i started work on a...VISUAL NOVEL i put it on patreon but the rough draft first export everything is place holder except the text is available to download just for testing for frees. i wont do paid stuff until later. its not all of the first chapter yet but it is like...half of it? i previously tried to make my oc's story into a comic but i just didn't like it. So i used a few of the sketches for the place holder images.

There are people stealing 3d models
It’s not new. People steal all the time. I’m just so saddened by the mindset of these people. I just came across a facebook group who goes out and find paid models to share between each of them. They have recieved DMCA takedown notices from google drive and think they are being persecuted. Many if not all of their files are stolen and they know it. They really don’t see how stealing work from artist is wrong.

I managed to get in and they are doing things like encrypting the link with a decoder to hide the url. Why do that unless you know you’re in the wrong? They claim they bought the models and own them so sharing is fine but I don’t see them posting proof of purchase. Some of these guys claim that because the creator does not own the IP they deserve no credit for making the model and do not own the 3d file. They give up all rights when they decide to do fanart.
To me it feels more like they are using these as excuses to not pay for the hardwork of artists. If you are a creator these people should make you mad.
The guy who made the facebook page even has a picture of lady justice as the front page image. He truly believes he’s a modern day robin hood and enacting justice on these asshole artists stealing money from big studios like marvel and time warner. I tried reasoning with him but it’s clear he thinks all artists who charge for their work should only charge for original character art only.
Most 3d modelers aren’t making much money from 3d models being sold online. The only reason I can come up with is that he doesn’t like feeling guilty stealing so he’s come up with this story about how these artists are thieves so it’s okay to steal from them.
I’m just really angry that he’s rallied so many people to his side. He has over 1000 people calling digital artists thieves for making fan art and trying to make a living. Even if you it’s a huge legal grey area to sell fanart you don’t have to buy from them and they still own the original files. Damnit fuck this guy.

I’ve heard a lot of people say if it’s a smaller manufacturer theyre worried that the moment they dare tell anyone else who they use they’re gonna get more popular and their prices will go up or they’ll be forced to start making stuff quicker for more people which will lower the quality. (But really I think it’s mainly excuses for people to keep all their ‘sooper secret artist supplierz’ to themselves .)
You would think they would want to help a smaller manufacturer grow instead of hiding them and then their customer base becoming small until they cant support themselves. Maybe they would ever recognize the familiar struggle of under pricing to get customers.
I really want to put together a list of suppliers for people because I dislike the greedy attitude some if not most artists have about this. It wouldnt be so difficult for artists just starting to source suppliers if people shared. We could get more merch that isnt just a million acrylic charms or pins. It could help impoverished artists get some money with their art and ideas.
