I have a new job! I’ve been here for about a month.
Unfortunately it still involves monthly maintenance for several Wordpress sites. (maintenance is the most tedious, don’t you agree?)
The dev that helped get me up-to-speed taught me the basics of wp-cli for updating on my localhost, testing in staging, then pushing to prod for much convenience:
wp core update; wp plugin update --all; wp theme update --all
But he was unfortunately a contractor and I just finally got to try this out for the first time yesterday. It’s okay, but what else do I use this tool for?! Seems like it should be more useful than just for maintenance but I have no idea.
I have a tough time figuring out new tools like this as a solo dev. Sigh. -a

There is a constant pressure to learn new things and keep up with all the latest ideas: new frameworks, new platforms, new ideas of how to write code, they just keep coming out. In addition, the ebb and flow of what is desired from a front-end developer keeps changing. It used to be that knowing CSS and HTML was enough, then jQuery came along, then responsive techniques, then Node.js and then Angular, Ember, etc., etc., etc. That list, right there, it tires me out.
There are days when I feel that there is too much to learn and I will never be happy with my current abilities. -b

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how actual progress on a project doesn’t always match the impression of progress—sometimes a lot of code has changed but nothing looks very different, while other times a small change in code gives the sense that the whole project has moved leaps and bounds.
