4 years. This is how long it took to gather and coordinate the four Kamchatka photoshoot essentials: The best local team, four world class kiteboarders, logistics (visas, permits, tickets, boat, tents, vehicles...), two photographers and a cameraman with unwavering dedication.
After all these years, I had this bad feeling that I was expecting too much, that only disappointment awaited me. The same feeling you get before a New Year's party full of false resolutions. So, it was with a heart full of passion and fear that I began this trip into the depths of Russia.
Located in the far east of Russia, Kamchatka is a huge volcanic peninsula covering 270,000 km². It was classified as an "ultra-secret" military zone at the end of the Second World War; the peninsula was therefore closed to visitors until the 90s. This has preserved the authenticity of the place and nature there has remained almost intact. Special permits are needed to venture from the capital and there is little to no infrastructure to get around. The Pacific coast receives swells and winds, and it was there that we would be hanging out.

DAYLIGHT - #MondayMusic
Get yourself ready for some 360p joy with this Monday Music treat.
This has been one of the most frustrating songs in my head for a while. Managed to resurface from a decade ago to tease my brain. After searching for “we something something something, we something something something” for what seemed like weeks, I found it!
Matt and Kim’s Daylight reminds me of so many great drives, of…

A Foot of Turf from KAMIOKANDE on Vimeo.
A remote island's culture is fading away due to an economic downturn, but islanders both near and far return every week to watch their beloved soccer team.

"Salmon fishing is hard-wired into the DNA of the people of Arranmore—an island community of native Irish speakers whose population hovers barely above five hundred. In the latest film from David Drake, we are introduced to this unique and storied society whose way of life is increasingly imperilled as a result of a 2006 ban on salmon fishing by the European Union. The ban puts an end to a resource that, for generations, has been the life-blood of the community. This, explains Drake, "was a death sentence for the local economy, and it is doubtful the distinct culture of the island will survive long without it."
The island's population—many of whom have been forced to move away in search of work—is dwindling and ageing. And yet, there are efforts to keep the flame alive: "Islanders from as far afield as Leicester return to Arranmore in support of their football team, which isn't just another club—it's an expression of their pride and identity." Each weekend the players set to work, tackling and scoring between the great blue mass of the Atlantic and the wall of wild mountains that rise from the island's interior."

Final 2 weeks of the @iamashley get your camera out creative kick up the butt
The usual walks with Elliott over the festive break threw up some foggy treats, fingers were well and truly frozen. Saw some amazing examples of nighttime Glasgow but I couldn’t get my ass out at night to replicate so here are Razor Ramon’s photos.

Week 2 of the @iamashley get your camera out creative kick up the butt
Another week down of dragging my old Canon 550d and it’s nifty 50 about. This time down to Manchester for a bit and then out with Elliott and some lens whacking. There is something really analog about lens whacking that I love. I often use old Yashica glass for doing this and the manual aperture rings are a clunky joy. I guess it takes a while to get the art form down and the bokeh and crap focus…

Week 1 of the @iamashley get your camera out creative kick up the butt
December is always a rather grim personal creative time, I look back on a year of very little creativity or projects and realise that when I don’t set myself forced deadlines I really do nothing. While wallowing in this I came across the below tweet from @iamashley
I’m up for it. Always enjoy starting a creative year with daily photos, maybe this is a good way to end a stagnate one.

A wet Saturday in Glasgow with my boy
A wet Saturday in Glasgow with my boy
Winter has well and truly arrived in Glasgow. Not the frosty mornings and sight of breath you’d expect, but so much rain and a natures carpet of leaves everywhere.
Elliott and I decided to head on out for a grand day in the rain, adventures through Kelvingrove, pictures in Glasgow University gardens and then a cheeky pint in Bag of Nails ( formally known as The Partick Tavern). The Bournemouth Vs…

Argyll 1949 from Scott Peters on Vimeo.
I visit the Western Scottish Highlands at least once a year to visit my dad. About an hours trek from where he lives in Strachur, Argyll is the crash site of a Boeing B-29A-70-BN Superfortress from post World War II. There's a lot of mystery and uncertainty around the incident, the events that preceded and followed. This is the crux of that story.
Shot in the snow on an A7Sii, Zeiss Distagon 35mm lens and a sometimes work, more often not Ronin-M and the company and encouragement of Anna.
Featuring the vocal talents of actors John Lowrie and David Schneider.

ENDLESS STORIES from Márcio Leitão/ Squarehead on Vimeo.
‘Endless Stories’ is a short film made entirely out of Getty Images content, showing how Muhammad Ali was defeated for the first time in his career on March 8th, 1971, by Joe Frazier. More than that, though, the idea behind the project is to show some of the other stories that happened on that very day, in the same place, while the fight was going on.
