The Ash/Clemont Dynamic

So let me take a minute to talk about one of my favorite aspects about the XY Anime, the budding bromance between Clemont and Ash

The reason the dynamic between Ash and Clemont is interesting to me is because it’s one that we never really get on in the show I mean think about.. Every male companion on the show has always been the big brother figure, always the one being responsible, always the one giving lessons when the younger members of the group make mistakes and always the one taking care of everything in regards food and medication (with varying degrees). These kinds of characters would be portrayed as being held to a…hmm..lets say “higher standard” then Ash very seldomly being on equal ground in terms of knowledge and responsibility….and that’s where Clemont comes in. 

Ash and Clemont are (we can infer) around the same age and that instantly bring Clemont to a level near Ash that lends to a more informal relationship. I found this is shown rather well in XY009 where Ash wastes no time laughing and putting his arm around Clemont. And near the end when they’re both sleeping together (*cough*) they both make a promise to give it everything they got when they face each other in a Gym Battle, and then they proceed to share a laugh. Its such an appealing aspect to me because they foster a bromance that I hope is developed more in the future. Another aspect of said bromance is the qualities that leave each of them impressed by the other

Clemont has his strengths, but also has his faults. He has several personal failings such as his low athleticism and self esteem and he must overcome those faults in order to better himself as well as be a better person for those he cares about, and it’s why a person like Ash is so impressive to him from that kind of perspective. Ash doesn’t “fear”, he does whatever he has to to protect his friends no matter the cost and while he’s no star athlete he can run and climb like a regular Mankey. Whenever Clemont doubts himself it’s always Ash to revive his confidence with his boundless optimism and (as he puts it) gives him the courage to see things through a great signifier of trust between the two. 

Just as Clemont is frequently impressed by Ash’s feats of bravery, so is Ash at Clemont’s many assortment of machines and gadgets. Why this is strikeing to me is that Bonnie is usually the first to be unimpressed and Serena is usually apprehensive, Ash however is always blown away by his inventions and even if they fail he usually manages to find the positive aspects of what they did accomplish. There was Clemont’s failed sticky web shooter which Ash was able to devise a strategy for Viola from. His Flying Pokemon Phonograph which instead attracted a swarm of Beedrill much to his chagrin, but Ash argues that the fact that it was able to attract Beedrill in the first place was an impressive feat. The Pikachu detector which failed to get an exact fix on Pikachu but WAS able to find his general area. It shows how much faith Ash put into Clemont’s inventions and shows how impressive it is for Clemont to invent the things that he does at his age.

What I’m want from future episodes? I want more bonding moments between the two, maybe have a casual battle between them every now and then. Speaking of battle, I very much look forward the eventual Gym Match between them and I hope it shows the nuances and qualities in both of their battle styles and tactics. Maybe even have Clemont showing what he has learned thus far on his journey with the XY gang.

    We know Willow wasn’t in Hexside when she was around around 7-10 years old because Odalia mentioned she hadn’t been accepted into it yet. Considering they have classes starting from around preschool age and up this implies Willow transferred schools! I wonder if her family moved to Bonesborough or if she was just homeschooled as we know her dads are willing to do so. I’m leaning on them moving because they say they want her to have a ‘top notch education’ and I don’t think they’d homeschool her as a first choice. Maybe they thought Hexside was a better school then her previous one?

It's interesting to me that neither of Willow's parents are plant magic users, or at least neither studied plant magic. I always assumed plant magic ran in the family but both pushed Willow towards abomination because it was more like the STEM field of covens. However in actuality Harvey (beard) studied abomination and Gilbert (glasses) studied construction.

Even further neither went to Hexside, and as we've seen in small details the schools they did go to (Glandus for Harvey, Saint Epiderm for Gilbert) are not near where they settled down or was nothing like Hexside's culture. Saint Epiderm is explained to be really expensive and really cold due to being located in the Knee, so either Gilbert was also on scholarships like Raine -- which means he was sol about how Terra fucked with the IFWOT -- or his family was able to afford tuition. Glandus is apparently full of bullies and aggressive measures, as seen in "Through the Looking Glass Ruins", so Harvey might've had a rough time at school.

I think these details where neither went to Hexside and neither use plant magic, while not what I expected, does make sense for why they'd take Willow to a more affordable/less aggressive school and why they'd push her towards a more "prestigious" coven track --- very classic "we want you to have an easier/better life than we did" parenting train of thought. I do wonder now given where he's moved to and his studying of abomination magic if Harvey works with/for/in rival companies of the Blights. And for Gilbert, what kind of work construction magic does (do they like. City infrastructure? Work on the castle? Contract work?). Anyway hope we see more of them

I’ve heard people say that Willow looks more like one of her dads. But nah, she looks like both.

Willow has Gilbert’s hair, skin and eye color, yes. That immediately catches the eye. But she also has Harvey’s eyes, face and nose shape.

So I wonder how!

Is it their anatomy? Being able to carry a child isn’t dependable on sex?

Or is it a spell?

Or rather celestial incantation? That would be cool!

Bringing books to life by Wailing Star, or animating any object by Moon. It looks like a few instances of celestial magic use connects somehow with life. Even Lilith’s incantation has something to do with splitting and sharing any pain.

I wonder how does this work!

Would be awesome if both partners(or even more! how amazing that would be if more partners can join in making their child!) touch some magic filled artifact(the touching part) and chanted a specific incantation. On a specific day of month, depends on the Moon, of course!) The artifact will absorb witches magic and energy.

And then from that artifact a flower bud will bloom(what flower exactly depends on future parents <3). Small first. They take it with them and care and the bud will grow bigger until one day it will blossom and reveal their newborn! <3
