yifei was glad she had listened to adi. the party was - as much as she hated to admit it, pretty fucking fun. the majority of the party goers were uh students she recognized, but a few she could see were the travelling spring-breakers. everyone was luckily staying outside of the water, and shrimp had yet to be offered to her. adi seemed to be having fun, too.

everything was good. the music was loud. the drinks were deliciously strong. people were having fun. the guys weren't half bad looking . . . was her dress being lifted right now??

she could feel it. the slight tug of her dress, lifting up towards the sky. as soon as she felt it, her head whipped behind her to see what exactly was happening, only to see a perverted bastard. a guy probably around her age, his hand around the edge of her dress, and a panic in his eyes at being caught.

and when dealing with men, yifei wasn't always the most rational.

"oh - you fucking pervert!" she screamed, most likely alerting everyone else at the party of what was happening. if the guy wasn't panicked before, he surely was now - along with a bigger problem on his hands. or, well - on his face. yifei gave him a hard right hook directly to the nose, thankfully knocking him back to the sand and off of her dress. however, this did not free him of her rage, as she stood directly over him to continue yelling at him. "what the fuck are you doing?! who the fuck do you think you are?! are you looking up my dress?!"

unfortunately enough for yifei, there was a sort of weakness she felt in regards to her best friend. a complete inability to have a back-bone and say 'hey, adi - you know what? no, this is a really bad idea'. yifei liked to party, too. she wanted to be normal, too. she didn't want to feel like a complete freak around girls who could stand in the water in their bikini's for more then 10 seconds without growing a tail (which, she loved - but not exactly at this moment when they were about to attend a beach party during spring break). but this was a rather big stepping stone to get across, and she wasn't exactly the tallest person.

"fine... i'm not sure why i even try." she mumbled, looking at her best friend with a defeated smile. "it's impossible to say no to you, anyway." yifei lets out a little groan as she forces herself to sit up, a quiet complaint of 'oof, my back' filling the air as she presses the dress against her frame, staring at the mirror. after a few moments of numerous thoughts in her head like, 'does this make me look fat?', 'is this dress too short?' or 'should i just wear a bathing suit instead?', yifei settled with the dress and matching shoes with a bathing suit underneath for extra measure.

it was a pretty dress. and the shoes matched, too. dammit. adi really was good at this.

"well, what do we think? it's cute - right? don't look at my hair, it isn't done yet!!"

⠀⠀⠀⟢ “adi, you know i love you…" yifei starts, a necessary ‘but’ forming – words that have been previously uttered whenever her best friend thought up a ‘great idea’ that she would always go along with. “but do you really think that going to a party … a party at the beach, none the less, considering our new – um, new very-recognizeable-and-very-uncontrollable-water-deformities, is the best idea right now?” she asked with a sigh, taking the dress adi held in front of her, and holding it up to her frame and staring into the mirror. it was a pretty dress. adi always had such great taste.

“i want to seem as normal as you do, but if just a spray of ocean water gets on us, we're – well, we'll turn into mermaids in front of everyone that's going!” the self-proclaimed mermaid whined out, going limp onto adi's bed and melting into the softness of it. normal seemed like such a distant possibility now with what had happened – all due to another one of adi's great ideas. 

“it's dangerous. we don't even know the extent of how we change!” yifei began to freak out now, and ramble – two of her worst traits. “what if i get offered a shrimp cocktail and i eat it, and then i change? what if a flying fish comes out of the water and slaps me out of the face, and then i change? what if i just randomly change without touching water?!” she groaned, taking a second outside of her manic panic to sit up and stare at her best friend, mimicking the pout on her face. "i don't even like shrimp …. but it could happen.”
