Zarrah had always never been able to cook and decided now was the perfect time to learn. She went to the library and grabbed a âFirst Time Cookersâ book. She went through the book looking for something easy to cook. She flipped the pages and found a picture of a grilled cheese sandwich withâŠ
Griffith grimaced when he heard Zarrah nearly beg him to try her sandwich. He quickly contemplated on turning around and agreeing to her plea or just making a dash down the hallway. But to just leave her would break her heart and make her self esteem plummet. And he couldâve live with the guilt of knowing that he just hurt his friend.
He sighed and turned around as he looked down at Zarrahâs rather haphazardly made sandwich.Â
âOh. SureâŠ.â He muttered as he hesitantly held the sandwich in his hand. He eyed the sandwich and then shut his eyes and bit into it. The taste was decent but the texture of the food was absolutely horrifying. The bread had been burnt so it tasted like he was eating gravel. But nonetheless, he managed to force a smile and swallow the bite, âThatâŠ.wasâŠpretty good, Zar. Nice jobâŠ.â
âAre⊠Are you sure? I had forgot I left it on the stove while watching T.V. so it burnedâŠâ
She rubbed the side of her arm and looked up at Griffith who was forcing a smile on his face.
Tyson came walking down the hallway to come talk to Griffith because they havenât talked in a while. He saw that Griffith was talking with a small girl and was eating a grilled cheese sandwich.
âHey there Griffith, long time no talk.â Tyson waved at him, as he got closer he waved at the small girl and stuck out his hand, âHey there, Iâm Tyson Lynn from District 10. Itâs nice to meet you.â
âOh!â Zarrah perked up as she remembered that name. âYouâre the guy Haystack told me about! Youâre named after uhâŠâ Zarrah crossed her arms and placed her chin in her hand. Her eyes widened as she remembered.
âTyson chicken nuggets!!! Oh yeah I forgot to introduce myself, Iâm Zarrah Sophera from District 11,â Zarrah grabbed the plate that Griffith was holding with the sandwich on it. She took the other half that wasnât bitten and gave it to Tyson. âHey Tyson try this to see if itâs good. Please?â
Tyson hesitantly took the sandwich slice and bit into it. He swallowed with a look of displeasure on his face.
âWas this burnt? What kind of question is that, of course it was burnt. No offense Zarrah but this wasnât the best sandwich Iâve ever tasted. Iâm just giving you my honest opinion of it, if youâre getting ready to cook in the Games you have a longs way to go.â
Tyson was just being truthful, but he couldnât help but feel like he went to far in his words. He examined the slice he had received.
âOh I see, well⊠Well thanks for being honest. I guess Iâll try it again,â Zarrah sighed but then perked up and looked at Griffith and Tyson.
âYou guys should come cook with me! Itâll be fun! Sâil vous plaĂźt?
Griffith had remained silent throughout the brief exchange of greetings his two friends spoke. He sent a resentful look at Tyson for telling Zarrah the truth about her sandwich. Honestly, it was the girlâs first try so he could understand and relate with her about cooking. But still, it wasnât polite to point out the fact it tasted burnt and not particularly the best sandwich ever.
âI donât mind.â He shrugged as he eyed Tyson, âYouâre coming too.â
It wasnât a question, it was a statement. If he was going to watch Zarrah cook for the next few hours and help her out a little, Tyson would have to experience it with him.Â
Tyson looked up from the sandwich at Griffithâ. Well, of course Iâm coming. What kind of person would I be to criticize someoneâs cooking and not help them fix it?â
Tyson looked at Zarrah, âI would love to come cook Zarrah.â He smiled at her.
Zarrah smiled. âOkay then, we should cook something harder then that should be good right? Common!â
Zarrah grabbed both of their hands and pulled then into her dorm. She let go and fast walked to the book, she flipped through the pages.
âWhat about this? Itâs a simple Capitol dessert recipe.â The picture showed a pink cream vanilla substance drizzled with dark chocolate, strawberry slices and whip cream.
"I thought...we'd be making something basic." Griffith fumbled for words, trying not to hurt the girl's feelings, "I mean...like cookies. Or cupcakes, if you're feeling ambitious. But I mean, if you want to make a cake, I'm not going to stop you or anything..."
He awkwardly looked at Tyson and gave him a patronizing look for not trying to help him convince Zarrah that if she tried something as extravagant as that, she'd end up burning the whole dorm down.
