"You're being ridiculous Berdara."
Gwyn opened one of her eyes to take a peek at Azriel. He stood above her, arms crossed over his chest, already changed into his sleeping attire of a plain black shirt and pants.
Instead of replying, she turned onto her side and jammed her legs even closer so that her body was curled into the shape of the too small couch.
He sighed exasperatedly behind her. "Just come back to bed already. Your blanket doesn't even cover you completely and I know that the millions we have on our bed would be much cozier."
Her cold toes twitched but she still refused to reply.
"Your back is going to be killing you tomorrow."
Gwyn lifted her middle finger in the air.
"Mother help me." He sighed.
Shuffles were heard before shadows danced across her skin, no doubt trying to entice her back to bed. A hand rough with scars cupped her cheek.
"Gwyneth Berdara, bane of my existence and love of my life, will you please come back to bed?"
The tired yet desperate tone to Azriel's voice made her shift, opening both her eyes this time. A part of her felt bad for keeping him awake this long, the shadows under his eyes even more defined at the late hour.
"Not until you apologize."
He dropped his head with a groan. "Seriously?"
Gwyn's gaze sharpened into a glare, fully prepared to go back to sleep.
"Fine!" Azriel exclaimed, before letting out a defeated sigh. "I'm sorry for-"
"Not to me." She cut in. Gwyn grabbed the pegasus plush she had gotten from the market and held it at eye level with him. "To her."
His expression twisted into pure disbelief. "You're shitting me right now."
"If you have nothing to say, then goodnight-"
Both of Azriel's hands reached up and grabbed the pegasus, staring down at the plush with complete and utter disdain. "I'm sorry for-"
"You're sorry to who?"
A pained look came into his eyes. "I'm sorry Celestial Majesty for saying you were ugly and looked like evolution gone wrong."
"And?" Gwyn goaded.
"You're killing me here." He groaned but still continued. "And I'm sorry for saying you were waste of money and materials."
A triumphant smile came onto her face as she threw off her blanket and plucked the pegasus from Azriel's hands. "Okay we forgive you."
Without missing a beat, he swung her into his arms, ignoring her yelp of protest. "I swear to the Gods, I've never met anyone as stubborn or as ridiculous as you. I can't believe I just apologized to a multi coloured plush."
A teasing smile came onto Gwyn's lips. "But you still love me, don't you?"
He looked down at her and despite the ordeals she puts him through, the fondest smile came onto Azriel's face. "Without a doubt."
Her heart skipped a beat at the sincerity in his voice. "Well I guess it's a good thing I love you too Azriel." She paused. "Even if you're disrespectful to my pegasus."
He snorted. "It's not my fault the merchant made her look like a rainbow threw up on some cotton."
Gwyn gasped in outrage. "Do you want me to go back to the couch?"
"Too late." Azriel stated, before tossing her onto the bed and under the covers, before collapsing his entire weight on her. Gwyn couldn't stop the laughter that escaped her as she wiggled around, trying to get out from under him.
He simply tugged her back until his arms and wings were cocooning them both. She felt the smile on his lips as he kissed her, on her forehead, then nose, then cheek, and finally her own lips, muffling her giggles.
Gwyn's yawn broke their kiss and Azriel let out an amused chuckle. "My stubborn mate seems to have tired herself out."
Too sleepy to argue, she nuzzled her face into the crook of his neck, and breathed in his scent of mist and cedar, already feeling drowsy. Azriel sighed with contentment and pressed himself closer until every inch of their bodies were entangled with each other. His shadows had taken to curling up on shoulders and Gwyn's legs.
And as the faint glow of the moon shone through the curtains, Gwyn felt her breathing get deeper, slowly lulling her into sleep-
"Wait Azriel! We left Celestial Majesty on the couch!"

The actual text:
Cassian couldn’t breathe.
Hadn’t been able to breathe or speak for long minutes now. His family had arrived. And they all surrounded him in the wrecked bedroom of Emerie’s house. They were speaking, Azriel with some urgency.
Something so interesting that I could see potentially happening between Azriel and Gwyn is a reincarnation trope—a bond so strong, a love so profound, it traveled through fate and allowed them to experience it again. (Bonus points if Gwyn remembers their past first and tries to find any and every way to get Azriel to remember them, as well)
honestly i can’t stop thinking about the first time Gwyn really flirts with Azriel. like not shy or blushing or tentative—but sharp, confident, Gwyn.
They’re sparring. blades clashing, her braid a mess, sweat dripping down both their faces. she knocks him off-balance for the first time ever and says with this wicked little grin:
"Careful, Shadowsinger. I might start thinking I can take you."
and Azriel—this ancient, broody, stone-faced Illyrian laughs.
And then Az just looks at her, grin lingering, and says:
"Maybe I want you to''
And Gwyn? She doesn’t miss a beat.Just winks and says,
Can you imagine Azriel standing behind Gwyn while she’s reading in the library, absolutely saying nothing, just watching her lips move as she mouths the words? Not because he’s creepy—because he loves the way she concentrates. The way her brow furrows when she’s deep in thought. The way she tucks her hair behind her ear
.And Gwyn?
Gwyn feels him there. Always does. She leans back into it. Into him. Into the silence that isn't silence when it's Azriel. It's comfort. It's gravity. It's safe.
Imagine theorizing Gwyn is going to die when the Valkyries mean so much to SJM and her friends 🤭 especially the one Gwyn is based on. Imagine being so threatened by Gwyneth Berdara and her chemistry with Azriel and the fact his lifelong companions like her (unlike someone else) that you gaslight yourself into thinking she’s not going to have the happiest ending in the series 😂
