Nina Simone sings âAint Got No, I Got Lifeâ from the musical Hair
London, 1968
âHairâ - The Musical - poster - 1968.
why HAIR is an underrated musical
yâall get ready for some straight FACTS
⢠it follows a tribe of young hippies in the Vietnam war, putting on a show for the audience. slowly, things start to interrupt the performance, such as one of the members getting drafted into the Vietnam war, branching off into its own beautiful story.
⢠the 2009 revival featured amazing actors such as Gavin Creel, Caissie Levy, Will Swenson, and more
⢠most of the characters have very fluid and unlabeled sexualities. the whole show consists of the whole hippie tribe basically just making out with each other.
⢠seriously itâs wild
⢠the character Berger has a line in his introductionâ âis it a boy or a girl?â (referring to himself) this has lead to several productions of Hair where Berger is non-binary!
⢠the characters omgâ
⢠THE THEMES ARE SO IMPORTANT TO WHAT IS HAPPENING AROUND US TODAY
⢠especially now, Iâve found itâs so easy to see yourself in the characters and how they stand up each day and face the world
⢠THE MUSIC OHHHHH MY GOD
⢠Aquarius? a jam. Donna? that shit slaps. I Got Life? a fat bop. Where Do I Go? Iâm crying Walking in Space? my wig is in orbit. Three Five Zero Zero? drag me to timbuktu and back.
⢠The Flesh Failures / Let the Sunshine In has to be one of THE most chilling songs in theatre history
⢠there is so much audience interaction
⢠I just love this show so muchj
Happy #LoveTheatreDay! Â
