Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
~A. A. Milne
I've never met a strong person with an easy past.

Hi! I love your blog ! It makes me feel braver, actually. So, thx for that.
Glad to hear it, on both accounts :)
Remember this: Nothing is written in the stars. Not these stars, nor any others. No one controls your destiny.
Gregory Maguire, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West
So what? You failed your finals. You gained some weight. So what? You’re single again. You lost your job. So what? What now? You live. You try again. That’s what.

Be the person you needed when you were younger.

I’ve been working on concepts for our upcoming comic “Quibbling" lately. I was reading a lot about familiars, talismans and amulets and found something really neat about all of those things. Magic is often associated with known (sometimes religious) symbols, but a a lot of magic is very personal. Medieval familiars were creatures with forms the "witch" decided or found attractive. A lot of magic symbols are just shapes that came to the users mind. Doodles with significance only to them. It’s the personal significance, the emotional connection, that gave them power. Modern practical magic kinda goes back to that. Using Pavlovian responses, soothing smells, tastes and colors. Gave me the idea of maybe splitting the world of Quibbling between Grand-magic and Small-magic (Practical-magic?) Not sure what to do with that yet. The lead of the story, Cid, is the type to wear patterns and carry cute things because she believes it would bring her luck. I love that type of character. Here’s a few practical magical examples I thought you guys would dig.

Being a Gryffindor isn't just about facing scary beasts, or a very evil wizard, but waking up everyday to conquer - even the littlest of things. Most of the time, I feel such a loser because I'm not bold or courageous. However, whenever I come across some type of reminder that in our every-waking moment, we face the big-bad world. By the end of each day, we are stronger than we were before. Thus, we are already brave. I am already brave unconsciously. It's why I love being a Gryffindor!
ravenclaws who are brilliant but fail to ever do homework slytherins who help with temp agencies and get people into Wizarding businesses
gryffindors who do kind things anonymously instead of being knightly
hufflepuffs who speak their minds and make social change in school
Hogwarts students who defy the stereotypes of their houses while still belonging
Some examples of day-to-day courage:
Getting up and doing what needs to be done every day, no matter how difficult, tiresome, or demanding it is.
Taking time to talk to or befriend people who are generally overlooked.
Not caving in when other people pressure you to do something wrong.
Defending someone from insults and bullying.
Owning up to your own mistakes and behaving with responsibility and accountability.
Expressing disagreement with an authority figure or someone who is popular.
Having your work be examined and critiqued. Whatever it is - a paper you write, a short story you publish, a piece of art you display, or a recital you put on - it takes courage to put your work out there.
Any kind of real intimacy or vulnerability with another person.
