There are various views on the origins of the Wari. Devotees of Vitthal were holding pilgrimages prior to the 14th century. According to one theory, Vitthalpant, the father of the Varkari saint Dnyaneshwarbegan the Wari to visit Pandharpur in the month of Ashadha and Kartik. Another theory credits Dnyaneshwar ( 13th century) and the saint Tukaram (17th century) to have started the pilgrimage. They used to journey to Pandharpur by foot for fifteen days, reaching Pandharpur's Vithoba temple on Ashadhi Ekadashi. The Wari is generally regarded to exist for more than 800 years (at Lonand, Maharashtra, India)

Wildlife has always been a subject that has taught me a lot about patience and waiting for the right moment. Being in the wild changes a person completely. The person turns into a part time yogi. Nature has so much to offer about life leasons too. I do not click wildlife only because I get to use huge lenses and high end cameras but more than that it's a training phase for me. That's what I believe when I go out to click wildlife. Wildlife trains me by helping me learn and use the skills of life as practice so that when I return back to my fast pace life in the city I can apply those life, personality, personal-development lessons into the real world. P.s: this was shot on a point and shoot camera that was given to me by my sister when I gave up clicking on film and started with digital photography. (at Sanjay Gandhi National Park)

My mother returned to her native place after 27 years with Her husband and her 2 children. Me and my sister. I had never see a village so diverse on the coastal area as this village was. It had everything. Buffalo's grazing in one part of the field, farmers running a shift cultivation farm, a small lake where storks, herons, and egrets were awaiting their prey, a vast land full of rice fields. And protecting all this beauty were tall, straight and huge coconut trees. On the upper part (sky or aerial level) were the bee eaters and kingfishers looking out fr bugs and bees keeping a vigil fr their prey sitting on the electric poles. Out of nowhere a predator comes out. Being a on the highest level of the food chain he's the king of the sky's. A carnivore in air. The battle has began. Theirs for survival and his for food. He kept on trying hard but failed to capture a single bird. Exhausted and tired he decided to show one last act of war to remind them who was the boss. He spreads out his wings completely and gives a loud screechi call to warn the others that I will come back for blood and before retreating to one of the coconut trees for resting and regaining his lost speed. We all love gold. Probably the most valuable possession one can have. What if one entered a kingdom full of gold??? Richness baby...That's what I felt when I first entered into Hampi. Everything looked golden, even the light (well we reached during the morning golden hour light time). A kingdom full of gold and yet it was called ruins. Well after a very bad flying experience (plz spicejet do something or else u'll end up like kingfisher airlines), another round the state 6 hour bus ride, 3 hours of waiting at Hospet bus depot (we reached at 2.30am...late late very late) and then taking the 1st bus at 6am to Hampi. I had reached my destination. The feeling i had was one like the time when you conquered the world or won the world cup of say had reached the highest point on Mt Everest. My travel companion @chefyash was already half dead. Poor guy. He was sleep deprived as I kept on sleeping whenever I got a chance and someone had to stay awake. And as you may have guessed I was too lazy to do that job. But when I saw the the golden kingdom as I entered Hampi, all my tiredness, sleep, laziness, boredom, problems and worries (we had not booked a place to stay, PM Modi had also played a trump card- "DEMON-etization") was gone in just a snap. I felt rejuvenated. I was fresh. When you enter inside the boundaries of Hampi village you see that you are surrounded by a huge plain lava rock mountain. On this mountain you'll find many ruins and caves or whats left of it. These ruins used to be temples during the reign of Tulava dynasty in the 14th and 15th century. These ruins are today popularly known as the famous Hemakuta Hill. This hill has even got a mythological connection to it. It is said that lord Shiva had done his penance on this hill before he married Parvati devi. When he finally agreed to marry her the sky miraculously rained gold on the hill, giving it the eponymous name Hema (gold in Sanskrit). There is still gold to be found on this hill, in the shape of golden light. Hemakuta Hill is certainly one of the top locations in Hampi for watching sunset along with hoards of monkeys that seem to be there for the very same thing. So I returned there at the end of my first day at Hampi, with the last rays of the day illuminating the ruins and wider landscape with a golden glow.
