Currently rewatching s1, and feeling so sorry for Scott and all the suffering he goes through. He just wants a freaking normal life, clinging to lacrosse and Allison as a part of his humanity that was stolen away from him.
With Derek and Peter both terrorizing him, as well as hunters after him.
The only person he meets who is knowledgeable about werewolves, is also the person who attacks him, who abuses him, who threatens his life for risking the secret. And who makes it clear that the only thing he cares about is Scott not revealing Derek's secret.
How is Scott supposed to trust this man, who lies to him from the first time they meet, and who is constantly keeping secrets. Who has information but won't share it unless Scott does something for him. Who tries to manipulate him and use him.
And don't get me started on Peter who doesn't even see Scott as a person, just as a weapon to use against the Argents, that he probably plans to discard of, the second he's gained his objective of killing Kate.
Scott meets this girl, this girl that anchors him to humanity. Who is kind, and pretty and the first girl that notices him.
But all too soon he has to realize that he can't tell Allison the truth. Because he almost immediately finds out her father is the hunter that came after him and shot him with a crossbow. (it's noticeable that in s6, one of the few times the show deals with Scott's PTSD, his trauma coming back involves being hunted, and he even brings up 'his girlfriend's dad trying to kill him.)
People complain that Scott trusts Allison over Derek. And yet, he knows them an equal amount of time, and Allison has given him way more reason to trust her than Derek has.
Yet despite all that, despite Stiles telling him to use the werewolf thing as a way to brag to Allison, Scott never does. He never finds himself able to trust her enough to tell her the truth, until her father forces he revelation on her.
Hunters could have been someone to go to, they're supposed to be the ones that go after the monster that attacked and violated Scott. But due to Derek's actions, it's made almost immediately clear to Scott that they are no more than a threat. With Derek luring Scott out into the woods, where Derek knew the hunters would be. Putting Scott in danger so he could 'save' him, and gain Scott's trust.
Hell, even the one classmate, other than Stiles, who finds out the truth on his own, aka Jackson, is too focused on himself to even try and listen to what Scott is telling him.
Remember that 'oh so funny 'where did you get your juice' scene? I'm sure you do, but do you remember the scene right after it, where Scott talks about waking up in the middle of the woods, his senses going haywire on him, and being scared of going out of his freaking mind. Most of fandom ignores that part just as much as Jackson did.
Because all Jackson sees is what he can get out of it, as if becoming a werewolf would plug the gaping hole in his life that's been there since he found out he was adopted.
It doesn't matter how much Scott tries to warn Jackson of the dangers, Jackson's narcissism makes him unable to realize that he'd be no more able to handle things that Scott did. That it isn't about power, but about all the crap that comes with it.
And the one guy Scott should be able to rely on, his best friend, aka Stiles, is not remotely taking it serious, and just seeing it as this grand adventure, this d&d game come to life. It's part of Stiles naivety that he does not really get how serious the entire situation is, until Peter attacks Lydia, and kidnaps him.
that's the first moment all season that Stiles actually has to come to grips with the fact that all of this is real. That the danger is real, that this isn't a game. that his best friend isn't going through something fun, and it's in big part of that, that Stiles is able to say no to Peter, when Peter does offer Stiles the choice, in order to try and manipulate Stiles.
Scott was going through hell, and Stiles just didn't get it. Even to the point of attacking Scott, aka the victim, for somehow bringing the supernatural into their life when the sheriff was lightly hit by a car while doing his job. As if it were Scott's choice.
And even then it's Stiles putting expectations on Scott, just like Derek does, just like Peter does. Never accepting that this wasn't Scott's choice. It was something forced on Scott.
Looking at the actual show, with Peter trying to take over Scott's mind, trying to force Scott into killing people, and Scott both mentally and physically having to stand up to that force of evil trying to control and/or manipulate him...
It just makes me feel so sorry for this sixteen year old kid, who in essence is forced to go through all this on his own. This child who was violated, and abused. Because the only people around him, either don't know, don't get it, or just want to use him. And somehow despite all that, he still manages to make the right choices more often than not.
I just love Scott so damn much.
