Penance Stare released a new album; Solanaceae. After first listening to this project it really excited me as it reminded me so much Velvet Cacoon and Clair Cassis. This style of drone and ambient black metal is something that I would to explore myself but I can never really get it sounding right. However Penance Stare do it get sounding so great, there’s more variance of style than Velvet Cacoon and it’s an incredibly engaging listen of various electronic and industrial styles within an ambient black metal setting. The project has recently expanded to include a live drummer so future releases should get another level of depth to their tone which is always great!

I’ve been waiting for this to come out for most of September. Since hearing about Mumdance and James of WIFE/Altar Of Plagues coming together to make instrumental and electronic Black Metal I knew it’d be something I’d be into.

Musically it’s infectious with the sound being the same very thick and relentless sounds of Teethed Glory And Injury. However it is far more electronic focussed and brief in comparison. Teethed Glory pushed and sprawled across the it’s different timbres and styles whilst Bliss Signal is very focussed sonically and far more memorable because of it. The larger than life electronics ranging from Trance to Ambient with cutting Black Metal and Post Rock style guitars seething throughout it just creates such a brilliant tapestry of sounds. I can’t wait for the physical LP of this to drop I will not be sleeping on that.

I hope this project stays around for awhile because going on this it has huge potential for creating some incredibly unique music.

My latest release - End Times is now available to download and purchase on tape. Lyrically it is loosely themed around the end of days and The Process Church and musically shrouded in a lofi blackened cacophony on low quality handmade instruments. Check it out on the bandcamp now!

DAMN PEGGY

Noisy and Experimental Hip Hop is getting more popular and it’s really really good, on that note the new JPEGMAFIA album is ridiculous and great.

Started a label. The first release is Kastchei - “Communist Black Metal Madness!” aka the guy I did a split with.

It’s raw, political and noisy, punk black metal only.

FFO: LLN, Raspberry Bulbs, Negative Approach.

I’m writing and recording my own stuff as well, which will probably be the next release if I don’t persuade some other idiot to have me press their music on to cassette.

One of my favourite songs they’ve done, this LP is just a mind blowing listen. The physical record is great with the D-side being 100 groove locked samples, most(maybe all) of which appear on their songs, definitely want to try and do something with it.
