Arrival
That’s what she said- but the still observing Sniper didn’t believe it. He knew the signs. He’d seen them in the mirror every single day. The words you want to get out but can’t and the way it looked when you choked on them.
As the Spy passed him, he’d never wanted to throw him to the ground and strangle him more. But of course, Rico didn’t move. He simply bristles at Alexandre as he smiles that faux charming smile, trails his fingers along Rico’s hip as he walks by, and mutters teasingly in his ear.
"So many distractions ‘ere now, and we’ve ‘ad so little time togezher lately…"
Rico shudders at the implications, and glances back out to the others as Alexandre slips through the door. Doc, comforting Joe. Yiv, reassuring her pup. And Grigori.
Yeah, I see you, ya wanker. You better feel’s guilty as you look, pullin’ this shyte. You didn’t have to. You could’ve plugged the Spook so hard in the face his head would fly a fuckin’ country mile off his shoulders an’ got the kiddos t’ safety. But you didn’t.
An’ now we’re all gonna suffer for it. Wanker.
Grigori stands stoically for a time, his face a mask. Alexandre's motion doesn't go unnoticed, but the giant only furrows his brow at it.
A sense of helplessness rises within him. He wishes he could help matters, but no matter where he would go or what he would do, it would be no good. With the power the Company had, they would follow the lot of them to the ends of the Earth and do even worse to them. It was better, for the time being, to wait. Trimming the leaves off of a weed was no good - you had to pull it out by the roots.
His eyes meet Rico's.
I'm so sorry. I wish there was something more I could do more immediately.
Coming behind Joe, he rests a hand on the Soldier's shoulder.
"Will be alright. We are all together."
