She was the wall queen. I think she's surrendering to her own feelings for Carmy, bc now the guy has proved he changed for her.
He's finally being her PARTNER
He's back. He's there for her. He finally earned it. She's finally letting him in, and he has finally learned to say ILY in person, not over the phone, not when it doesn't count, not when it's too late. He changed for her.
The restaurant will survive because Syd said, "This is how we keep this place alive", which is a direct response to what Carmy told her during the fight when he bombarded her with euphemisms of "ILY, you're part of me, and I can't live without you."
But when Syd said, "This is how", she meant TOGETHER.
That is not just about the family-family, it's about the "sinking ship" that's not gonna sink at all, it's going to fucking sail bc they end up TOGETHER.
If you think I'm gonna beg you to trust me, you have another thing coming, chefs. Those who wanna do it will and those who don't, won't. And that's exactly how I want it. I don't beg.
What I will suggest you do is take a good, hard look at yourselves and answer these questions as truthfully as possible:
Do you think you're still here because you believe that Sydcarmy won't be endgame? You'd have moved on by now if you woulda given up on them.
Do you seriously think you are counting the days to 6.25 because you think this is a sinking ship? Really?!
Do you really think that you are tuning in that day because you're convinced they're never gonna happen? Please! Do not insult my intelligence. Or your own.
I'm not begging you to believe me, I'm gonna have to ask you to please believe in yourselves a lil more.
The one day thing still doesn’t scare me. Aside from potential flashbacks and flash forwards, I don’t see this format as bad news for Sydcarmy. Here are the positive possibilities:
• This one day is significant not only because it’s supposedly their last service. But because Carmy is finally figuring out that he might have a chance with Sydney. That she’s actually sad to be away from him and that’s the reason she was so upset the night before. If Carmy’s feelings are as strong as we suspect, then this revelation that Sydney might feel deeper things for him will make every moment between them feel charged (at least for him and it might be comedic for a bit until she starts to really catch on).
I suspect Carmy is probably acting a bit intense with his energy. His sense of urgency to make her happy will be on overdrive and that’s why we get shots like Sydney looking confused/thrown off while Carmy looks completely dialed in.
He’s trying to read her more than ever. No more “that’s what you wanted, right?” No. He is going to find out what she really wants no matter what it takes.
• Carmy will give Sydney his full focus like never before. It’s clear from the preview he’s trying to step up and do everything right. This show isn’t perfect but it doesn’t shy away from the concept of accountability & growth. I don’t think the writers are dense enough to believe this story’s ending will be satisfying just because Carmy was able to FINALLY pull his shit together for ONE DAY. There needs to be some sort of indication of a future where this growth will be truly implemented.
Carmy has mostly failed and hurt Sydney. This last part of the story should focus on redeeming that bond and trust with her. So why would anyone really care that he got it right for 1 day? It’s only satisfying if we come to an understanding that he will stay in Sydney’s life and maintain that trust. If he doesn’t plan on staying at the restaurant then how does he truly stay in her life in a capacity that matches their current relationship? It has to match it or increase.
You guys look at the clock. It looks like Carmy arrived at 9 somethingish in the morning. My guess is that he totally ended things with Claire and gave her back the sweater before seeing Sydney in this shot right here. Sydney is rarely at the restaurant before Carmy. And they prob won’t reveal the convo he had with Claire until later in the season
