is off-putting but makes an effort to make her visits to Steven as nice & comfortable as possible - offering him gifts & comfort foods in hopes he will associate her with good feelings as opposed to negative ones.

“From what I know there are only these small ones…. Did you bake before?” Yellow was surprisingly calm, then again it was only Yellow and White Diamond that stressed her. Blue had never been too bad, besides making her cry a few times.

A finger moved to pat the hybrid child on the head, Blue offering a small smile.   ❛ While it’s true, your ‘dad’ may be aging, I’m confident he has at least 50 more years until expiry. ❜   She assured herself this would make the child feel better — as BLUNT as it was.

Turning to look around, the monarch ensured there were no PRYING EARS listening in to their conversation. Her pearl could be trusted, of course. And if not, well — that could be DEALT WITH another time.

❛ You only need to be on your best behaviour in front of Yellow & White, ❜   she whispered, a sly smile upon her lips.   ❛ As long as we ensure they are unaware of our plans, we should be able to collect him successfully. I know of your capabilities already, and I think it’s time you met him. ❜

BELLOW DIAMOND HIVE, WE ARE EATING.

Well, I am, because I just rewatched “That Will Be All.”

I think one of my favorite subtle details is that Yellow was apparently actively tracking Blue down in order to bring her back to Homeworld. She can talk and sing all she wants about wanting to get back to some form of productivity and action, but in all reality, she’s just as guilty of setting aside her duties as Blue, simply for the fact that she takes the time and energy to chase Blue. Because, in the end, White was right. Her weakness is Blue Diamond.

When Blue perceived that Yellow is behind her, she quickly wipes away her tears because she knows that admonition is coming, and she doesn’t want Yellow to see.

Every time I listen to “What’s the Use of Feeling Blue?”, I just reflexively, like, dissolve into pieces. My God. I can’t believe they got Patti Lupone.

Yellow tells the Pearls to sing for her to make her feel better, but ultimately, she’s the one who does all the singing because she’s the one who wants to make Blue feel better.

“Yes, of course we still love her, and we’re always thinking of her!” Yellow tenderly grabs Blue’s hands. “Don’t you know I miss her too?” But then, Yellow violently wrenches away and turns away because it’s never easy for her to admit to vulnerability. And this, I think, is one of the cruxes of their relationship. Just on the brink of total communion in their shared grief for Pink, Yellow tears away, unable to confront her feelings, leaving Blue behind. Here, it’s minor. The expression is physical. But, on a macroscopic level, you see it all over the tiny glimpses we get of their relationship—from Yellow insisting that Blue moves on to her impatience at the trial. A gem of action and reaction, Yellow doesn’t look on the inside very often. Indeed, she’s afraid to introspect lest she has to confront the guilt and pain and horror of the last 6,000 years, too.

But Blue knows. And Blue, for the first time in the episode, becomes the one to reach out, to lay a hand on Yellow’s back as the other Diamond gives in to her own pain. It’s a tender moment, fraught with delicacy, before it’s interrupted just as quickly. And the two Diamonds have a chance to compose themselves, to become Diamonds again, before any of their “underlings” can see. There’s something to be said here about how the expectations of the hierarchy restricts everyone from the top down in terms of the fact that neither Blue nor Yellow feel as though they can express themselves freely in front of the gems they conceive to be beneath them. It’s a kind of emotional repression that SU warns about time and time again. If you bottle up all your emotions, one day, they’re just going to explode.

And then finally, when Yellow confirms that the Cluster has not yet emerged, she uses that information to comfort Blue—the Diamond still has enough time to collect humans for the zoo. And the last note we see of them is Yellow bracing her hand on the other’s back as the doors close upon their grieving, lending them privacy.

This episode just really does it for me, y’all.
