this is one of the greatest jokes this show has ever landed
Right now, the largest and most deadly wildfire in California history is burning. Last year, Hurricane Harvey drowned southeast Texas under punishing, endless rain; a month ago, Hurricane Florence …
The myth that panic, looting, and antisocial behavior increases during the apocalypse (or apocalyptic-like scenarios) is in fact a myth—and has been solidly disproved by multiple scientific studies. The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program, a research group within the United States Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), has produced research that shows over and over again that “disaster victims are assisted first by others in the immediate vicinity and surrounding area and only later by official public safety personnel […] The spontaneous provision of assistance is facilitated by the fact that when crises occur, they take place in the context of ongoing community life and daily routines—that is, they affect not isolated individuals but rather people who are embedded in networks of social relationships.” (Facing Hazards and Disasters: Understanding Human Dimensions, National Academy of Sciences, 2006). Humans do not, under the pressure of an emergency, socially collapse. Rather, they seem to display higher levels of social cohesion, despite what media or government agents might expect…or portray on TV. Humans, after the apocalypse, band together in collectives to help one another—and they do this spontaneously. Disaster response workers call it ‘spontaneous prosocial helping behavior’, and it saves lives.
I’ve been sharing this article a lot recently! I think it’s important

What all ask boxes look like for me (submission boxes look exactly the same):
Left: what happens when I try to open dms (New Message does nothing); I can’t even read them. Right: when I try to go to someone’s dms from their blog.
Neither new things I post nor old things I post show up in the tags they’re in, even if they were before.
I can type things into replies, but it won’t actually post them.
Since it doesn’t seem this one has been encountered by many people yet, maybe reblog this so people know about it. I’m probably getting deleted though
Tumblr is shadowbanning people and they aren’t even trying to be subtle about it.
Please spread the word.
I’m glad this is spreading but simultaneously it makes it sound like the shadowban is much less severe than it is because I didn’t realize, and this shadowban is so severe I can’t even add on / tell anyone that.
All my likes, reblogs, and replies are hidden from the notes of EVERY post.
When I like or rb things it doesn’t show notes in someone’s activity / dash, except long-time followers (not sure about the exact cutoff/conditions).
If I reblogged and added something to this from a non-follower they wouldn’t even know. Check and see: my rb’s don’t even show up in the notes. So people couldn’t even find out I added something on by checking the notes either:
Not to mention: I’m hidden from all searches, can’t be @’d, past @’s of me are hidden from my notes, I don’t get notified when people reply to a post I replied to, my @’s don’t give notes, and every search on my blog is blanked. I can’t even ask/submit to myself even with anons, and lots more.
Oh, yeah, and: MY BLOG ISN’T EVEN MARKED NSFW. Every flagged post I’ve found was restored. But every flagged post you contest brings attention to you that risks you just getting shadowbanned randomly.
THIS is the version that should get spread around…
i’m really over the idea that customers deserve unconditional respect from employees like nah bitch you deserve back the exact amount of respect you enter the store with. you throw a tantrum in public? you deserve to be escorted out in front of everyone and i hope it’s humiliating for you. you try to come in after close and don’t take “we’re closed” as an answer? you deserve to be told to leave and ignored. you insult the people providing services to you? you deserve to be refused service. if you don’t behave like a damn adult with impulse control and basic compassion, no one personally owes you a fucking thing my dude
Fucked up how women are expected to preform femininity to such an unreasonable, expensive and time consuming degree right now. Obviously that’s been an aspect of patriarchy forever but theres a late capitalist spin on it in our current period that’s just so extreme and unrealistic.. I feel like this is something people don’t see as getting worse but in, say, the 70s it was totally normal for women to go outside without foundation on. The degree to which women are expected to compete with other women in the amount of money and unpaid time they spend on their appearance every day has accelerated along with the acceleration and of global capitalism in general
There’s a massive feminist movement erupting in South Korea right now where women are posting pictures of their destroyed makeup collections in protest of the massive amounts of sacrifice they’re expected to make towards conventional beauty just to be employed or viewed as normal. I know liberals like to talk about this stuff being a choice but when thousands of people are saying that it ISN’T a choice for them, and is in fact something they feel cornered into that’s actively harming them, that’s something worth listening to
Hi, so I read your story on Villain!Peter Parker, and saw that you said there was an issue of him being the villain, what issue was this?? And do you have like a link to it?
I’ve made a couple of different villain!Peter posts (I have a couple quick fics for it in my Sparks and Fireworks short fics collection) and I have two different AUs dedicated to the concept that I talk about from time to time, so I’m not really sure what post you’re talking about and don’t remember exactly what issue I mentioned. Odds are it’s one of two Grim Hunt-related issues; in Grim Hunt, there’s a brief glance at a world where Peter goes down the path of killing Kraven, which subsequently leads to a lot more murder:
Amazing Spider-Man #637 – re: Peter and murder sprees, there’s a short miniseries called Spider-Man: Friends and Enemies, where he graphically imagines going down “the wrong path”, it leading to a death, and then him enjoying it, which, uh, okay, Peter:
Alternatively, I know I’ve talked about What If? Grim Hunt, where Peter ends up taking over the Kraven mantle:
The manspreading, the chains, the unwillingness to put on animal print capris even when going Full Kraven. Woof.
I hope that helps! Additionally, while it’s not villainous at all, JMS’s Spider-Man run – staring at Amazing Spider-Man v2 #30 – threads a lot of important stories within the run with a predator metaphor, labeling Peter as a hunter, and there’s a lot of great content in it about Peter and his specific brand of rage.

girl why did you just jump into the pool just to swim over to korra and dramatically get back out in front of her

Underlined PSA
Figment, the recently closed writing website, has just launched (after a long delay) their long-awaited successor to figment known as Underlined, where users can post their work and receive feedback, supposedly.
DO NOT USE UNDERLINED. DO NOT POST YOUR WORK ON UNDERLINED.
Underlined’s terms and conditions contains a clause stating that the rights to all your work that you post on their website belongs to them!!!!
Underlined belongs to Penguin Random House. This is an extremely dirty trick for them to play on writers, especially young writers and children, who come to the internet to get feedback and will lose the rights to their work. Please boost!!!
For my writing friends looking for an online writing community, DO NOT USE Underlined.
I went to confirm @greater-than-the-sword‘s post, because seriously publishers are still pulling this garbage? And yes, they are. If you want to check out the full terms and conditions, have at it. They are full of writers’ nightmares, a few of which I’ll highlight under the cut.

favorite story: apparently, while filming “black swan,” the director would try to pit mila kunis and natalie portman against each other, telling them that the other woman was doing a better job, in hopes of making their characters’ rivalry seem more authentic. but it completely backfired, since instead of getting angry or competitive, natalie and mila would just congratulate each other on doing such good work.
Directors who do stuff like this are pieces of shit
What men think women are like verses what women are actually like
also this:
Let’s name the director: Darren Aronofsky. He has since directed mother! where he forced Jennifer Lawrence to reshoot a scene after she broke a rib or something. He is still really praised in cinephile circles, which is why I want to name and shame him.
And let us all admit that directors like Darren Aronofsky are not being praised DESPITE this behaviour but rather BECAUSE of it. They’re seen as edgy and willing to take risks and do what needs to be done, no matter the fallout, to get the perfect shot. They take risks for their art. Except, of course, they don’t. They make other take risks, they push and damage other people, not themselves.
Darren Aronofsky banned bottled water on the set of “Noah”, and after a long day of filming, Emma Watson came back to her trailer so exhausted and dehydrated that she unthinkingly drank a glass of water that had been left sitting out for weeks, maybe months. The water had gotten filthy by that point, and it made her horrifically ill. When she told Aronofsky that she was sick, he refused to let her take a break from filming. He told her to “use it”.
Aronofsky’s a manipulative, abusive POS.

Let’s pls end the idea that directors like this mistreating their actors are “Artists” who are “Doing it to get a better performance out of them”
No they’re just pretentious douchebags and if the only way they can make a good film is to mistreat their actors then they probably should quit and go find a different job because they are clearly shit at directing
I work in film and tv in ny and the best actor performances are the ones that are made through love and respect of the craft and the individuals involved. People work better when trusted and cared for vs yelled at, starved, alienated or mistreated.
I would say the same goes in any field. Bosses who treat employees like shit thinking they’ll get better work need to all be sacked
A recent hailstorm in Fort Collins, Colorado wreaked havoc as seen in this unbelievable photo of a baseball-sized hailstone crashing into the sunroof of a car. The shattered tempered glass was kept in place by the laminate and the sunroof now looks like a giant drip.

How Barack proposed to Michelle.
Dangerous flex but okay
But this is missing the real context. They were arguing over the value of marriage in a committed relationship. Barack often argued that if they loved eachother the marriage was unnecessary. And *that* is the argument he started before proposing to her
Less a flex and more emotional judo
