3X3: Three concerts in three weeks
Week 1: Jonathan Johanson
My brother, in some unknown way, found a free event where this swedish singer, Jonathan Johansson (that was our week’s obsession at that time) would be performing. The event was sponsored by Grolsch, a beer company, and their idea was to promote a new singer with the help of an established artist, in this case Jonathan.
The place was really cool: it had a lounge with a bar and a DJ playing. When the actual concert started, we went into a tiny and crowded room. The sound system was way too loud, to the point that we could not differ one song from another. The music sounded more like noise, as if the band was tripping the whole time. Jonathan has a lot of potencial but we were pretty disappointed after the concert. it could have been so much better.
Week 2: Brandon Flowers
Brandon’s concert was an odd experience.
For starters, I almost didn’t get in since I was underaged and my parents weren’t with me (my older brother was). But seeing my desperate look the bouncer let us in. The only problem was that we would have to watch the concert from above, in this room that made me feel like we were at the screening of some movie in the theaters. It was terrible, I wouldn’t be able to shout or fangirl.
I was a little disappointed with the performance. Brandon, even though extremely charming and friendly, he didn’t seem to have a bond with the city or the people there. Though he was super friendly and even sang happy birthday to a guy that was turning 40, and Read My Mind as a surprise. To be honest the best parts were when he sang old songs from The Killers. There were a few songs that I liked in the album, but surprisingly they did not sound really good live. A shame, because The Killers ALWAYS sound much better live.
“What a shame” is the expression that suits the whole experience. Brandon has so much potential, but a large sum of the album was not that interesting and neither was his performance.
Week 3: Adam Tensta and Erik Hassle
This, of all three experiences, was the coolest and weirdest one! My dear friend Ida and I went to this live session/ live broadcasting made by the Swedish Radio (P3), where two swedish artists performed.
Because we arrived late, we didn’t quite know what was happening, and it took us a long time to understand that we were actually listening to the radio, but live! Adam Tensta was rapping on the stage, and though I had no idea who he was, I found his performance amusing and actually liked his music (I’m not a big fan of rap, specially swedish rap). After three or four songs, he was interviewed and then there was a break, when we could grab something to drink, while the ads were playing.
Erik hassle then entered the scene and sang songs from his latest EP “Somebody’s Party”, that had a nice and interesting beat. The only problem was that the lyrics didn’t seem to work with the rest of the song. They were way to cheesy, uninteresting and plain. The thing with Erik is that all of his lyrics are like this, but the difference is that his preview works sounded better because the lyrics got along with the song, in a way that even though it sounded cheesy, it sounded right. But when listening to this new work you expect the lyrics to be more introspective and in a way (warning: this will sound cliché), deeper and with some kind of symbolism, but instead it is just him repeating over and over about how he gets emotionally needy when his “baby” isn’t around.

Arabella
For a while ago we were given the task to illustrate a text. It could be anything, a poem, a quote. “And when she needs to shelter from reality she takes a dip in my daydreams” was the fragment I chose from an Arctic Monkeys’ song, Arabella. Every time I listened to the song, that sentence got stuck in my head. After listening to it a few times, the inspiration came and I started having thousands…

Some days ago I was tagged by usemymind (thank you!) to go to shuffle in my music library and write down the first 15 songs that show up (without cheating), and then tag 10 people. I decided to change a bit, so I won’t tag anyone, but feel free to do it if you want :), and will link the song to it’s video on youtube and then talk a little about the song/artist. Let’s begin!
1. Excuses - The Morning Benders, a lovely feel good baroque pop song that always has the power to make me calm down
2. Tempo de Pipa - Cícero, a calm and beautiful song by the talented Cícero, an alternative rock /MPB (brazilian popular music) singer
3. Mitt hjärta blöder - Veronica Maggio, one of my favourite songs from Sweden’s Indie Pop Princess’ third album Satan i Gatan
4. Heroes - David Bowie, the beautiful and eternal song featured in one of my favourite cinematographic moments (the last scene in The Perks of Being a Wallflower)
5. Hädanefter - Veronica Maggio, another song by Sweden’s Indie Pop Princess
6. Tiger Striped Sky - Roo Panes, a soft and heartwarming song by the beautiful folk singer Roo Panes
7. Artifice - SOHN, an electronic/pop song with a really cool beat
8. Setembro - Profissão de Urubu, a feel-good song with a “beachy” side, by a promising brazilian soft/indie rock band
9. Unfinished Business - White Lies, one of my favourite songs (after Death) by the english post-punk band <3
10. The Sad Facts - Cambriana, another promising brazilian band with a lot of potencial to grow and be a world-famous alternative rock band <3
11. Who Needs You - The Orwells, a rock song that sounds more like garage rock <3
12. Young Blood - The Naked And Famous, a “coming-of-age”/feel good song by the best indie electronic band, almost a classic <3
13. Cigarettes & Lonliness - Chet Faker, my go-to song when I need to concentrate and clear my mind <3
14. Battles - Hudson Taylor, a soulful song by the irish folk duo Hudson Taylor
15. This is War - Adam Tensta, one of the songs from my favourite swedish rapper’s new album

Some weeks ago I downloaded Soundcloud, and, to my surprise, I found it extremely helpful as a tool to discover new and independent music!
This playlist was the result of my first days using the app. I found some F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C bands and I could not be more satisfied <3
