Do you have any Mátyás/Ladislaus or just trón headcanons in general you’d mayhaps like to share with the people…
Well this got way longer than I expected, this mid musical is really not all that...
- a half-serious one is that Kunigunda did not know Anna was attacked she just said she's dead because she decided she wants to marry Mátyás someday because he also likes books
- Garai had very detailed and intricate plans about how to manipulate Ladislaus, willing to spend months or even years doing so; and then it worked in two minutes in the stupidest way possible
- Garai Anna regularly uses "the light told me" as an excuse
- Mátyás didn't even want to do all that he's just a people pleaser
- Ladislaus is my problematic autism representation because he's evil <3
- Garai Anna tops just look at Mátyás come on
- the ominous apparitions ominously foreshadowing stuff to Ladislaus were sent by Anna to torment him because he deserves it
- meta headcanon: the reason they haven't kept Ladislaus' wig from Kecskemét is because they sold it to buy more rope and no one is thankful for that
- if Ember Márk had put emotions into at least the first half of the songs then I could excuse the second half being emotionally flat by saying that Mátyás is traumatised by László's death but alas
- the snakes are not a metaphor, Garai really does have a bunch of evil snake companions like the cartoonishly evil advisor uncle he is
- meta headcanon: the reason this whole musical exists is because szente vajk saw how successful the Hunyadi series was in 2024 and he thought "I need a sexy* Hunyadi as well to make me money" (*both actors' hotness is debatable)
- meta headcanon: Arany János wrote so many ballads about the Hunyadis/related to them and yet there's not an ounce of intertextuality, that is because — as proven by the stupid lyrics this musical often has — szente vajk cannot write and he's stupid
- i still think about @peach-paradox 's "Ember Márk time travelled and everyone thinks he's Mátyás" tags and that would explain so much, 1) his confused face at all times, 2) the lack of emotions bc he just met these people 3) the way Mátyás is very conservatively touching Anna on this particular picture
bc clearly that is some random woman and not Havasi Virág (his irl wife) nor his good friend Veréb Tamás, why would he hug her like that 4) why he's being dragged from place to place and just goes along with it.
- all the noblemen around Ladislaus try to get out of having to be on babysitter duty every day
- Ladislaus' death song has many mentions of dancing and it's a bit waltz-y around the end (to my untrained ears that know nothing about music) so I wouldn't rule out Ladislaus/Der Tod (Veréb Tamás/Veréb Tamás or yet another Nikita Braga/Veréb Tamás I guess)
- imo Ébredj tavasz is just canonically 14 year old Mátyás' teenage fantasizing of a better future and a battle between good and evil, trying to be like his father who's currently being a hero at Nándorfehérvár etc. (same sort of thing that the song Legendary is in EPIC the Musical)
- Nagy király leszek is less of a "look at me i'm so cool!!" song and more of a "if i say it enough it has to be true, right?" song because you have the ominous ensemble contradicting Ladislaus with the truth and he seems to be aware of it?? A bit, at least, so deep down he knows he's lying to himself.
- this is me excusing nonsense lyrics writing but that's why we're here, right?; when the angry mob calls Ladislaus László once and then never again (unless it happens in dialogue but then I don't know about that), they do it because they're like "well okay you want to be King of Hungary so bad, fine, be a Hungarian king, be László, but now we're gonna tell you what you should do, László, you should lose your head, László, you asshole"
- in another universe Zofia didn't stab Anna but tried her poisonous lipstick assassination attempt on her as well and there was toxic yuri
- most of the murder related shit Ladislaus orders is because of his ego, he was manipulated into these decisions and he knows to some extent but he can't back out now, so let's strike Hunyadi László with that axe again and again, even though he was unsure if it should be happening at all (not really a hc more like analysis?)
- A trón may not have a narrator in a timeloop but it has a Garai Anna who knows every plot beat from the very beginning and nothing really surprises her (someone take her to see Elisabeth please just don't let her question why the murderer looks like her boyfriend)
- this is @is-this-taken-too-questionmark 's 10/10 idea that needs to be shared: Anna would be a tiktok tarot reader alterlány in 2026 and she'd have 4 viewers despite always being right (and i concluded that the 4 viewers are Mátyás, László whom Mátyás forces to watch, Szilágyi Erzsébet bc she likes her son's gf and Mátyás' alt account)
- Mátyás thinks he's in a middle grade adventure novel; Ladislaus thinks he's in a nonfiction about a success story; Anna knows she's in 15th century Hungary filtered through Erkel Színház; Garai thinks he's in Barbie Princess and the Pauper and he's Preminger; Szilágyi Erzsébet thinks they're in Game of Thrones, Kunigunda thinks she's in a YA romantasy; László accepted that he is in a tragedy where he needs to die to further the main character's development; Zofia thinks she's in Assassin's Creed 2
Mátyás/Ladislaus specifically:
- since Mátyás tells Ladislaus "lesz ország, lesz nemzet, rád mégsem emlékeznek" in Song 23, lines that he previously only heard(?) uttered by the ominous apparations he may or may not see, this leads me to believe that Ladislaus' self doubting inner voice/his consience is just Mátyás (I think @is-this-taken-too-questionmark you came up with part of this)
- Mátyás and Ladislaus could have been friends (musical and history wise too, theoretically it could have happened it just didn't)
- meta headcanon: the reason Ladislaus and Mátyás don't have a duet in which they argue about something is because szente vajk hates gay people
- after Cillei's death but before Garai's return Ladislaus is a guest at the Hunyadis' and he says he liked being there with them which can only mean that he got into a brief situationship with Mátyás
- after Mátyás learns of Anna's "death" he instantly looks at Ladislaus which is. certainly a directorial choice. i can only assume the reason is homosexuality.
- Mátyás and Anna are bi4bi bc that's the only way I can care about a hetero pairing /hj. Also Ladislaus would get cancelled for being bad bisexual representation (since he's evil)
- if Mátyás were to be nice to Ladislaus that's bc he feels sorry for him and feels some noble obligation and Ladislaus knows this and abuses this power. it only works if the yaoi is toxic <3
