I know Max mainly wears the hoodie out of spite to cover the camp shirt, but I also head canon that it’s a comfort item for him, like a security blanket. So when he grows out of it I feel like it would really affect him. David sees the Sad set in at the same time Max gives up on his old hoodie, and knows just what to do.
