The instant Damian put his hand on Daniel's shoulder, he knew he'd made a mistake.
Danny tensed, defensiveness and anger and a touch of fear evident in every line of his body. Before Damian could let go or make ammends, Danny's fist slammed into his face hard.
Damian fell back, landing on his buttocks, more out of surprise than pain. Though the hard landing jolted up his spine and sent shockwaves of pain through his nose.
Above him, the flash of anger and fear drained from Daniel to be replaced with horror. The other boy's eyes were wide, and he held his hands over his mouth. "Oh, ancients, I'm so sorry!"
Assured there'd be no more attacks from that quarter, Damian reached up to touch the area around his nose. He kept from wincing as the gentle prodding sent more jolts of pain. The blood was forcing him to breathe through his mouth. Definitely broken, then. Father would keep him off patrol for at least a few days, probably a week.
Daniel knelt in front of him. "Shit, shit. I'm so sorry."
Daniel reached out and brushed blessedly cool fingers across the skin next to his nose. Damian couldn't hold back the sigh of relief at the sensation. Was Daniel a meta? Normal human fingers should not feel that cold. With his other hand, he held out a wad of paper towels to help stop the spread of blood.
"What is— Oh my god!" Their teacher had finally noticed the commotion and come over to check. "What happened here?" she demanded.
"I didn't— he snuck up behind me," started Daniel.
Damian interjected before Daniel could get himself in more trouble. "It was entirely my fault, Mrs. Jamison. As...Danny said," he forced himself to use the diminutive, "I approached from behind and grabbed him to get his attention. This is Gotham. Of course that triggered an instinctive fight or flight response."
"Be that as it may," responded Mrs. Jamison, anger clear in her voice, "It is not an appropriate response in a school. Danny, you will report straight to the principal's office—"
"I want him to escort me to the nurse," interrupted Damian.
"I will— what?" she asked.
A sentiment Danny echoed. "You want me to what?"
Damian wanted to roll his eyes, but the broken nose was making face movements difficult. He scowled as best he could behind a wad of paper towels and with blood coating his face. "I wish for Danny to escort me to the nurse's office," he repeated. "It is policy that an injured party cannot go to the nurse alone, is it not?" He waited for their teacher's hesitant nod. "Then, as the injured party, I feel it is only reasonable that I select who accompanies me on the journey, and I want that person to be Danny."
"You want me?" asked Danny in surprise.
Blood was dripping down his throat now, so rather than talk more, Damian simply gave a single nod. He leaned forward to hopefully keep any more blood from his throat and stomach.
After a moment the teacher gave in. "Very well. But be certain this is not the last you'll be hearing of this, Danny. I expect you to report to the principal as soon as Damian is settled with the nurse and his father has been called."
"Yes, ma'am," said Danny.
Damian already began making plans to help get Danny out of trouble. Anyone who could punch hard and fast enough to break Damian's nose was someone worth paying attention to. And no other student in this forsaken school could boast such status.
They had a group project in English coming up, perhaps Damian could arrange for them to be partners.
Damian let Danny help him to his feet, though insisted on walking under his own power when the other boy tried to support him.
Once out of the classroom, Danny asked, "Why did you defend me?"
Rather than respond directly, Damian answered with his own question, "Was it the way I grabbed your shoulder or the use of your full name that triggered you?"
Danny let out a harsh breath. "Oh. Um. Kinda both? My godfather is a fruitloop. He's the only one who consistently calls me Daniel, and he likes to grab my shoulder or arm or whatever. Make me do what he wants me to do. I just..."
"Thought I was him for a split second."
"Yeah."
"I apologize. I will not use that name again and will be sure to approach from within your line of sight going forward."
"I'm the one who broke your nose! Why are you apologizing to me?"
"Because it was my fault. My father will ensure the school does not punish you."
Danny let out a surprised laugh. "You're a strange kid, Damian."
Damian didn't bother replying. He was strange by the standards of American teenagers. They arrived at the nurse's office and he knocked.
The door opened and Damian winced at the high pitched, "Oh my god!" the nurse let out.
He was ushered in and set on an examination bed. Before Danny could leave, he grabbed his hand. "Stay until my father gets here."
Danny hesitated, but after a few long moments, said, "Okay."
He knows who Damian is and where he comes from. He knows even the rest of his children are rarely successful at hitting Damian, more so hitting him hard enough to break his nose. Yes, it happened a few times, but then, his children are vigilante children.
This kid, awkwardly shifting in his chair in the nurse's office, is a civilian kid, as far as he knows.
Or is he?..
Damian: Father, what do you have there?
Bruce, closing all the tabs on Danny on the BatComputer: a smoothie Nothing.
Damian: Very well.
Damian, over lunch, out of the blue: Tell me if any of Gotham vigilantes pay you a visit.
Danny, half-bite through a sandwich and confused: Why? I mean, sure, but... Are you a fan?
Damian gets attacked by league, with them saying ‘your brother needs you’ but Damian is like what? Talia shows him Danny sick in bed, Damian is under chains, because Danny needs a heart transplant, or at least of a clone. And they are going to force Damian to give it.
Danny disappeared at a very young age, then got in the accident and reappeared to league shorty after, getting recaptured by the league when Damian was ten, so Talia sent Damian to Bruce so he wouldn’t be hurt/killed by/for the replacement.
Danny was being coerced into returning, guilted about family to act. He agrees and returns, trains etc, has a Lazarus pit exposure and the vicinity is slowly weakening him, until Ra’s and Talia finally realize he is dying from the portal accident, his heart is giving out, they give more Lazarus water but it makes it worse.
When Damian is rescued they also take him to the Batcave unconscious, until he wakes up when Damian is nearby ands snatches his katana holding it to Damian’s neck, shouts in Arabic/League dialec, “Where am I!? Tell me or I kill him and find out!”
They all try to calm him, first using league dialect(those that know it) but it only serves to prove to Danny that he isn’t safe, until he hears a side comment in English and the slight surprise allows Damian to escape, fighting for the sword a bit until Danny pushes Damian away and keeps the sword, still aimed and ready, but is staggering, supports himself with the blade and grips his chest. Damian is worried about the blade, but Bruce holds him back when Danny stops them all from helping, until he finally collapses, blade clattering, unconscious and slightly gasping, holding a hand to his chest.
They realize he really is sick….and they don’t know how to fix it.
Clockwork had been summoned and revived and is now stuck in a human body with little control of his powers he was able to send a message to Danny to come to find him but has to make sure that he is not caught by the justice league if he is caught then he would be distorted
A young Dick Grayson as Robin gets found by Phantom after a mission and, excited to see another older superhero, asks for some tips, not expecting Phantom to pull a Peter B. Parker.
He was an odd boy with white hair and red eyes, and he was part of a separate traveling act that occasionally crossed paths with Haly’s Circus.
His real name was Danny, but he was often just called Phantom, his “stage name”
They would spend hours talking and playing every time their pathscrossed, and Phantom would always smile sadly and run off when Freakshow—Circus Gothica’s Ringmaster—called for him.
Phantom was going off to Star City this time, and Dick was going with his Circus to Gotham, they wouldn’t see each other for a few months at least, so Dick ran forward when Freakshow turned up and tackled Phantom in a hug.
“See you soon.?”
He got a hug in return as Phantom nodded against his shoulder—He never liked talking around the Gothic Ringmaster—before he was pushed off and playfully shooed away.
He was a little sad to leave his friend again, but maybe he’d get to see the Batman while in Gotham at least. He’d always see his friend again once they left Gotham.
.
.
.
And then his parents fell.
—
Dick hadn’t seen Danny since, and he’d honestly let thoughts of his old friend fade to the back of his mind.
…That is, until he was looking into those bright red eyes nearly sixteen years later in the middle of busting a heist.
Or: Danny is a meta, not ghost, and he was kidnapped from Amity by Freakshow at a young age.
Danny and Dick met while in their respective traveling circuses, but they hadn’t seen each other since the week before the murder of Dick’s parents.
When they do meet, however, it’s not exactly the friendly reunion that Dick imagined years ago.
Something strange was happening in the world, something that even the League would not have prevented. It seemed that the United States government had been fighting things they didn't stand a chance with, and this almost ended in disaster if it wasn't for the kindness of what they were dealing with. The details were highly classified and encrypted so Batman didn't know the details and it was frustrating him.
All that trouble resulted in Justice League Dark working steadily with the "Paranormal Department", there wasn't much information on their members and they worked in the shadows (Bruce wasn't amused, he needed contingency plans) but Zatara claimed they were excellent allies, despite their strange use of modern technology.
Bruce didn't know what they were about, or what agreement the president had made, but he didn't trust this "new department". They could betray them at any second. That's why when Constantine informed him that they would take over the "Lazarus pits" he flatly refused. Apparently his refusal didn't matter at the end since the "Department" got jurisdiction over the case.
Team Phantom, which was now headquartered in downtown Amity Park (and had many new members like Paulina and Dash) was having fun pissing off the Bat. While Danny had made an agreement with the government to deal with threats from the Realms, one of the clauses was not to tell the heroes they existed (After years of living with the Fenton's Danny was not amused that anyone knew ways to eliminate him, Clockwork was backup enough). Sam thought it was childish but didn't stop him.
Sam handled all the legal stuff, but it seemed like they had jurisdiction over all the cases that interested them (more than JL, since they were an elite team in that field), and no one could reveal their identities, which relieved Danny greatly.
Their main job was to send the ghosts home and close the rifts, plus deal with demons, or creatures that came out of said rifts. Easy enough for them, but probably extremely risky if you were inexperienced. Honestly, since they dealt with the GIW themselves, Danny didn't trust the heroes, however JLD was fine.
Danny hopped from foot to foot as he waited, constantly shifting his weight about. The store smelt strongly of herbs and spices. There were crystals on the walls and other things strewn about the area. It all looked so... cheesy. fake.
Makes for a pretty good coverup, he'd have to say.
With the sound of movement behind the counter, Danny stopped wriggling about and stood still. He leaned towards the counter and crossed his arms on top of it, his face already breaking into a grin as the person made their way to the front.
"What is it this time? I was slee- Oh." A cranky accented voice said as they made their way to the counter. They paused after making eye contact with him, before pulling a face.
Danny smirked at the man, before tossing the papers he'd been holding onto the counter.
Constantine didn't even try to protest, instead leaning forwards onto the counter as well to look over the papers. He let out a whistle as he shuffled them about, flipping through grainy photos from surveillance cameras.
"A big one, eh?" Constantine asks, flipping to a different photo before pausing. He groans, before letting the paper relax in his hands so that Danny can see the top of it as it curls. "And the bats are involved. You're not serious, are you?"
"Serious as the dead, Connie." Danny replies, pulling the picture from his hands. It's a grainy night vision camera photo of what looks to be a group of people in costume making their way down an alleyway covered in bright decals. "And I'd rather I don't actually cross paths with them. You can talk with them all you want, but I'd rather follow their lead."
"And you think they won't notice you?" The blonde asks. He's pulled all of the papers into a messy pile in his hands. Danny doesn't respond with an answer, instead winking before handing over the image for the pile.
He turns and begins to walk out, Constantine letting out a tired sigh as he moves around the counter to follow. "I'm going to regret this, aren't I?"
"Yeah. It'll do you some good, though. Wouldn't be in this position if you weren't so fond of making bets. Maybe this'll teach you to stop making them." Danny replies, stepping out of the store and holding the door open for the older man.
"Yeah yeah. Consequences of my actions, and all that. Can we just get a move on?" Constantine grumbles, pulling a cigarette from somewhere in his trench coat as he looks about the street.
Danny rolls his eyes. And the cigarette rolls up into a ball in between Constantine's fingers, before rolling out of existence.
Danny moves to Gotham and the batfam picks up on the weird guy who sometimes glows green. So they all try to interrogate him but instead of taking it seriously he just treats it like a casual conversation and responds to the invasive questions with the oddest shit possible.
Batman *standing in the dark corner like a demented Halloween decoration*: are you a meta?
Danny: nope
Batman: so I'm supposed to believe the green energy beams are normal human abilities?
Danny *half his body in the fridge fighting something*: yeah my hometown wasn't super strict on zoning laws
Dick *opening up Danny's Starbucks tumbler*: so,,, green ooze‽
Danny: it's better warm, let it thaw a little.
Jason: what do you know about the Lazarus Pits?
Danny *with a gun to his head*: sorry man, armpits don't really do it for me.
Jason *trying not to laugh and ruin the creep factor*: no, in Nanda Parbattm
Danny: where's that, Arizona?
Stephanie: so you're not gonna like, drag Gotham into hell are you?
Danny: been there done that 0/10 would not reccomend
Stephanie: good enough for me.
Damian *with a katana trying to look scary*: what is your association with the league of assassins?
Danny *on three hours of sleep*: ass, ass, ins.
Damian: what?
Danny: that's how you spell it.
Tim: so, friends with any questionably immortal creepy old men?
DpxDC vague concept.. The normal what if Damian and Daniel was brothers.
EXCEPT what if when the Fentons adopted/fostered Danny, they thought he was possessed by a ghost because of the pit rage this feral child had.
So they managed to successfully cure Danny of it- but because of it and being revived from the pit Danny lost all his memories of the league.
He didn't even know he was adopted. Until ding dong years later finds out and is so confuse.
Jazz like OH right.. you did try to kill me when mom and dad took you in.
Danny: I DID WHAT?!
Jazz: Mom said you were trying to assert your rightful place or something like that.
Sam: Pfft! No way Danny could be that scary-
Parents have photos. Danny was indeed terrifying the first few photos they had of him.
Also actually had this idea of the concept.. from like What if Danny ended up in Gotham because parents doing a convention and had to be saved by Batman and Robin..
Only for Damian to recognize Danny and start investigating to see if this really is who he think it is. He keeps it from his siblings though they all know Damian is up to something.
Damian gets his answer even after blowing up the machine from it trying to read Danny's dna sample. Damian then warns Danny to leave Gotham- doesn't realize at first how much Danny remembers or not.
But once its clear he doesn't, he just really strains Danny needs to leave. Damian fearing Talia and the League of Assassins will find out Danny's alive and well. Though never having a close bond due to the nature of the league with Danny, he didn't want his brother to be subjected to it again.
(Damian only having realized how much he regrets not being an actual brother to Danny after living with the bats and learning what family relationships are suppose to be like.)
Danny finding out he's adopted- and also a deep-rooted fear rises as something is telling him to really heed Damian (Robin at the time)'s warning. Only hard part is getting his parents to leave when they're about to reveal their grand achievement to the world.
So Danny has to juggle sabotaging his parents' portal they're making for the convention, avoiding being kidnapped, figure out who's after his parents invention, and his own turmoil (of being adopted, not remembering who he is, and fear of where he came from)
Of course turns out the League of Assassins and Court of Owls are already interested in Fentons' invention.. more importantly the ectoplasm that powers it.
Danny really has far too much on his plate. While Damian tries to keep it secret the entire time that Danny is his brother from the other bats as they try to figure out why the assassins and owls are interested and what they plan to do with the Fentons and their inventions.
explaining things poorly again LOL my mind been rummaging this idea all day especially after I read Noise and Light by TheWritingOwl last night on Ao3 >w< hehe.
The sound the railing made as he swung his feet was kind of annoying. It was scratchy and whiny. It wasn’t too loud but it still grated on his advanced hearing.
It also alerted the red helmeted man in the alley below to his presence. Danny watched silently (except for the squeaky metal sound from his legs swaying between the bars) as the man pointed his gun quickly up to the fire escape dangling above him.
He hesitated. A man with good morals then. To second guess shooting what looks to be a normal civilian. Danny smiles lightly down at the man, though he’s unsure if it can be seen due to the dim lighting of the alley.
“You sure react fast for a dead guy.” He says softly. The hesitant hand holding the gun steadies. The mask on the man gives nothing away but the tenseness that returns to his body speaks a thousand words.
“Who are you!” The man yells up towards him. Danny stops kicking his feet before resting his chin on the railing. Rumors in Gotham spread fast. And Gotham had taken to whispering about him.
Whispers too quiet to reach the bats it seems.
“I’m the neighborhood ghost. Aren’t you a bit far from Crime Alley?” He asks, watching as the man reacts. His body does all the reacting actually, his head tilting to the side and his neck leaning forwards. Confusion maybe? Disbelief? Danny was never that good at reading body language.
The man below goes to say something, his beginning breath filtering through whatever voice changer he has in his mask. In the second between him breathing in and getting a word out, the world shakes.
Both of them snap their heads to the large burst of light and sound further into the streets. It just barely peaks into the alley, but everyone could feel it for miles. An explosion, probably. A large one.
Danny grips on the sleeves of Alfred's uniform, standing behind him as he opened the door to the Wayne manor.
"After you, master Danny." Alfred chastised, gently pushing Danny towards the door.
Bruce greets them as he stepped into the home, and Danny smiled upon seeing him. He walks closer to him and gave him a small hug, which made Bruce chuckle and stroke his hair. "Welcome to the family, Danny."
They talk and talk as they walked through the manor halls; mostly just Bruce talking about the other kids and his family while the younger occasionally comments and nods along.
They reach the main room where the other Waynes are waiting to meet him.
"Can I say something mildly offensive?" Danny blurts out the moment he stepped into the room.
"Tt, If you know it's offensive why would you say it?" Damian rolled his eyes from the couch.
The younger male shrugs, "I don't know, if you don't respond with a reasonable answer I'll make a run for it," he answered, taking a step back to prove his point.
Everyone is in mild alert with the gesture, but stayed calm through the whole thing.
"Alright, then. What is it?" Bruce asked, meeting the younger male's eyes.
A pit had opened right underneath Jason and he fell through to a bunch of different aliens surrounding him, they started to get closer and are talking Jason gets ready for a fight but all of a sudden they stop talking and are no longer surrounding him one of them step closer they seemed to be constantly changing age and starts to talk to him and says" avenger of the Dead and protector of the living we asked for your help to find our Prince and bring him back "
When Bruce returned home he did not know what he should have expected. Alfred had contacted him a day earlier. Insisting that he needed to finish up the case with the Justice League as soon as possible to return and giving him a rather strange warning.
Apparently there was a new family member Damian had failed to tell them about. The butler did not leave a lot or room for discussion about who or what Damian failed to tell them so Bruce did all he could and made it back before lunch.
Bruce had assumed that his youngest had once again smuggled in an animal that was there to stay but that did not explain the butler's insistence of him coming home as soon as possible. So color him surprised when he stood in the doorframe of the sitting room that became the main hang out room for the family and two of his children were currently holding a screaming match about whether or not the older of the two was part of a cult. Tim was even threatening Jason with some sort of book he had gotten via express mail looking ready to hit his second oldest across the face with it.
"Just admit that you are or were a part of a ghost cult!"
"The fuck you talking about replacement?! I have never been in a ghost cult!"
"Bullshit! The sigels in this book say otherwise!"
"What fucking sigels you asshole!"
"The ones in this book!"
"Wave that any close to my face and I will punch you!"
Looking toward the couch he found his oldest sitting next to his youngest holding out sweets and treats to a child Damian was keeping in his lap in a rather protective hold. The child, a little boy that didn't look older than seven or eight, was wearing an oversized hoodie he recognised as one of Damians. The boy did not appear really happy with his situation as the child kept hissing at his oldest and snapping his teeth. Damian scowled at Dick clearly also not happy with what he assumed were his elder son's attempts at getting the child to not hiss at him.
"Richard, I am warning you."
"Come on little teethling! How about this chocolate? Or do you like baked goods better?"
"Richard."
"Just one pat without biting Dami, please! He is not hissing as much as he did earlier! Should I juggle the cakes?"
"Danyal, how about we leave these idiots?" The child didn't even look up at his youngest but kept hissing at Dick who kept offering small cakes to the child.
He cleared his throat, gaining the attention of his children, just as Damian was about to get up and leave with the boy. It was interesting seeing them blink at him this owlishly whenever he joined them when they least expected his appearance. "Someone wants to explain to me why Damian has a child with him?"
"This child is Danyal." Damian stated, looking down at the boy whose eyes were now focused on him. They were a glowing sky blue and Bruce couldn't help but think that his son might have picked up a little Meta child he wanted to take care of.
He hm-ed stepping into the room and closer to his children. Noting how the child in his son's arms tensed, pupils blown wide. The kid was on high alert. Now that he also took a closer look at the small boy he noticed that he had similarities to Damian, was that the reason the kid seemed to have latched onto his youngest?
"A Meta?" He questioned as he slowly moved towards the clearly tense child. Considering all his sons being around, the child might be a rescue and with the way the little one watched his every move as the newcomer, possibly abused too. He would need the report from his sons to get a better understanding of the boy's circumstances.
"Not exactly…" Tim started and he looked over at his third eldest. He was hesitating with his explanation, why? Was there something else amiss with the child?
"B maybe you should wait and sit down over there. This will be a lot to take in." Dick added his eyes worriedly going to the child that had become strangely quiet and back to him. Bruce only hm-ed again, Dick was good with children but from what he had seen this child wasn't trusting his eldest.
Maybe he should give it a try? So he crouched before Damian and the boy putting on the friendliest face he could muster. If this child was an abused meta case then the boy was surely scared, he could see it clearly now in the boy's eyes. The likelihood that he had probably latched onto his youngest because of their similarities for safety was now even more apparent.
"Hel-" He couldn't even finish his greeting before the child's eyes took on a glowing green color.
"Danyal!"
Suddenly the boy slipped out of Damian's hold and in what looked close to flying flipped over the couch onto his second oldest shoulders, using them as springboard to get onto one of the high shelves of the sitting room. Drawing back into the ceiling corner and making himself as small as possible. The entire time the child's glowing green eyes were on Bruce and his stomach sank at the familiarity of that color. His eyes, only for a split second, went over to Jason who glared at him, placing himself between Bruce and the shelve the boy jumped on.
"Father! What did you do?"
"I was only attempting to greet that child on eye-level so as not to further scare him."
"Yea sure." His second oldest scoffed. "You didn't want to judge if the kid was a dangerous unknown?"
"Jason."
"No Dick. The kid is fine with us, though still hissing and bitey but that was not a normal reaction. If I had to guess, the kid's Pit must have reacted to something with Bruce. The Biter stopped hissing the moment he noticed him. Look at the kids' eyes and tell me that's not true."
His eldest did look conflicted as his eyes went over to the kid on the high shelf silently staring down at them before looking back at him still crouching by the couch where he really had only attempted to greet the small child that had been in Damian's arms.
Standing up Bruce looked straight at his second oldest while still keeping the boy in his field of vision. "The child's Pit?"
Dick sighed covering his eyes with his right hand for a moment before looking back up at him again with determination. "That's why I wanted you to sit down and listen to us first. Danny is showing symptoms of being influenced by Lazarus Water. In addition Tim found that he not only has it in his system and blood but also influencing his DNA."
Bruce couldn't help his as his eyes narrowed at what his eldest son was saying. "The child, Danny you said, is like Jason?"
"Possible worse." Tim replied this time. "The way the Lazarus water influenced his DNA had nearly made it impossible to test it when we tried to see if Danny was a clone. I had to split and isolate it from his DNA to get clear results."
"A clone?"
Tim arched his eyebrow at Bruce judgingly. "You must have noticed how much he looks like Damian. We first thought the child was a Clone but turns out that's not the case. He-"
"Congratulations you have another supposedly dead son Talia revived via Lazarus Pit." Jason cut rudely not once looking away from Bruce as he waited for the man's reaction.
"JASON!"
"Just rip the bandaid off. Better to get his negative reaction out of the way now than later."
"That's not what I mean and you know it!"
"What…?" He barely said it loud enough for his children to hear. To say Bruce's brain short circuit was an understatement as the words supposedly dead son registered.
Dick sighted and Bruce felt his eldest son placing his hand on his shoulder but all Bruce could do was turn to look at where the child was still high up on the shelf staring at him and looking like he wanted to merge into the shadows of the ceiling corner while Damian tried to coax the child down again.
"Damian told us that Danny is his twin that had died eight years ago. We don't know yet why he is here nor how but Dami, who was the most convinced that Danny was a clone at first, is now insisting that this child is his revived brother. And we believe him, everything we found so far points to that conclusion too."
Bruce barely heard Dicks explanation over his own heart beat as he watched Damian and Danny. All he could think about was that he had failed another child. The child who was supposed to be Damians age had died too young and only to get revived eight years later? Why hadn't Damian told him anything about his brother? Why did the revived child need to appear for him to learn about his existence?
All but one of his sons' attention turned to the child on the shelf as now three of them tried to get the chil- no. Danny, Damian's twin who had died at the age of eight and had now been revived and had been kept a secret from him by his own son too, down from there.
"Danyal come down please. Father does not mean any harm."
"Great Bruce scared the little biter so much that he acts like a scared cat again."
"Just be happy he didn't instantly go to bite Bruce."
"I would have actually liked to see that happening."
"Would you imbecile shut up. Danyal, would a snack from Alfred help calm you down?"
"If Dickie didn't get him to stop hissing with treats why would he come down from up there for one?"
"Hey Jason, hold your arm up please?"
"The fuck you want replacement?"
"We are not using Todd as bait."
"Worth a shot."
"Fuck off, how about you hold your arm up."
"You're taller than me and have more reach."
"Oh now you're fine admitting you're short?"
"Shut up. Neither of you will be used as bait. Who knows what diseases either of you carry."
""HEY""
Turning around and wordlessly leaving the room Bruce decided he needed to find a way to contact Talia. He needed answers and that as soon as possible. He could not face Danny like this and his children seemed to have the situation handled for now.
As the man stormed out of the room, he did not notice the worried or judging side eyes of his children. Nor the green eyes that had never once stopped watching him as they turned blue appearing more confused than when they had been green. Jason on the other hand had noticed the change and couldn't help but wonder why the little biters Pit reacted this strongly towards Bruce when his own had been surprisingly quiet for the last couple of hours.

Meanwhile Illinois in a small hidden town…
"What do you mean template isn't here anymore?!"
"He disappeared. They say he died but I can't believe it. I don't believe it."
"You better! If he died the entire ghost zone would have rioted!"
"What?"
"Hello? Ghost King?"
"Right… But how do we find him?"
"Maybe we can track his ecto-signature?"
"We have to give it a shot. We need to find him before the GIW do."
Okay, so we know that Danny gets injured and his parents are criminally neglectful at the best of times which lead them to not noticing said injuries. So we have the Bats noticing and being like, "ARE YOU OKAY?!! dO yOu WaNt To Be AdOpTeD??" The usual trope.
But, but, but (yes I'm referencing Heathers, fuck off)
While Danny tends to be as unobservant as his parents most of the time, he does pay close attention to his friends and would notice if they're injured or in a bad place emotionally.
So, (insert Bat here, except for Cass because my girl is a badass and I feel like she'd rarely get injured from fights. Just my opinion) notices that Danny has Lichtenberg scar/bruises/bandages underneath his clothes and then Danny pulls an Uno reverse and points out their injuries hidden by make-up/underneath their clothes/casts, etc.
Now cue Danny and the Bat of choice are trying to get the other to confess to being abused by their respective parents when in reality it just comes from their vigilante lives. Though it does eventually come to light about what's happening and I feel like Danny is going to get adopted. If you want this to be platonic or shippy is also the choice of the author.
