Apparently this is “The clearest photo of Mercury ever taken.”

Taken by NASA’s Messenger spacecraft in March of 2011. Messenger was equipped with 11 narrow-band color filters in the visible and infrared wave lengths at 24 m/pixels. Further processing of the data from Messenger through additional filters produce the colors you see. (It’s a complicated process… if you want to know exactly how it’s done you will need to research it for your self… :)
