I’d love to be asked some of these!
Apples? Nah mate. I’ve got Diamonds now.
Is it just me or does Rebecca Bross have reallyyyy nice inbars? Her legs drive me mad but like it's so deep and her toes are pointed. I never see anyone talking about them haha.
Yeah hers were pretty deep! Definitely better than what WOGA’s putting out these days haha. I think people don’t talk about her in general bc she hasn’t been relevant in about six years. Always loved Brossy tho.
her timing was so tragic RIP why are nastia and maddie the only post olympic year seniors from woga who survived a whole quad
Honestly kind of amazed that they survived an entire quad since WOGA seems kind of notorious for burning gymnasts out haha

Anastasia Grishina Appreciation Post
Artistic Gymnastics
He especially pointed out that if a Chinese gymnast performed the way Mustafina did in the AA, she would not have got the same score as Mustafina’s.
Good. It’s about time. I totally agree about the FIG coming up with new ways to deduct for things that China does well (like how even exceptional layouts are rarely credited) and punish them for their issues (labored kips have become a HUGE deduction because it’s really the only thing they do wrong on bars, not to mention the capping of pirouettes and their low CV), meanwhile for other countries their glaring issues tend to becoming less important deduction-wise (bent knees, flexed feet, shitty leaps). Also it’s totally inappropriate for Bruno to say that the Chinese should have to take a Western approach to artistry in order to do well, as if the Western style is inherently superior. A statement like that totally goes against the spirit of international competition.
I totally agree (and Songsong did perform as well as Mustafina in the AA and did not receive the scores reflecting her performance).
I’m generally against caps and want those gone across the board, which would help pirouette elements that the Chinese ladies do so beautifully. I’m actually ok with the high deduction for labored kips because honestly it shouldn’t be a problem when it’s literally like the first skill you learn on UB, but I do wish some of the other form deductions would be higher across all events (ESP sloppy knees and flexed feet and bad twisting form).
And I hate the notion that there is only one acceptable form of “artistry” because there isn’t. I consider Simone artistic, I consider Songsong artistic, and I consider Cata artistic and those ladies couldn’t be more different from each other. GAH I hate Bruno.
I feel that this could have more weight if the chinese team was rolled out internationally during the olympic year. Like I was totally crazy with the triple punch front from the chinese until I saw Eythoras and I was like oh thats how its supossed to look like. And yes, russians and americans get the benefit of the doubt, which wouldnt be a problem is everybody else got it too
I disagree a bit.
China had the only creditable layouts from 2015 Worlds I believe. The FIG is actually rewarding them for stuff like their excellent beam work. They have problems elsewhere in the routine like artistry and pauses (something EVERYONE got hammered for in 2014 but seemingly, only china didn’t remedy it).
I don’t mind the cap on pirouettes. There is a cap on transitions as well, even though that’s what primarily Russians and Americans used to get higher D-Scores on bar last quad. Lets also look at the 2008 bar final versus the 2012 bar final. 2008 was when same bar pirouettes could receive bonus, but it was done away with in 2012. Which is by far considered to be the better bar final? 2012.
Now I agree transitions have become a little heavy last quad and don’t like how Kocian and Mustafina basically had the same routine but I’m sure things will even back out again like it did after 2008.
The one thing I do disagree with is the idea of western artistry because who is anyone kidding, the Russians and the Americans haven’t really been showing off beautiful artistry in the past few years. However, the Netherlands was the most artistic team in Rio and their artistry doesn’t follow typical Western ideals IMO and they were rewarded for it there.
I literally hate all caps on all skills on all events because it doesn’t encourage innovation.
And honestly re: the back layout, if no one is getting credit even though there is a CLEAR difference between someone who starts the skill fully extended than someone who never fully extends, then why even have the skill in the COP at all. Just seems like they don’t take other skills as seriously which is dumb (i.e. front pikes on beam where some people have already bent their knees in prep for the landing before they even get half way through the salto).
Caps on any skills need to die. There’s no reason why a Huang, Inbar 1.5, Seitz, or Komova I should be worth the same as an Ono, Van Leeuwen, or Komova II. There’s no incentive to do the harder skills when they’re worth the same as much easier skills. Also the stupid FIG no longer credits the Huang and considers it the same skill as an Endo 1/1 when an Endo Ono on one arm is clearly much harder.
And the Chinese did get credit for their layouts at 2015 Worlds, but not all of them get credit at the 2016 Olympics. Only Fan Yilin got credit for her layout every time. Wang Yan was never given credit. Songsong was given credit in TF, but not in AA. Her layout being downgraded in AA cost her AA bronze. Songsong’s layout is clearly superior to someone like Aly Raisman’s, yet they were given the same value in AA. And the harsh judging on layouts should be applied to bad switch rings, switch 1/2s, front pikes, gainer “layout” dismounts, etc. then.
Also it’s inaccurate that pirouette CV was taken away in the 2012 COP. E + E pirouettes still got 0.2 CV. D + E pirouette and transition or release combos got 0.2 CV as well. The 2013-2016 COP brought the CV for these down to 0.1. This was to encourage more flight element connections a la Beth Tweddle, but instead everyone started doing the same boring transition fest routines.
Wang Yan and Mao Yi’s triple + punch fronts are both great like Eythora’s. Songsong’s isn’t as good as the other 3 tho ia.
I don’t think labored kips are really China’s problem on bars anymore. They fixed that problem with the incorporation of shaposh releases like everyone else. The problem is the gienger between the bars. Everyone who does it gets tons of amplitude deductions, rhythym deductions, catching close deductions, deductions for the handstand afterwards etc. It’s not smart routine construction.
Of course in Rio the Chinese and sub 1 (ie. Nina and Tutya) had regular, sane judging on bars and beam, while later in sub 4 the judges went crazy with bars and beam e scores (all the Americans and Jlo on bars, Gabby and Aly on beam).
Bruno Grandi is the worst. He said Chinese gymnastics is robotic and needs to be more western. He said Japanese gymnastics succeeded because they went away from Japanese culture and became more western. Both the Chinese and Japanese are innovators in gymnastics. And the Japanese didn’t become more western in their gymnastics. They still have their own amazing style and won in MAG with it. And for WAG favored teams like US and Russia really don’t have better artistry than China. Like Russia was amazing last quad but this quad they don’t have endurance and are clearing saving their strength and preparing for turns and tumbling the whole routine. The Netherlands was more known for their artistry this quad.

Massive congratulations to Wang Yan for a great Olympics and for hitting 13/13 (or 15/15 if you count 2 vaults) consistently which is rare for a Chinese gymnast and unimaginable a few months ago. Team bronze, 6th AA, 5th vault and 5th floor, lots of confidence and hopefully more to come in the future 😘
Wang has been one of my favorite gymnasts you watch at this Olympics. I’m so thrilled for her and I hope she kicks ass and wins medals next quad.
Wow the stars truly aligned for her
do you have any idea as to what the inquiry for laurie's routine was about?
no, I’m actually not sure what they were contesting.
Yeah I did a score recap and I was like what are you doin lol
maybe it was a $100 tip for the excellent service they received in qualifications :P
omg
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I wasn’t planning in getting on the Anti-Judging wagon, but wtf is this shady looking shit?
WANG YAN JUST HIT EVERY ROUTINE AT THE OLYMPICS
Chinese stan here and honestly if you pour all the salt I have into the great lakes we would have five more Dead Seas.
So sad to see Dasha miss right now, at the Olympics, after being so great on bars this quad, after winning so many medals. Such a shame!
It’s funny to think Dasha’s biggest success in Rio was really her beam routine in qualification that ended up counting.
What is the world we live in
