Something I really liked about the phm book that doesn’t really come up in the movie (past the grace mental breakdown era) is how grace was fairly close with yao and ilyukhina.
It’s one of the earliest things he remembers and throughout the book, there’ll be moments where grace will go ‘ilyukhina would make fun of me for this’ or ‘yao would give some advice’ and it’s so heart wrenching because it keeps happening long after grace decides he’s gonna push down his grief
Grace finds a phone tucked in a random maintenance hatch a couple years into the Erid trip and starts laughing so hard he's crying because the pictures and videos folder is full of Vat shenanigans.
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3

Shapiro drowning in Dubois’ EVA suit. Dubois with Shapiro's suit taped to him and her helmet balanced on top of his head
Grace looking at the camera confused while the core time circle around him like the one girl surrounded by five guys meme
Stratt reclined on a couch looking demure with a coffee mug and using Grace's legs as a lap board for her tablet. Grace is dead asleep, obviously snoring with his mouth wide open and covered in reports. His glasses are on Stratt's head.
Carl walking by the camera with Grace thrown over his shoulder. Grace is visibly pleased and yapping.
Illyukhina walking by the camera with Grace thrown over her shoulder. Grace looks vaguely ill.
Yao passionately doing karaoke with each of the core staff members.
Lamai asleep on a prototype coma bed.
Steve Hatch maternity shoot with the Beatles.
Grace and Dimtri using a centrifuge to make butter.
Grace and Dimitri getting yelled at by Lokken for using a centrifuge to make butter.
Dubois carrying Grace and Shapiro under each arm to the cafeteria. They all are talking like this is a normal occurrence.
Yao hanging upside down from a simulator that glitched with a straight face while Illyukhina is crying laughing on the floor below him.
Compilation video of the world's greatest minds dropping tools, tripping, and running into the glass walls.
Videos of the astronauts defeatedly drifting away from the mock ship in the buoyancy tank after losing their grip. The others are dramatically reaching out for them.
Redell teaching the Russians about New Zealand bombing dives in the training pools.
Shapiro, in formal wear, standing next to a slideshow titled “How I Cloned and Replaced the World Leaders”
Dubois - “My Alien Seduction Tactics"
Grace - “Middle Schooler vs Scientist”
Dimitri - “Using the Incorrect Equipment for Correct Results"
Hatch - “Yoko Ono: First Contact?”
Lamai - “How Not to Use a Coma Robot”
Lokken - “Grace is an Idiot”
Leclerc - “The Ice Age and You”
Stratt - “Things I DO NOT Have Time For”
Carl - “Securing a Home Depot for Idiots”
Yao - “Worst Times to Make a Joke”
Illyukhina - "Benefits of Vodka in Space”
Reddell - “What I Did in 1989”
Illyukhina passed out on top of Dmitri (also passed out) surrounded by a minefield of bottles none of which are for alcohol.
Leclerc looking upset and holding a penguin plushy.
Horrible mishmash of memes from all over the world plus some homemade memes of various quality.
bodies should have crash logs. why the fuck did that just happen.
grace, who has been alone for five minutes: oh my god. an alien! im not alone anymore! i hope he wants to be friends :)
rocky, coming up on 50 years of solitude, imprinting on grace in ways baby ducklings can only dream of: if you leave me to sleep where i can't watch your heart beat i am blowing up this tunnel with us both in it
free fic idea up for grabs. godspeed

The evolution of Asian leads in American animated films since the 2010s
To specify:
Hiro Hamada ("Big Hero 6"; 2014) is half-Japanese, half-white, and lives in an alternate universe where California (specifically San Francisco) was heavily influenced by Japanese culture due to immigration.
Yi ("Abominable"; 2019) is Chinese and lives in Shanghai.
Fei Fei ("Over the Moon"; 2020) is Chinese, and her film draws on Chinese mythology.
Raya ("Raya and the Last Dragon"; 2021) is from a fictional land influenced by Southeast Asia (specifically Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines).
Din Song ("Wish Dragon" 2021) is Chinese and lives in Shanghai.
Meilin Lee ("Turning Red"; 2022) is a Canadian girl of Chinese descent.
Ember ("Elemental"; 2023) isn't human, but since the director of "Elemental" is Korean and based it on his experience as the son of immigrants in NYC and Ember's VA is of Asian descent, I count her.
Kenji Sato ("Ultraman: Rising"; 2024) is Japanese.
Rumi ("Kpop Demon Hunters"'; 2025) is Korean. While her father is a demon, the culture/world he comes from is Korean, so IDK if she counts as mixed from an ethnic perspective.
Stevie Ting and Elliott Ting ("In Your Dreams"; 2025) are Americans with an Asian father. IDK what his ethnicity is, but since his VA is of Chinese descent, I'm guessing they're half-Chinese.
Mabel Tanaka ("Hoppers"; 2026) is an American girl of Japanese descent.
Aang ("The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender"; 2026) is from a world influenced by South Asian, East Asian, Southeast Asian, and Native American cultures, with the specific culture he comes from being inspired by the monks of Tibet. I know he's originally from a 2000s tv show, but it felt wrong not to count him.
Jo and Raissa ("Forgotten Island"; 2026) are Filipina.
Ehile "Ultraman: Rising," "Over the Moon," "Abominable," and "Wish Dragon" were co-produced by Asian companies, they were still co-produced by major American animation companies (Netflix Animation and Dreamworks), I still count them. I think someone also mentioned that Billie from Disney's upcoming "Hexed" is Filipina, but that may just be because her VA has some Filipino ancestry. Gotta wait to see if that's true. Also something I hadn't paid attention to before: someone mentioned on Twitter that out of the SEA rep we get in western animation (both films and TV shows), Filipinos usually get the most attention. What other ethnicities would you like to see from SEA?
