I feel so fortunate to have been able to take a vacation this past week, and blessed that I got to share some of life's adventures with my best friend for realsies (#bffr). From Sunset boulevard to Disney drive, it was an amazing trip that we'll remember and cherish for years to come. One roadtrip down, many more to go!!! Anywhere But Here
Have you ever just wanted to be somewhere else?
Like, when you think about waking up early, making some coffee, and reading a book outside but then realize you live in suburbia and the neighbor's dogs might eat you or you could get rust poisoning from your janky patio furniture??
Or like when you're just irritated and don't want to be around people?
Or when you get stuck in a car with a fighting couple and would literally rather walk home than sit in the tense silence?
Times like these is when teleporting would really come in handy.
To be able to transport yourself to a wrap-around porch with a porch swing and a cozy blanket, or in an old mustang on a back road driving to nowhere, or in a place with a bunch of fun, happy, care-free people...wouldn't that be convenient!
Unfortunately, Hayden Christensen is the only person I know who can teleport and, I don't think those kinds of things are transferrable.
So instead of constantly wishing to be somewhere else, with someone else, doing something else, we have to choose to be content with where we're at. Not content with complacency, but content with being happy, with being sad, with longing, with fulfillment--because life gives us all of these; not necessarily when or how we want, but it gives all the same. I can choose to mope and whine and be discontent or unhappy, but it won't change my circumstances, and it will only make my daydreams seem more out of reach.
So instead, I daydream, and I wish, and I hope, and I let myself feel. I let myself be alone, and then I surround myself with good people and good things, because we only get one life, and its up to us to make the most of it--every sad, happy, lonely, fulfilling moment.
Maybe tonight my movie of choice will be Anywhere But Here. Natalie Portman and Susan Sarandon are great examples of how bad things can get, and how happy I am to have the life that I do ;)
