A character struggling against restraints has so many possibilities. Do they fight back with every ounce of tired, furious strength left within them?

Slap them across the face. Stay still.

Do they yank their hands away as they're tied together with rough ropes?

Use metal cuffs. Take away that small hope of wriggling out of their bonds. Lock them over their wrists and tighten them until they remember they're a prisoner.

Nothing more.

Do they laugh, with a voice that's mocking-- refusing to take the situation seriously?

Remind them of its gravity. A blow to the ribcage, a swift crack of a baton over their head, or behind their knees should do the trick.

Do they curse and bite, threatening to drag you down once they're free? You'll regret this--

That will never happen. Don't let them forget it. You'll beg for death by the time I'm done with you.

Freedom is what they once had. They're simply struggling to come to terms with it.

Strong/powerful whumpees being held as trophies. They are showcased in front of anyone the Whumper wants to in-still fear in.

Whumper doesn’t ask Whumpee to do anything. Just stay silent. Stay still.

Maybe Whumpee is chained up, kept in a glass box?

Maybe Whumpee is muzzled?

Whumpee is kept weak so they can’t fight back. Drugged? Starved? Your choice.

Whumper wants them displayed to show their dominance. The ability to contain someone so powerful like it’s nothing.

when a powerful figure is reduced to kneeling. when the lord is forced to bow. when the exile stumbles into an unwelcoming bar. when the “beast” is chained by their horns. when a god is dragged behind their enemy’s chariot, a captive and trophy. when the loyal “guard dog” character is muzzled and the silver-tongued thief falls silent in horror.

that’s the shit

it’s about the contrapasso. the reversal of roles and the sudden, plunging terror of being unable to hide.

i don’t think caretaker trauma is talked about enough

of course whumpees are going through horrible things and deserve care and love and all that. they’re the whumpees, they’re traumatized to an extreme degree.

but being the person who cares for the whumpee, the one who has to see this shell of a person over and over, the one who the whumpee flinches away from when they’re just trying to make sure whumpee eats. the one who is running on no sleep because making sure the whumpee gets rest is more important than sleeping themselves. the one who had to watch the ransom videos. the one who was just sitting, helpless, or the one frantically searching to no avail. the one who blames themselves for not being able to rescue whumpee sooner.

the caretaker deserves some love and care and comfort too.

Whumpee desperately trying to get up and find caretaker (they've gotten separated, taken...), but is unable to do so due to exhaustion and pain.

oh i love this. there’s so much about this that’s very fun for me - why were they separated? on the run and got split up? safe and sound and caretaker just stepped away for a minute? whumpee just abducted? caretaker abducted maybe?

and just. the inability to actually get up and look and why. imagine caretaker has just stepped away to do something - give a statement or interview about what happened, talk to a doctor, make tea in the kitchen if recovering at home, and whumpee wakes up or looks around for them and realizes they’re not there. cue the panic - the fear, that something has happened to them and it was whumpee’s fault for being asleep or drifting in pain or tiredness or a medicated haze. fear for themself too, that they’re in danger and vulnerable now that they’re alone.

so they try to get up. it hurts so badly they nearly black out and they’re shaking, trembling and unsteady. they collapse back onto the bed the first try, but they have to try again. they have to get to caretaker. so they try again, shaking harder, and only make it to sitting up before the exhaustion and the agony of severe, fresh injuries sends them crashing to the floor, crying out when they land. they pant into the ground, hands clenching and flexing as the pain comes in waves, tears making their face and the floor beneath it wet.

hands land on them and they flinch so hard they press even harder into the ground. the ringing in their ears and the panic surging through them calms just long enough for them to register that the voice they hear is caretaker, returned from what they were doing (maybe hearing the struggle, maybe summoned by someone else), horrified and worried to find whumpee in this state.

Hey, hey! Friendly reminder to make sure your supposedly “fearless” character gets their darkest fear revealed in the worst way possible so they break down into a vulnerable shaking mess in front of all the people they care about

When Whumpee has worn a shock collar long enough to know what comes just before the pain, and all it takes to correct their behavior is Whumper’s hand drifting toward their pocket, where Whumpee knows they keep the remote.

The sudden flash of regret across Whumpee’s face as they hold out a placating hand and blurt, “Okay, okay, I’ll do it! I’m sorry, please don’t—“

The whumpee had managed to escape on their own, but find themselves in a frigid, snow-covered forest. The whumpee is covered in injuries and bleeding, they’re definitely not dressed for the cold either- but they just know that they need to keep running, they need to make it somewhere safe.

Whump enjoyers who haven't played BG3, which character sounds most appealing just from their ordeal's description?

1: A duke's son who made a deal with a devil to become powerful enough to save his city. Part of that deal was that he couldn't talk about it or why he did it, and he was banished from the city by his father for dealing with a devil. He is now bound to do the devil's bidding. The devil refers to him as her pet and treats him as such.

2: A cultist in a dark cult trained to torture others as per the doctrines of her goddess. Her memories have been wiped, and she firmly believes she is doing the right thing, having been told so for all that she can remember. Being devout doesn't exempt her from the pain, however: her goddess routinely sends pain through her, always watching.

3: A soldier raised in a cutthroat militaristic society centered around worshipping her warrior-queen-goddess. She knows little of the outside world and was forced to fight and kill her peers, not that she minds it: she fully believes in all the principles she's been raised with. Her world starts to shatter as she realizes she's been raised on lies.

4: A warrior who used to be a bodyguard, loyal to her client. Her client betrayed her, selling her to a devil. Seeing potential in her, the devil forced her to fight in a war in hell. Her heart was ripped out and replaced with an infernal engine that makes her burning-hot to the touch, starving her of physical affection. After 10 years, she managed to escape, but the engine is slowly killing her, not made to function outside hell.

5: A magic prodigy who caught the attention of the goddess of magic herself. They had an intimate relationship with an incredibly unbalanced, toxic power dynamic. In an attempt to prove himself, he attempted to wrangle with a powerful magic artifact. He failed, and as a result, became infected with an arcane illness that requires him to consume powerful magic items or die. The goddess rejected him after his failure, leaving him to deal with it alone.

6: A corrupt magistrate whose judgments were so unpopular, he was beaten to death. He was "rescued" as he lay dying by a vampire who turned him into his spawn, a creature beholden to the will of the vampire who turned him. As a slave under the vampire's rule, he was tortured for the sake of pure sadism, had scars carved into his back, starved and made to feed on rotting dead rats, and made to use his body to lure back victims for his master- for 200 years.

When whumpee flee from their captivity but, because of their physical and mental state, they collapse in the middle of a forest and are found by a complete stranger that turns out to take care of them even not knowing a single thing of who they are and why they were in that state.

Only for Whumpee to spit at Whumper.

That pissed off Whumper, and that meant they would torture Whumpee again, but Whumpee had a triumphant smile on their face after they reeled back from the assault.
