over the astrological millennia, saturn has consistently been the planet of time, limitation, structure, order, and detachment. in ancient or traditional astrology saturn has been termed the father of time, retribution, boundaries, structure (mesopotamian origins); wisdom, suffering, patience, and endurance (greek astrology); time, boundaries, fate, and justice (roman astrology); contemplation, death, melancholy, and limitation (hellenistic and medieval astrology). saturn then is the "soul subdued by time", and in more contemporary imagery saturn is the lord of karma; saturn is the planet of restriction, death, structure, sadness, internalised fears, order, legacy, justice, "karma", and so on.

I'd like to present another set of opinions today on saturn. indeed, it is a generally agreed fact saturn is a malefic planet in the chart, as is mars. in traditional astrology saturn was called the "greater malefic", and mars the "lesser". the reason for this is there are planets that are wholly good and then there are planets that are wholly bad (this being the sun and jupiter, versus pluto and neptune, for example). generally speaking wherever saturn and mars sit within the chart, the native can expect some issues arising within the house. for example, mars in 7h is often deemed to be malefic as it predicts "ill marriage" according to deborah houlding; similarly, a saturn in 7h can suggest an insecurity in relationships/love for men as he feels inadequate in himself and untrustworthy of others. a saturn placement can indicate issues with control and letting go; there is a hard time trusting the self and others. the karmic influence attributed to saturn is not his monopoly. if jupiter is not always benefic, neither is saturn always malefic. jupiter is not benefic when in saturn's houses of 10h and 11h, and on a lesser note, 4h; saturn is not malefic when in jupiter's house of 9h and 12h, for example. in many online interpretations I have seen people like to say where you saturn sits in your chart is where others receive their karma. I personally feel karma is something much broader than this. I believe karma is the currency in which, if we mistreat somebody out of anger, jealousy, disgust, or genuine hate, then we will be treated likewise by another person, but we will feel it's our karma because it will feel as piercingly evil as it did for the person we mistreated. if the former statement was true, then that means if we mistreat somebody we generate an unlucky potluck in work (if their saturn is in 10h), loss of friends (if their saturn is in 11h), issues in the family (if their saturn is in 4h), or even a car crash (if their saturn is in 3h). what do you think about this interpretation?
