Ex-libris by the Catalan artist Alexandre de Riquer (1856-1920), made around the year 1900. These ones are some of the examples preserved in the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC).
An ex-libris, also called bookplate, is a kind of printed stamp at the beginning or end of a book that says who owns it (think of the stamp you surely have seen in the books owned by a library). Though ex-libris have been used since ancient times, their "golden age" in Catalonia was during the Modernist movement (the Catalan equivalent of Art Nouveau), where many bookworm people commissioned artists to have a beautiful personal ex-libris that they could use to stamp all their collection.
The text in the 1st one, written in the Catalan language, says "no matter how much you know, there's always much more that you don't know" (per molt que sapies es molt mes lo que ignores).

If you'd still like to sign, the deadline is the end of July 2025.
Keep signing because of invalid signatures, there's a chance a lot of what's gone up will be invalidated once the campaign is over. The bigger our margin is, the more likely it is to actually pass, and the bigger the final number, the more likely the EU is to fold to the pressure.
tumblr staff will let the thousands of porn bots on here run rampant yet will take down trans comics with no actual nudity
i originally reblogged this post, but since staff took it down you can't fucking see my reblog anymore. well i liked this comic, i want it on my blog, and it does not include any fucking nudity. especially compared to all the straight up porn staff allows to go free
so here it is

Commission for my friend @lilith-iden starring her OC Vian, who apparently starts craving olives when pregnant... what a nice way to find out lol
I love that the internet saw people comparing women and other alienated groups of people and went, “they’re dating,” and, “they support each other.” We’re improving as a society.
Does anyone know who these artists are?? They’re brilliant and I’d like to credit them!!
THIS IS HOW TO TAKE A TRASH OPINION COMIC AND MAKE IT BETTER. THANK YOU.
The best genre to ever have existed
These improved my day
GAY RIGHTS

@ people in non-English speaking countries, does your language use things that “come from English” that are just… not actually used widely in English at all?
Like some places in E and SE Asia will abbreviate “WC” for restroom, especially for English translation, but I don’t know a single person in the English speaking world who still calls a bathroom a water closet, and I’ve never even heard of it abbreviated to WC even though it’s obvious how this came around
Yes! "WC" is very common in many European countries as well. In Germany we also have really strange examples like "Handy" (mobile phone) and "Public Viewing" (a public watch party, typically of a sports event).
in Brazil we have “WC” too, although i do think it used to be more common when i was a child than it is now. we also use “pen drive” to say flash drive, not sure why, and we use “notebook” to mean a laptop (i know thats not something they dont say in english but it just means something completely different in english lol, sometimes i still struggle to say laptop when talking about it because my brain wants to say notebook so bad but i know thats another thing entirely)
"Notebook" is also very commonly used in Germany. I also just remembered "Beamer" (projector).
In Catalan, we also sometimes use "WC" as an abbreviation for "toilet", we also say "pen drive".
Besides those, we say "footing" to mean "jogging", "zapping" to mean "channel-hopping" (changing TV channels quickly looking for something to watch), "friki" (our spelling of "freaky") to mean "nerd"/"geek", and "playback" to mean "lip-synching" (moving your lips like you're singing when the sound is actually a recording). I think lots of these are shared with other Romance languages, too.
hey folks if you have an android phone: google shadow installed a "security app".

I had to go and delete it myself this morning.
btw while people continue to fight the system don't forget about Undue Medical Debt (formerly RIP Medical Debt), a charity that buys and forgives medical debt. on average a donation of $10 will forgive $1,000 of medical debt.
I'm fairly confident that this is now the one original post I've made that has gotten the most notes, and I honestly couldn't be happier. the more attention we give this, the higher the chances that someone will see this and donate. medical debt is both one of the most crushing things a person can deal with and one of the stupidest things humanity has invented. and if you live in the US, I have no doubt that you've had to deal with medical debt in your life, either for yourself or a loved one. even a small donation can do so much good, and now is the time of year when we are encouraged to think of others.
Chibi commission for @lilith-iden! Rillao is tired of her Padawan's shit lol
theyre rly good for my art block
For comparison, the map of geolocated Wikimedia elements vs map of the Catalan Countries:
Catalan was the 3rd Wikipedia to be created (after English and German) but, even though German Wikipedia website had been created, it didn't have any articles for a while. For this reason, Catalan Wikipedia was the 2nd Wikipedia in the world with articles.
Since its creation in 2001, the Catalan community has been one of the most active Wikipedia communities in the world with the objective of making reliable information in our language freely available to anyone. In 2010, the Catalan Wikipedia became the first version of Wikipedia to rank high quality in all the articles of Wikipedia’s List of Articles All Languages Should Have, reaching this milestone even before English. It has also been awarded many other times for its high quality articles.
Thank you to everyone who contributes!
