Going outside with wet hair from showering is humiliating because everyone sees you and thinks stuff like "eww gross here comes the wet girl". But going outside with wet hair when it's raining? Unambiguous boon because now everyone is thinking stuff like "wow, she's so topical" and "her hair is a scathing critique of the times we live in"

When people argue that food from Chinese and Mexican restaurants in the US are not 'real' representations of that culture's cuisine ignore the historical reality that these dishes were developed by diasporic communities striving to recreate the flavors of home with available resources. Such criticism frames adaptation as a loss of authenticity, rather than recognizing it as a sincere and evolving expression of culture by people separated from their homeland.
Too good to leave in the tags
Sometimes you get a brief glimpse into the American worldview and decide that you don't want to know.
I cannot stress enough that this meme is entirely literal. there's no reference or subtext you don't know. these are simply the objectively most popular works of art from each denomination.
I DIDNT CHECK TH E SONG FULLY BEFORE POSTING THIS I FUCKED UP
congratulations!!! through doubt, you have unlocked backstory!!!
imagine, if you will, innocent, overly-trusting me listening to the mario galaxy ost and getting to the honeyhive galaxy theme, and thinkingĀ āwow! this song would go great with a pokemon walking gif!ā
a brilliant idea! i immediately search up the song, and oh, how naive i was.
the third result is very official-looking!! a perfect candidate for a quick youtube ripāitās just a meme, it wonāt hurt anybody.
the first few second autoplay, and it seems legit! i quickly copy the url and download the file, then make the post
at this point, i havenāt seen the gif along with the song iād intended to put with it, so i have a listen!!
and let me tell you, the surprise i got,
this is now rowletās theme

One of the funniest parts of the Superman movie is the film pausing to just be like "there is no possible way that recording of Supes' parents could be fake" because the plot wants us to treat it as a given that it is the real recording, but also, there is definitely NO WAY they could prove that beyond reasonable doubt.
It's a recording that up until now no one else knew existed, from an alien world, that's been broken for years and now allegedly been restored by Lex Luthor's unethical nano tech. How would you manage to be 100% certain it wasn't a hoax? The whole thing being manufactured by Luthor entirely would make more sense than his story about finding Superman's alleged secret Antarctic base that ~moves around~ and just happening to find & restore an incredibly incriminating transmission of his parents. In this, the day and age of AI deepfakes. #doubt
drug dependence is real, but sometimes people use this to further this idea that it means those drugs are a categorical harm in all contexts. sometimes you are already experiencing the thing that they warn would happen if you take drugs and then stop later. sometimes the worst case scenario is already your life before the drugs, and people will still try to present it like a scary consequence to avoid through abstaining from the medication that would alleviate it.
like I've had chronic insomnia for most of my life. I cannot sleep at night without drugging myself. is this great? no, it sucks. but this was the case before I got access to the drugs, too! and yes I tried everything anyone recommended about sleep, trust me.
people warned me like, "if you take those, you won't be able to sleep without them." ...I literally already could not sleep. I couldn't sleep without them before I had them. I can't sleep without them now. nothing has changed except now I have access to drugs that allow me to sleep.
at a certain point you just need to make peace with the idea that some people need drugs to survive. sorry if it makes you uncomfortable, but that's just how it goes.

I've talked about my fruit box on several occasions. How since I told my mom that I just don't eat fruit because the task of buying, keeping track of and preparing it is too demanding, she has been cutting up fresh fruit for me and putting it in an easily accessible box at least once, sometimes twice a week. This week, as she was cutting away, I asked her about it. "How are you still doing this every week? It's been years. It's very nice of you, but why do you bother?" Her answer surprised me.
"You know how schizophrenics have a much lower life expectancy than the general population?" she said. We do. For a combination of various reasons that I won't get into here - that's not what this post is about - people diagnosed with schizophrenia die earlier than people without schizophrenia, statistically speaking. Apparently my mom knows this too. And she has read up on it. Why do we die. What can be done.
Most of the contributing factors are not something my mom has any shot at affecting or controlling. But one of them stood out to her. Not a major one admittedly, but still it was mentioned. A lot of us don't eat enough or don't eat varied enough. We generally don't get enough fruits and vegetables, because when you're severely mentally ill and also likely to be poor, that's just not a realistic priority for a lot of people.
My mom has felt very powerless in the face of my illness. She loves me a lot, but it hasn't solved most of the things I've been struggling with, most of the detours my mental health has taken, most of the crises I've survived. And there's a lot she can't do, while also working a full-time job, and being there for the other people in her life. A lot of it is very much out of her control. But she can cut up fresh fruit. And so she does. Every week.
