“HAAAAAH???” It shocked him (to say the least, really) that she was mimicking him like that. Surely, people rather would avoid talking to him altogether… and if they had to or chose to, they’d usually pick a respectful tone so that nobody would get harmed. She surely had the guts and acted ballsy like that – simply mocking him in a way. But he did not feel mocked, rather proud about how people were putting one plus one together and saw that he oozed Y A N K E E out of the skin, having it bump in the blood through his veins and what not.
It completely flew right above his head that it had been her tactic to make him move the book away; if anything, he was just bothered by the idea that someone thought he would be into that trash. But if he had known that it was her sneaky way to get through to the man like that, he’d probably be more than impressed and actually respectful towards her – respectful in his own (very odd) Yasutomo way, really. He’d still be rude and blunt, that was just in his personal traits. “Nah. They’re flashy and weird. It’s like teaching people that only freaks with weird talents can be heroes. And people who have a dark and sinister side to them are automatically the villains. Can’t get in on that buzz, it’s really fucked up.” Explaining his point of view on her, Arakita wasn’t even so sure why he started becoming so determined to chit-chat with her; the fuck’s wrong with him? Clearly, that was her way to sweet-talk him into buying something. What a witch.
A look of shock spread on his face and he looked creeped out while he looked towards Onoda and back to that redhead. “The fuck’s up with you? Her? AND ME??? You’ve gotta be KIDDING me!!!” Waving it off quickly, he huffed. “I make sure she won’t get bullied – I look scary enough to have people walk circles around me. But I guess, there’s exceptions for fools who really don’t know their places.” The tall man leaned in as he was throwing some shade at the woman, making it obvious that he meant her by said fool. Though, it was just his odd way of trying to show off his scary side, really. He was not the type to harm women… just avoiding them at all costs (at least emotionally). Standing back up tall again, he shrugged. “Guys like me don’t do GIRLFRIENDS. They’re just expensive, and the moment they find a better cash cow, they’re off with the tailwind. I only ever need my loyal gang, guys like us stick together faithfully and work with passion, heart and soul. Girlfriends are for weaklings who love to get shoved around and lied to by bitches. I ain’t the one.” He thus indicated to not being interested in such a thing – as much as he liked chit-chatting with that woman, he also knew that he just as much enjoyed doing the same thing to his ex-girlfriends and none of them were true blue.
Upon her question whether or not to leave him alone, and him just needing to say the words, he chose to remain quiet. There was no need to tell her to fuck off, when clearly, they had to pay at the counter once Sakamichi was done with her overly exaggerated and long way of picking her manga. More so, he was not out here to pick a fight with a small girl. Surely, as long as she was not telling him ‘not to do this’ and ‘not to do that’, he’d be fine chatting. The only line he drew was with people who thought they were in the position to dictate to him what was best to be done. There was always someone looking into the perspective and making a neutral choice —- but that was not the way Arakita wanted it. He wanted it the hard way, he wanted to learn by making mistakes, he really did not care to fall flat on his face, he’d just get up and do it better next time. Guidance was something he really despised.
When Onoda made it clear that she wasn’t sure if she had it all, Arakita merely leaned down and stared at her.
“You kiddin’ me, right? You bluffin’. LOOK AT THE PILE OF MANGA. If you wanna have me carry them for you because you whine about how heavy they are, here’s the newsflash: I WON’T BE CAUGHT DEAD WITH MANGA. YOU BUY IMPULSIVELY.” Almost scolding her like an older brother, perhaps their relationship must’ve been a little clearer to that Shinkai now; it was not new to him to be around younger girls – he had two sisters of his own, whom he raised as much as he could as the oldest son. However, their worst traits stuck to him regardless, and now he was being just as pushy to Sakamichi as he had to be to Yua and Yui. “In a few weeks you’ll tell me how you hardly have money for groceries ALL BECAUSE YOU BOUGHT A PILE OF GARBAGE MANGA TODAY. Think more like your age, Onoda-chan.”
It took him off-guard when she merely laughed at his apology than actually say something. Furrowing his brows deeply, he glared at her, though taking the pack of cigarettes and ignoring the change, indicating that he wanted her to keep it. Onoda was stubborn about it and excused herself, leaving the stack of manga on the counter as she decided to go grab the other ones that she loved to read but felt as if she should not be buying them. Yasutomo only rolled his eyes and leaned on the counter, looking sideways, out of the large window of the store to peek at the people passing by, guessing that if the woman had better things to do than being talkative with him, he’d just kill the time like that.
while she knew that boys like him could certainly be troublesome, she was sure that this man couldn’t be so bad -- after all, he was here with a nerdy - looking girl that was buying manga. how much trouble could he cause with her around? it was usually those that came off as rough that had the best hearts underneath it all, and frankly she liked a guy that looked tough. it wasn’t as if she would try to pick a fight with him, or anything careless like that, but a bit of friendly teasing was a way to lighten the mood -- rather than keeping uptight honorifics. her parents always did tell her that she was too casual when it came to addressing strangers. luckily for her, she had a charm that kept most from getting angry with her.
generally she was into girly stuff, but in japan super heroes were all the rage. many young children’s shows revolved around heroes that posed as good role models for children. “ えー, but what about heroes like sailor moon? she’s just a normal girl that likes snacks & naps, that’s the kind of hero that i aspire to be.” now, the other didn’t look like someone that was into such a girlish show, but with his company, she doubted that he didn’t know a thing about a manga or two. no matter how rough & tough he looked on the exterior, she’d be damned if she couldn’t find something childish and cute that he liked. everyone had some kind of interest that they deemed embarrassing and locked away. she didn’t think that his would necessarily be anime, but . . . there had to be something. “that’s true, but villains are スーパクール.” she said, perhaps showing off a little bit too much of her dorky side. usually, she was more reserved & lady - like, but with someone like him around -- she felt as if putting on a face and acting mature would only irritate him. it was easy to see through such a façade if you were perceptive enough.
“あら、あらー” placing a hand on her cheek, she tried to suppress a smile -- while he was pretending to be angry about such an assumption, it was clear that she had said something to embarrass him. despite the fact that he hinted that shinkai was a fool, she was completely unfazed by his harsh words. if she was such a fool, she doubted that he would have wasted so much time talking to her. placing a finger against plush, pink - stained lips, she looked as if she were thinking hard about his words. “but, isn’t saying that all girls are simply using you the same as saying that all people who have a dark side to them are all villains?” it wasn’t hard to guess that the other had some bad experiences with women, otherwise he wouldn’t have such strong words to say about them. the redhead was a bit taken aback though, since most men in gangs were constantly trying to track down pretty girls to show off like accessories.
once the girl ran off towards the manga section once more, looking as if she had to make the decision of a lifetime, she leaned against the counter. propping her head up with elbows on the counter, she assumed that ignoring the statement was as good of an answer as she was going to get. “i’m shinkai by the way, but you can just call me hayato.” to most, offering up her first name would have seemed rash, but she just preferred it. sharing the same family name with her sister only made it confusing when they were together, so she was used to giving her first name in order to make a clear distinction between the two of them.
watching him scold the woman as she left like an older brother was pretty funny -- perhaps she should have asked if they were siblings before dating . . . but she didn’t get the feeling that they were related. both had two very different features. it was more likely that they were girlfriend & boyfriend, but clearly both assumptions were wrong. “so, what kind of gang are you in?” after hearing his bit about how he only trusted the other men in the gang, she couldn’t help but be curious about what kind of people they really were. “i bet your boss is a scary guy, ねー.” hayato said in her usual airy tone. she didn’t know very much about gangs, since she was a little too girly to be considered as a girlfriend for someone like that. while she was curvy, she didn’t wear things that were ‘sexy’ so to say -- she preferred to wear girlish things like sundresses & the likes. not to say that she wouldn’t suit such a style, but it wasn’t something that she was into.
