The use of abbreviations for Ṣalawāt and Salām, such as SAW, PBUH, and A.S. for the Prophet ﷺ, and S.W.T. for Allāh, has become the norm in today’s age, where social media has become a primary resource for learning the Dīn. Abbreviation is strictly forbidden. In this century, not only the ordinary person but even the so-called “learned” and “intellectuals” are guilty of this practice.

‎Imām an-Nawawī, the great Muḥaddith, states:

‎“It is praiseworthy (mustaḥab) for a person writing Ḥadīth that (…) at the mentioning of Rasūlullāh ﷺ, he writes ‘Ṣallā Llāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam’ in full and not merely using abbreviations, and neither sufficing on one of the two, i.e. Ṣalāt & Salām.” [Sharḥ Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, 1/39]

‎Shaykh al-Islām Imām Jalāl ad-Dīn al-Suyūṭī said that the person who first introduced the practice of using abbreviation for Ṣalawāt had his hands cut off. The conclusion is that it is not permissible and the one who indulges in this act is stripped from a very great benefit and has lost a great reward.

The Dua of Musa (AS):

رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنْزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ

Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khairin faqir

‘My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need.’ (Surah Al-Qasas, 24)

The Dua of Yunus (AS):

لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِين

La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin

‘There is no god worthy of worship except You. Glory be to You! I have certainly done wrong.’ (Surah Al-Anbiya, 87)

The Dua of Nuh (AS):

رَبِّ أَنِّي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانْتَصِرْ

Rabbi inni maghlubun fan-tass-ssir

‘I am helpless, so help me!’ (Surah Al-Qamar, 10)

The Dua of Ayub (AS):

أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنْتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

Innee massaniyad durru wa Anta arhamur raahimeen

‘Indeed, I have been touched with adversity, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.’ (Surah Al-Anbiya, 83)

The Dua of Muhammad (SAW):

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الْهَمِّ والْحُـزْنِ وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ

Allaahumma ‘innee ‘a’oothu bika minal-hammi walhazani, wal’ajzi walkasali, walbukhli waljubni, wa dhala’id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijaal.

‘O Allah, I take refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being overpowered by men.’ (Sunan an-Nasa’I 5449)

so simple. so obvious. yet so many of us forget. when you have a problem that you’re struggling with, when something seems impossible, “tell Allah.” simply tell Him. whether it’s mentally, out loud, or in a duaa, tell Him, because He will hear you. after all, He is the All-Seeing, the All-Hearing.

there’s nothing more comforting and peaceful than knowing that you’ve done all you can and that you’ve left it in the hands of Allah. in the hands of the One who lets the air reach your lungs and the One who created Heaven and Hell. because surely He is the only one whom you can count on to never let you down, the one you can count on to give you the best outcome no matter what happens.

“And whoever puts their trust in Allah, then He ˹alone˺ is sufficient for them. Certainly Allah achieves His Will. Allah has already set a destiny for everything.” (65:3)

Our world is becoming increasingly filled with distraction. Information moves faster, louder, and brighter than ever before. Entertainment, social media, and marketing have never been so prevalent. They beg for our attention and our focus. In so doing, our minds are diverted from more important work.

However, these distractions are easy to notice. After all, the battle plays out in front of us each day.

Far more detrimental to our lives are the subtle distractions that quietly surround us. They are not announced with blinking lights or beeping sounds. In fact, they have become so commonplace and ever-present, we hardly even notice their existence. But these distractions take residence in our mind and wreak havoc on our pursuits. And in the end, it keeps us from living our lives to its greatest potential.

"Maybe Allah doesn't tell you about the future because He doesn't want you to find peace in that information, He wants you to find peace in your relationship with Him."

There are things we can control and things we can't control. You can control yourself. You can control your input and output.
