Even though Alicja Trout and Jay Reatard had broken up, they recorded this fantastic pop punk song as the b-side of their only single as Nervous Patterns. I'd hazard a guess that it was very much autobiography

One of my all time favorite Jay/Alicja singles. Such a BANGER. Intense sonic explorations like this defined their somewhat brief but incredibly fruitful musical partnership.

One caveat: the official title of this tune is “You Can’t Change.”

Press kit for Silver Jews, issued in 1994 by U.S. record label Drag City.

Silver Jews first came to my attention via the Pavement connection, and they were on Drag City so hey, they had to be cool.

It was only later I understood that it was David Berman (not the Pavement dudes) that was the talent behind this outfit. Not that this tongue-in-check press release helped illuminate things for me. But I really enjoyed the comic on the back by one “DC Berman.” Hmm…
