April 3rd marked 20 years since Grimstone returned after its first years-long hiatus. Eschewing the four panel daily gag strip format, the revamped Grimstone — originally a complete reboot — was now a serialized comic book, with a new page posted MWF.
You can read that story, "Dawn of the Morningstar," for free. You can also click over to the Grimstone Store and purchase all five issues of the original Grimstone comic book in digital or print editions.

Because of the Amazon/Comixology debacle, Grimstone is no longer available on that platform. Any links to those comics will just redirect you to the Comixology landing page on Amazon. If you bought Grimstone there, you should still be able to download & read it.
I have no plans to add the individual issues to the new Comixology / Kindle, but I may add the book collections if and when I get those completed.

Twenty years ago today.
One of the basic concepts behind Grimstone is that the main character Ribcage works as an actor playing the roles of skeletons & corpses in various movies and television programs. That is to say, that within the universe of Grimstone, skeletons in real monster movies are actually played by Ribcage.
So I thought it would be fun, at least until I start posting new comics, to spotlight some of his more famous roles. What better place then to start than with the 1959 William Castle classic House on Haunted Hill. Above are some photos of Ribcage with his co-stars, including the legendary Vincent Price.
Revisions & Retcons
Much like George Lucas and the Star Wars films, I’ve never been able to help myself from tweaking things in Grimstone after it’s been posted online. It’s been like this since the very beginning. I’ve rewritten dialogue, redrawn panels, and completely altered the layout of strips, all after the fact. It’s been a while since I did anything major to existing strips, but one of the things I have done over the past couple years is gone back and added new comics to existing storylines in order to, just like George again, bring them more in line with what I originally intended to do.
The most recent of these additions was to the original Grimstone storyline From Here to Insanity. I added quite a few new comics to flesh out the end of that story and made a major change to one of the last comic strips.

In the original, Ribcage realized that everything that had happened to him since he passed out from too much drinking was actually just a dream and never really happened. It’s cliche and was an easy way out. In the new strip, a lot more has happened since he and Cyanide went to the bar and then Ribcage got arrested for robbing a bank. Ribcage still thinks it was all a dream after waking up from yet another night of binge drinking, but quickly realizes that it probably did happen after all.
Anyway, I post this rather long explanation for anyone wondering what this strip is referencing. That probably means it’s not a very good joke, it’s really more of an in-joke to anyone who’s been reading this forever, but it makes me chuckle and that’s really all I care about :)
