After failing once again to achieve the goal—held back by the fear that the result wouldn’t meet their own standards—they decided to call it a day and try again tomorrow. They collapsed onto their bed, the mattress sinking beneath their weight. Pulling a warm blanket over themself, they rested their head on the soft pillow. Before drifting off to sleep, they went over everything they had to do the next day—the same things they had failed to complete. But that was okay, they told themselves. There was still tomorrow. Plenty of time to reach the goal. They promised they would wake up earlier, give themselves more time, and fix their sleep schedule. Eventually, their eyes closed, holding onto that determination for the next day. “Rise and shine.” Sunlight streamed through the window beside them, filling their dark room as if urging them to wake up—to begin again, to finally make a fresh start. Nothing. They remained lost in their dreams, ignoring the promise they had made just seven hours before. Fortunately, the blaring alarm clock beside their head joined forces with the sunlight. The piercing noise. The burning light. It should have been enough to pull them back to reality. But it wasn’t. They failed. And so did they—once again
