Wicked Wonderland review nobody asked for because I'm a loser

Warning spoilers!

These are just opinions. I didn't see any of the og films growing up besides wicked world animated shorts I remember airing on tv. I only saw the movies 1-3 including ROR for the first time in my life a few months ago.

Edit: It turns out that there's also books. I don't remember seeing them advertised or talked about growing up. I never read them. So there maybe some lore I don't know about. Bare with me <3

First of all, the aesthetic slaps. Wicked wonderland was great but I do have issues with it like the other films. I hate that the smee (is that how it's spelled?) twins were idiotic, there for comical relief and just being... there. They could be written to be shy yet loyal and naive no matter who's bad or good like their father in the of Peter Pan or Willie Brothers from Home On The Range. Pink could use more character development and less plot convenience. Hopefully we see more of that and how she came to be in the next film. Also how the hell did Red magically get memories of her and Pink as kids when she time traveled and didn't meet her after the events of the first film? I know it's unlikely but there has to be some crazy ass twist where Maddox is her father. I think that's one of the reasons Bridget/Queen of Hearts let him come back other than "I didn't want to be rude." But hey that's just a headcanon. Nothing should be taken seriously.

I think the story would be fine if Max wasn't there. It's not even hinted in Rise of Red that Maddox is a father. The plot could be like more emotional if Red would want to save Maddox too and not just her mom. If Red knows Maddox well so and they were so close, why would we need Max? Same goes for Luis and Felix. Luis is just there as a love interest. Red doesn't need one and the story doesn't need another love story/triangle like the original films. It feels forced. Felix and Robbie just keep getting deleted from the plot every 5 minutes. Why bring them in if they do nothing than keep getting lost? I don't remember Celia mentioning a brother. (I also wish she didn't replace Freddie. Maybe I'm biased) There's too many characters anyway. If disney wanted to include TPATF again, why not give Tiana a kid? But look what they did to the Tiana show...

Robbie had potential and I was happy to see Disney giving their obscure and newer films a chance, so more points to Luis. Odd that a fox character is human now but maybe I'm questioning too much. I like that red was included in his outfit which may have been a reference to that. I hope he does more later on. I got nothing against Hazel I wish we could see CJ again. It was cool to see Chole as a villain. I have the feeling Red will go back to being a VK again somehow. It would not surprise me if the watch ends up in Ariel's neck of the woods and Melody or adult Uliana find it. Also I wish she was replaced with Ursula or Morgana which would have made more sense and Morgie with Mor du (however it's spelled) or Evil Queen or Jafar. Do people still care about or remember Brave? Cinderella and Bridget are definitely in a queerplatonic relationship. As an aroace person, that was beautiful to see. Dance party ending was whatever. They done it 4 times before already (Mulan started that trend). The movie should've just ended with Red, Pink and Max getting Maddox some mental help but staying behind bars in the meantime. I don't hate dance party endings, I just think they are whatever.

Awkwafina does a decent job voicing Chessy and sounding villainous. Better than her performance as Sisu, but still needs work. However, I think someone else should have voiced the character. Personally I think it's odd they would be a villain when I don't remember the cheshire cat being a bad guy in the og Alice in Wonderland. It's been forever since I've seen the movie and I never read the book so what do I know.

The songs slap but I feel like there's too many or some unnecessary. Not every moment in the movie needs a song. Chole should of went into the future, accidentally taking Red and Max with her when trying to stop her. Then she sees the horrible future she put Auradon in also seeing she hurt her parents in the process. Then regrets it and they go back to the present. Platitude or predictable maybe but way better than singing a fucking song of all things...
