People who insist they are "Leftist but not Liberal" are really funny. Because the term "Leftist" can make sense as a shorthand to describe something's position within a specific political context, using it in a dialectical way, but treating "Leftism" as an ideology by itself is very metaphysical and only makes sense if you believe that the Liberal "political spectrum" accurately encompass all politics. So in both general approach and specific assumptions, politically identifying as simply "a Leftist" is a very Liberal thing to do. No matter how many discrete political positions you hold that are considered "Left" of the contemporary mainstream, you don't really stop being Liberal until you reject that ideological framework altogether
