“Remember to actually get the cane from him before you do,” she chimed in as a helpful reminder. After all, that was what this whole thing was all about. Also, it was kind of hilarious that Hermann was so secure in his knowledge about the culprit, but then again, Rin couldn’t exactly dispute him.
She set a brisk pace down the hallway, and she made it to the cafeteria in no time. She paused for a moment when she spotted Hermann, a look of concern on her face despite the anger that was radiating off of him. It couldn’t be comfortable to be walking without a cane, and that worried her more than the anger did, but hopefully she could help somehow.
“How are you holding up?” she asked as she approached him. “Don’t want you pushing yourself too hard before you have the satisfaction of catching the culprit,” she added, keeping it lighthearted.
The second he spotted Rin walk into the cafeteria he stood up, leaning on the edge of the table so he didn't have to put pressure on his leg. He smothered the stinging in his leg with rage, wanting to get his cane back and make Newton's life hell. At least for a day.
"I'm fine. I'll show him a thing or two when I get my hands on him. He and his gang of culprits are acting like children. I can tell you right now that Chuck will be involved as well. When is he not involved."
He hesitated for a moment, realizing he wouldn't make it without a cane. He'd need to make do with something else. "Would you know where I could get another cane or at least a stick?"
-
Yep, Hermann sounded angry. Which Rin couldn’t really fault him for, considering that Newton had apparently stolen his cane. Not cool, man. Not cool. With her phone still on one ear, she grabbed her own jacket and threw it on.
“I trust your instincts,” she told him, and honestly, it wasn’t too far-fetched of an idea. “I’m on my way.” She was already mostly dressed, anyway. She took one last sip of her coffee before she stood up.
— She almost spewed coffee all over everything at Hermann’s cursing. It wasn’t everyday that one heard a threat like that coming from the man. She hid her laughter behind her hand. It was nice knowing you while it lasted, Newton. Rest in peace.
“I’ll see you soon, Hermann. Try not to burst a blood vessel until then.” And with that, she left her room to go meet up with said scientist.
"I'll be murdering Newton on sight."
He was beyond calming down, suspicious and wary looks from people in the halls as the mathematician used the walls to walk properly, even though it still hurt. Though non one dared stare for too long in risk of getting the German more angry.
Newton was a dead man walking.
The second he got to the cafeteria he slumped down onto a chair, his leg stinging as he winced. A few people lurking in the room stared at Hermann, getting a deadly glare back from him and dispersing.
No one wanted to mess with an enraged German.
-
When her phone rang, displaying Hermann’s name, she picked it up without a second thought. “Hey Hermann,” she greeted him cheerfully before she took a sip from her coffee mug. Mm, roasted coffee goodness.
Her brows furrowed in puzzlement, though, when she heard his voice and his words. “Of course,” she said without missing a beat. She wasn’t one to deny someone help if they asked for it. Well, unless they had seriously pissed her off, which Hermann hadn’t.
“What’s the matter? Are you all right?” she asked, sounding worried as she put her mug down, already getting ready to head to where ever she was needed.
He moved around the walls of his room as he talked, already furious and all of the apparent fatigue from previously evaporating.
"My cane, it's been taken. I have a pretty good feeling it's Newton and his band of idiots. I'll need help finding them and getting my cane back. I'll meet you on the way to the cafeteria."
He'd been able to at least get half dressed, putting his parka over his t-shirt, already heading for the door.
"I'm fine but when I find Newton he's going to have that cane shov--"
He'd pulled the phone away from his ear and practically yelled the threat, it only just audible as he pulled the door open.
Newton was going to regret ever taking Hermann's cane
Something was off. Hermann could feel that something in his room had been touched, making him turn over in his bed and reach for his cane.
But his hand touched air.
His cane was gone.
Newton.
He stood, using the wall to support himself, reaching for his phone and sending a quick message to Newton, knowing it would scare him witless and get him running.
H to N: You're dead when I find you.
He didn't have a cane and had no way of quickly getting around. Though there one person he knew he could rely on. Dailing in the number, he put the phone to his ear and waited for an answer.
"Rin. I'm in need of your assistance."

”—Oof.” The biologist hit the floor with a thump and rolled onto his back, bleary-eyed and discontent, and his mouth opened in argument before he closed it and reconsidered his words. It wouldn’t be the first time he’d slept on the floor, and he really could’ve headed back to his room to change the sheets, but Hermann had made it an absolute necessity to irritate him the second. ”You know what.” Reaching out a hand, Newton pulled the covers onto the floor with him. “That’s how we do—” Oh. Well. Hermann wasn’t exactly supposed to be in his boxers. That wasn’t part of the plan. ”You know, it’s weird, but I always figured you were more of a briefs guy.”
He didn't mean to shove Newton off the bed, though now that he had it back to himself he was glad. He looked down at his colleague with a quick look of victory before turning over, his back to Newton, pulling the blankets over him.
Though how futile it was when the covers were yanked from his grasp again. Though this time he wasn't prepared as the blankets left his bed completely and left him completely exposed in nothing but a t-shirt and boxers. He let out a surprised sort of noise as he scrambled off the bed and into the bathroom.
"Jesus fucking Christ Newton."
His voice certainly didn't sound kind as he slammed the door shut, finding some pants to wear and calling through the door.
"It isn't exactly appropriate for one of your stupid jokes."
igottachimein replied to your post: -
"Jokes on you, ‘cause I’m not stealing your bed, I’m sharing it. There’s an actual difference, Herr Gottlieb, I thought you mathematicians were all about differentials," The words were muffled ungraciously into a pillow that wasn’t his.
"You're occupying a space that is mine. It counts as stealing for me. Now would you please get out of my bed." He more-or-less sounded tired and annoyed at Newton disturbing his sleep. He sat there for a moment before he pushed Newton. Most likely too hard, but he really did want him off his bed.
The problem with trying your best to be quiet was that it often failed, and Newton tensed as he stepped over a few things and dropped down onto one side of the bed that didn't belong to him, "-I don't know what your policy with cuddling is, but I'm assuming it's something along the lines of non-existent, and I'm okay with that--" In other words, he was still going to collapse on his back beside the mathematician, and seize up some of the covers.
For once the mathematician had actually fallen asleep without the help of ‘other means’. Though how long it would last depended on certain reoccurring disturbances while he slept. Though the ones he heard weren’t quite what he was expecting.
The second he heard the voice he jolted upright, seeing Newton make himself at home on his bed. When the covers were pulled away from him he yanked some back to keep the lower half of his body covered. He was dressed for bed after all.
”Do you mind. It’s not exactly civilized to come into a persons quarters without asking first, let alone steal their bed.”
I'm starting to think 'Hermy' isn't nearly as good a nickname as I initially thought, and I henceforth dub thee Pookie. You're welcome, in advance.
"...."
He's going for the ignoring tactic.

Did someone just send me a message? Resend if you did, it didn't come through.

“You love it. It’s one of the endless perks of working with me.”
"I do not love it.
And it hardly seems like a perk."
"I am going to murder you."
“Call me Hermy again and you’ll learn what other’s have in the past, Newton.”
”The wrath of Hermy— I’m shaking in my boots.
"Stop it.
It's not funny Newton."
“Well you’re not exactly being quiet about it.”
“That’s considered stalking in some countries, Hermy.”
"Call me Hermy again and you'll learn what other's have in the past, Newton."
hadnochoice liked your post: You and Hermann are seriously the cutest.
“Is this what you do now? Wait around for me to slip up—”
"Well you're not exactly being quiet about it."
Aftermath
-
A small laugh fell from her lips at his words, though they were a bit morbid. “I should put down on my resume that I make a decent human crutch.” She grabbed a chair nearby and pulled it up next to the couch, seating herself in it.
It had been luck that they’d had someone who was willing to make the trip to the lab. The doctors could be busy at times, but apparently today was not such a day. It perhaps didn’t hurt that Rin may have exaggerated Hermann’s injuries a little to convince them.
“Don’t even worry about it,” she said with a wave of the hand. “Tea can wait.” It wasn’t as if it would grow legs and run for it. “And how differently would they have reacted?” It was a genuine question she had.
He sighed, wiping blood from under his nose with the sleeve of his jumper. It was already wrecked beyond repair, it wouldn't matter if a little more stained his sleeves. The bleeding had some-what stopped and the lounge was proving more comfortable than his desk chair.
"Are you sure it's not a problem? I wouldn't want our chats to go wasted." More-or-less he talked with Rin because she knew when to listen and when to talk. All Newton could do was contradict and argue instead of having a simple conversation.
"Well for a start they most likely would have turned around and walked back out. Newton for sure. Our last conversation didn't exactly end well..."
