Grief

Grief is a frightening and lonely thing. Praise God that He doesn't leave us to suffer in our grief alone. Instead, He provides us with hope. He gives us healing. He promises us the restoration of all things. There may not be a shortcut to experiencing freedom from grief, but we do know who holds the prescription: Jesus Christ. God grants us healing. God grants us peace. God gives us hope.

When grief seems like far too much to bear, and when the weight of it all lies heavily on your weary shoulder, preach to yourself the truth that in Jesus Christ the broken are healed and the grief-stricken are restored to a glorious hope.

DAILY BREAD

Give us this day our daily bread. (Matthew 6:11)

I know You know what I need, Lord God-and I know You'll make sure I have it. But there are a lot of things I want, even though I may not need them. When those things evade my grasp, I feel so disappointed. There's so much I want in life that I don't have. Help me, Lord, to trust You enough that I can accept that each day You will provide me with what I need, even if I don't always get what I want. Remind me to stop thinking about what I can't have and instead focus on the many blessings You have given me. Today, keep my eyes open so that I can see the "daily bread" You give to me. Help me to stop wanting life's cake and candy when I have the Bread of Life.

When Jesus spoke of "daily bread," do you think He meant literal bread? What else might be included in this term? What nourishment does God give to you each day?
