Interview with (H)afrocentric: the Comic creator x Talia Taylor.
For Bad Girl Confidence.
The book launch of (H)afrocentric's Volume 3 in Brooklyn was a huge success! One of the ideas that Ronald Nelson, Akima Tahanee, and Shawn Whitehorn discussed in the realm of possibilities is building on the ideas of mydiaspora.com. Mydiaspora.com is the idea in (H)afrocentric that there is a website dedicated to social networking around anti gentrification.
We expanded that idea and had a number of slides dedicated to showing redlining in Brooklyn (because the book launch was in Brooklyn), a definition of what redlining is, the new maps of economic development (often seen as a harbinger of gentrification), and then a map of the future. The map of the future is dedicated to thinking about what could be if we lived in a world that loved blackness, women, and revolution. This is what was projected on the walls during the book launch.
Gentrification be like...? I discovered you!
But really, what does gentrification be like...? Tell me what you think! Tweet @hafrocentric
