Canonically, most of the female characters in this story are within the spectrum, wellāmostly bisexual. Veronica, Chloe, even Zoey have been presented to either hook up with men or have huge crushes on men. Their āgaynessā doesnāt appear to be performative as can be seen in the Bacchanalia chapter.Ā
A Deep Dive of the Claudine-Maya Revue in the Movie, or why you really ought to read the fine print before signing a contract in tomato juice
So the Revues in Revue Starlight are a lot.
There is just so much packed into a few minutes. The sets! The fighting! The music! Thereās just so much going on that you canāt completely process everything going on at once. And itās absolutely awesome. The Revues look so amazing and feel so epic.
And sure itās a lot, but we still get whatās happening. We saw the build up to each Revue, and we mostly know whatās going on in each of their heads. After all, itās not just the stage that matters in the revues, but also the emotions going into it. For some, theyāre worried about their future as a stage girl, whether or not theyāll be good enough to one day achieve their dreams. And for others, theyāre worried about what graduation will mean for their relationships with each other as they each go on their separate paths. And as much as they try to hide it, these anxieties boil over in their Revues, forcing them to confront their deepest insecurities in front of the very person they tried so hard to hide it from.
But theyāre never alone in these cases, they have their partner. Admittedly this usually doesnāt help at first since the only thing worse than one person catastrophizing over their future is two people catastrophizing over their futures. But still, they all manage to figure it out in the end together.
But Maya and Claudine arenāt insecure about the future. Both of them know that theyāll get into their dream troupe and neither of them seem too bothered about the fact that the two of them will be going their separate ways after High School.
So unlike every other Revue so far, which has been desperate and came from a place of hurt, the Revue of Soul starts off so much more lighthearted. The vibes are completely different from everything that came before in the movie. It feels like Maya and Claudine have nothing left to say to each other, that they are doing this Revue just for fun, itās like a game to them.
But obviously itās not just that, the two of them mean so much to each other! Theyāre just acting otherwise because of their pride, and once the two of them decide to drop all pretenses, they can finally have a proper Revue, where they put everything on the line just to understand each other.
And to see how we got here, Iām going to try to lay out everything going on with Claudine and Maya in the Movie that got us here. This is a part of a series of Deep Dives Iām doing for each of the Movieās Revues, and while you can read this one without reading the others, I may make some references to themes and ideas that I brought up in the earlier Deep Dives, but Iāll do my best to give context if that ever happens.

okay so while i donāt think erlu is the best non-canon lucy ship, sorry anon, i can say that itās wonderful!
lucy absolutely has some sort of crush on erza, that scene where she tells erza that she looks ājust as good without [her] armor!ā is her being gay.
i think they would be good together though! theyāre both like. soft and hard at the same time, and itās in a way that could definitely balance each other out. erza cares but she doesnāt really know how to turn it down, so it comes off as a tough love thing, and i think lucyās set of circumstances leads her to expressing affection in different, āsofterā ways, like how she broke down after the phantom lord arc because she was upset that people got hurt because they cared for her, and how she even cried when she saw that levy was okay.
another thing that i think they could balance each other out with is needing people. lucy doesnāt want to depend on people but has to, and at times you can tell she thinks sheās weak because of it (particularly aquariusā sacrifice scene, but if my memory isnāt failing me there are more) and i think that erza has a tendency to want to be able to depend on people but doesnāt think she should and therefore places all the burdens on herself, which is seen in her actions with the lightning palace in the battle of fairy tail and even with how she lets herself be drained of magic powering the buggy in the lullaby arc instead of letting anyone else handle it. i think they could help each other cope with that and develop towards a more healthy medium.

Natsu
He just wants to bond, tbh
He cares about everyone in his guild, so the first thing he would do is invite you to join it with him!
If you do, or if youāre part of another guild already, heāll bring you missions you guys can work on together
Long ones especially ā the more time the mission takes, the more time youāll be together
While youāre on the mission, he doesnāt leave your side. If youāre staying outside, heāll sleep as close as possible without being creepy. If you get a hotel, you two are sharing a room
Then, when the missionās over, heāll give you the better part of the reward. He just needs food money, really, so he doesnāt mind
Heāll also show off a lot ā making fires when itās cold, fighting tourneys when he can. Heās spent years building up his strength, he wants to make sure you know about it
He will destroy a town for you, so be careful what you say
And once youāre comfortable enough with him, heāll always be touching you
Usually just a casual arm around your shoulder or an excited grabbing of your wrists. This is when he starts to drag you on missions that he thinks youāll enjoy before getting your permission
Which you do, surprisingly, though youāre not sure whether itās the missions themselves or the partner youāve chosen
Lucy
She comes from money, okay?
Sheās had suitors try to woo her before, using very skewed methods ā buying her pretty dresses, shiny jewelry, anything that catches her eye, really; and giving lots ofā¦ gross comments. Especially about her body
What they never did is listen to her
Itās not a mistake sheāll be repeating
Sheāll still buy you stuff ā reasonable stuff like sturdy clothes and good food, so long as she has the money
But sheāll also justā¦ be a friend. Sheāll listen to whatever you have to say and give what advice she can
She also likes to show she cares through missions. Sheāll usually choose the ones with a higher reward so that you two have enough to split
She knows what itās like to struggle financially and itās not something she wants you to ever experience
Another thing sheāll do isā¦ just observe. All your little mannerisms, all the phrases you constantly say, all the things you get excited for, sheāll learn them all by heart. She even starts copying some of the things you do, completely unconsciously
When she sees how excited you get when she does copy you, sheāll pay even more attention than before. Then, when youāre alone, sheāll just randomly list off every little thing she loves about you
It makes your heart beat faster the more you listen
Erza
Sheās super awkward when she first catches feelings
She doesnāt want to approach you too quickly and scare you off; she knows she can be overbearing sometimes
So the next best thing is toā¦ ignore you?? She freezes up whenever she sees you and runs the other way
It takes a lot of convincing from Gray that she should confront her feelings (the fking hypocrite) When sheās done that, she calms down enough to realize, hey, youāre just a person, just like her
So she obviously buys the greatest sweets she can find and brings them to you. She even enlists the help of Wendy to make some for you
Theyāre absolutely adorable, and as long as you donāt pay attention the mountain of burnt cookies in her kitchen, youāll never know the struggles she went through to make them
Speaking of struggles, sheās actually pretty strong. Did you know that?
She wants to show off, so sheāll tag along or invite you to take some S-class missions with her. Itāll be a unique experience, she promises, thatāll leave the two of you alone together for an extended period of time
She is a bit more level-headed than Natsu, but sheās also extremely strong. She will also destroy a town for you, it just wonāt be on purpose. Oops.
Likes to take monster-slaying missions and bring you the souvenirs she gathers. Remember that giant tusk from her introduction? Yeah, expect some of those at your doorstep
Sheāll even dress them up for you and tell you where theyād look the best. Thereās something so domestic about it, once you think about it, and you could get used to her bringing more of her stuff to your home
Gray
Ah, Gray. The tsundere extraordinaire
He wonāt change his behavior all that much, tbh, except for adopting his āCool Guyā persona again
Heāll try to appear like heās not as hot-headed as his friends. Itās so uncool to lose your temper like that
It never works for him, lol. He always ends up joining whatever fight that flamebrain started
He will blush once he realizes his clothes have disappeared while in your presence. He gets teased a lot when people notice, making the blush worsen. He asks you to keep track of them for him. Itās a sign of trust!
Heāll also make you little trinkets out of ice
Little birds and hearts and flowers, stuff like that. They never melt in his hands, but they do when he hands them off to you. He doesnāt mind, though, he thinks thereās something poetic about it ā such a temporary thing, something that fades the more you hold it, the more you love it
If itās a hot summer day, heāll be your personal air-conditioning! Youāre allowed to just go up and hug him whenever, and sometimes heāll even carry you around piggyback if itās super hot outside
No one else can do it but you. He snaps at the others before they can even try
Most of all, heāll pay attention to you. He doesnāt really mean to, he just canāt help it. Heās another one thatāll start copying the things you do, whether theyāre fitting of his ācool-guyā image or not. He denies it if you ever bring it up
Itās one day, when you suddenly take your top off in public, that you realize heās rubbing off on you, too. Itās actually cute, the way you guys have spent so much time together
